We have been to Melbourne many times before but this was the first time we had stayed at The Ibis Styles Kingsgate. The hotel is an old building but with little original character except for maybe the dining/lounge area the corridors are factory like. The room was OK but could use an update, the bed was very comfortable and being...

Firstly, the location of this hotel is great, walking distance ( 5 mins) to Southern Cross rail with a Coles inside, and on the junction of King/ Bourke, so 10 mins to the shopping area, and Chinatown. Across the road there is a 7/11, Pizza, Subway, Nando's. The hotel itself is an older character building, so is one Accor has...

I stayed at the Ibis Styles Kingsgate during a recent trip with 4 other friends. We booked 2 rooms, a double and a triple. The hotel is an older building, but has recently been spruced up, especially the lobby area. The staff was very welcoming and helpful the entire time. Our rooms were located next to each other, and the...

Stayed here for one night.. I suppose it isnt too bad for the price you pay! Pretty basic and very small rooms. Felt alittle like we were staying in a hostel. The bed was so small very uncomfortable, squeaked with every move you made. They definately have to upgrade their beds.. Other than that its in a great location! There...

We stayed here as a stopover on our way to Warrnambool. Got to Melbourne city close to midnight after flying in to Melbourne's Tullamarine airport. Stayed in a comfortable clean bed, the room was extremely basic but suited us perfectly as we were up and out of there before 7am to catch a train. I wouldn't recommend it for any...

Let me start with the positives. The location is absolutely great. A good start for any trip into the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful. This being said, the room was not what you would expect from a hotel. Very small, no space to put your suitcase and a bed that I had to sleep diagonally in because...

What hotel room these days does not have individual bed lights ? answer this one makes it difficult when sharing a room with two other people and they want to sleep and you want to read. Noisy on a Saturday night.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
