Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The staff here are the best. Each of them were exceptional and that made our stay so enjoyable. The bar manager even organised a screen for us to watch the tennis which was totally beyond our expectations. The rooms are lovely and feel luxurious even if they are a bit dated. The location is convenient. I’m looking forward to staying again.

We recently stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel Rialto in Melbourne for three nights through a Qantas Hotel deal, which included breakfast, access to their club, and a cocktail at the bar. Arriving at the hotel was easy because it was just a 10-minute walk to roll our luggage from the Skybus Terminal at Flinders Street Station. During our stay, we quickly became adept at navigating the free tram zone, utilising a tram stop a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel is located very well. The hotel itself has a unique blend of old and new, offering a distinct and memorable atmosphere that really grew on us. The staff were consistently welcoming and professional. We initially intended to use the complimentary pressing service on the day of check-in for a business meeting the following day. However, we were informed that the items needed to be submitted first thing in the morning and would be returned the next afternoon, which posed a challenge for our timeline. Although we inquired about expediting the process, unfortunately, we never received a follow-up. Luckily, the iron in the room proved to be a suitable alternative. While some reviewers have praised the exceptionally comfortable beds, our experience differed. While the linens are top quality, the spongy mattress, coupled with a thick, lumpy feather topper, was too soft for our liking. Requesting the removal of the topper from the second night significantly improved the bed's comfort for the remainder of our stay. The room itself boasted practical features such as a good desk, excellent blackout curtains, effective air conditioning, and reliable hot water with good pressure in the shower. The provided toiletries—shampoo, conditioner, body gel, and moisturizer—were of high quality. On the downside, the Wi-Fi was somewhat patchy, requiring us to resort to hotspotting for reliable internet during Zoom meetings. Additionally, the small TV lacked streaming services and easy casting capabilities, prompting us to rediscover the joy of using our Kindles. The standout highlight of our stay was the Club and its staff. While we only had breakfast at the Club once, opting for the buffet instead, we thoroughly enjoyed the Club's afternoon tea, cocktails and canapés in the evenings. The club staff were friendly, proactive, and quick to top up our drinks, enhancing our overall experience. Speaking of breakfast, the buffet was a real treat. Our soy lattes at the breakfast buffet were particularly well made, and we appreciated the fresh juicing station where we could choose which fruit and vegetables to juice up. The positive aspects of our stay, especially the exceptional club experience, left us with a positive impression of the Intercontinental Hotel Rialto in Melbourne. If another 'Club' deal turned up, we would definitely stay here again.

Room amenities really let this place down (see below) , the only saving grace for giving 3 instead of 1 was the fantastic staff: check-in, door and bar were great. The hotel is in a great location with easy walking to any part of Melbourne CBD and Southbank Issues: - The coffee machine did not work correctly. - The air conditioner would always reset to 20.0c - When turning on the shower, we would turn on the 'hot' only and it still took up to 90secs for hot water to come through (this was an incredible amount of water being wasted as well as frustrating) - The IHG Rewards internet would not connect (I have had no issues in any of the many other IHG places I have stayed). - TV streaming did not work.

I spent six nights at the Intercontinental Rialto and I loved it. I chose to have a standard King , maybe next time I will consider the Club Intercontinental as it seemed to be a good deal. Breakfast was amazing; fantastic selection on offer including a make your own juice station! Breakfast is $35 if you don't have it as part of the deal, considering what you will pay in cafes nearby it is worth it. Make a meal out if it, perhaps skip lunch. The standard room was a good size. Excellent staff.

My recent stay at Intercontinental Melbourne The Rialto was truly memorable. As an Ambassador member, I appreciated being assigned to the Ambassador floor. The location is excellent, situated on the historic Collins St and just minutes away from tram stops. It's a leisurely 12-15 minute walk to Flinders St Station. The concierge service deserves special mention; they not only fulfilled my request to book a musical ticket but also managed to secure it at a lower price! While the breakfast selection was just okay, the overall experience was enjoyable. The room, though slightly dated, was exceptionally well-maintained. My king bed, comprised of two singles, had a noticeable partition in the middle, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. The luxurious beddings made up for this minor inconvenience. I look forward to staying here again.

We thought would try this hotel as IHG have given us a status match to My Hilton Diamond. Well what a poor excuse compared to Hilton properties. the room is old and outdated, and this was an upgrade to a club level room. however I am still stunned that the upgrade did not include club lounge access, even though it says on the app that club lounge access is included! I have always been given executive lounge access when upgraded with Hilton. Anyway avoid this hotel aircon does not work properly room was always hot even on the lowest setting and the room is old. For the same price there are much better properties. If IHG want to encourage high frequency guests to be loyal they are not going about it all wrong

The Intercon in Melbourne is a great hotel. The staff super friendly and efficient. The club lounge is very nice and the food avaliable excellent. The Junior Suite I stayed in must have been nice 10 years ago. The room needs to be updated and renewed. The room layout is strange, when using the sofa you can not watch TV - you can watch TV from the bed. The very small TV is fixed and can not be turned to a better viewing position. Bathroom was worn out. Damage in the bathtube, toilet seat did not fit the toilet. Water pressure low.

Dear michaelgB4441DX, Thank you for selecting our InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto while visiting Melbourne and for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience. It's a pleasure having you as our guest. I am truly sorry you did not experience an exemplary stay due to our room as well as our bathroom needing an update. This is certainly below our usual high standard of service. Please be certain that I have noted and forwarded your feedback for the management to improve. In the middle of your experience, I am glad to know that the service of our staff and our club lounge was still appreciated. I very much hope you will grant us the opportunity to prove ourselves again. Best Regards, Ben W. Case Manager IHG Hotels and Resorts Service

We stayed in Melbourne with my wife and daughter for 2 nights over a weekend. Booked a suite and was upgraded to a bigger suite as per my IHG status. Good bits: * Excellent staff, * location * Nice intercon lounge for breakfast, Afternoon tea et cocktail, * Room 602 had a spacious living room and courtyard with an outdoor table! Less good bits: * No room key needed to access all floors of the hotel!, * Room service very poor after 23.00. Small selection of less than 10 dishes and not even Club Sandwich offered. Really for a 5 stars Hotels on Saturday Night? Fairly sure the ParkHyatt or the Westin offer a more extensive selection of room service. * We had a rollaway bed in our room for our daughter however no spare cups (2) no spare glasses (2), no spare bathrobe. * The living room room 602 is very dark, with additional lighting badly required... * The sofa in the living room is too low. * Over the weekend, it would be great if the lounge had a few newspapers available for the guests
