Nestled in the heart of Melbourne, the Grand Hyatt Melbourne receives acclaim for its sophisticated public areas and prime location, perfect for those eager to explore the city's offerings. However, opinions on service and value are split; some guests commend the friendly staff, while others are frustrated by slow service and question the hotel's value, citing overpriced features and a need for room renovations.
Despite the praise for its cleanliness and amenities, there are calls for modernization of facilities and rooms to truly reflect the grandiosity promised.

Detailed Reviews
We had a 2 night getaway just after xmas. Have stayed here before many years ago and we got a good deal. We booked a Club King Room. Our view was of Collins & Russell Streets which you could hear no outside noise. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and pillows. A couch , round table & chair, desk with outlets for your computer & mobile for charging. The bathroom had a large deep bath, good size shower with decent water pressure, shaving mirror and vanity.
The club access is naturally more expensive, but we love it. I did see 1 review where the guests had to self serve tea/coffee & soft drinks. This is only due to Covid. Covid has changed the way hotels have to operate, so please give them some slack, there is no rule book for this. Evening canapes are served, but if you want more, that is not a problem, you can go and help yourself. Drinks of wine, beer, sparkling, soft drink, juices and always being topped up by the friendly staff.
Breakfast is also served in the restaurant, known as Collins Kitchen. A full buffet, everything your heart desires plus some.
The hallways of the hotel were quiet and we very rarely ran into other guests. Because of Covid, it was hotel policy to wear your mask in the public areas of the hotel. Most guests did this, but there are always some that don't follow the rules. I did notice no staff acted on this policy.
The hotel is in a great location, close to all shopping, a train stop on Collins street, a 2 minute walk from the hotel, Flinders Street Station (train), about a 10 minute walk. I would recommend staying at this hotel.

We had a lovely stay at the hotel, we downloaded the Hyatt app and booked through it and got a very competitive rate.
The hotel delivers a 5 star stay without resorting to St Regis or Four Seasons prices and it’s right on the button location wise on Collins Street near everything you might need.
The staff are very professional and when we checked in Jennifer was very patient with us and happy to get a map and show us where the sites and shops were, nothing was too much trouble.
The concierge were just as friendly and helpful when we got speaking with those gentlemen, one of them insisted on walking us to a destination whilst it was raining.
We had a high up room with a view over the river, gardens and the stadiums, fantastic recommendation by the hotel.
Of course this is a big busy central Melbourne hotel popular with international tourists but nothing is too much trouble for them and they make you feel very special so much so when we reported that a previous guest had eaten the pringles and resealed the carton they immediately sent up a complimentary pack, very kind and sweet of them to do that.
Will definitely stay again and the app really worked.

Enjoyed a visit to the AO.
Overall rooms were adequate. Slightly dated. Lounge was good however apparently they allow folks ordering in food with some very poor smelling food.
As a globalist / diamond for the past 7 years was not super impressed. The upgrade was limited likely to the AO but both rooms were more or less standard.
Last few nights in the lounge had the same crew of folks who didn’t meet dress code ordering food in making an ad-hoc buffet during evening service which is incredibly distasteful
Staff was unwilling to do anything as they ate poorly smelly food and interrupted service. Overall leaving a poor taste in our mouth for this property. Likely will stick to the park Hyatt although we much like the location due to the incredible lack of taste allowed in this setting.

I’ve enjoyed staying at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne many times. Despite this, my most recent stay on Saturday 12th December was disappointing with one error following another.
Only 1 robe was supplied
Only 1 toothbrush was supplied
Room service dinner was ordered and my pizza arrived as a margherita with no topping as I had ordered.
Room service was again ordered for breakfast - it didn’t arrive until 2 hours later with no update provided. I called through for an update at the 1.5 hour mark and was told it would be another 30 minutes. No apology was given.
I attempted to call the front desk to extend our checkout time as when breakfast arrived we only had 20 minutes to eat it. No answer. No call back.
I ordered room service a total of 3 times, every time no one answered the first call and multiple calls had to be made.
When I mentioned the breakfast wait upon checkout I was provided a 50% discount off the cost of the meal which I didn’t really think was adequate.
I’ve always had excellent experiences at the Grand Hyatt and stay with them when traveling internationally, however this experience did rather put a dampener on my first post Covid 19 stay and was quite disheartening.

Terrible very disappointed even though I am a member it was incredibly frustrating to have a long drive only to be not able to get to bed because the sheets are dirty I asked for firm pillows when booking and again at check in then I still had to call house keeping only to be told that they have none left even though I asked 2 weeks on my membership booking I state it this. I booked for myself and my husband would be nice to have 2 of everything in the room i.e toothbrush and bodywash,
the carpet was very dirty both inside and out side our room. I really considering to check out and go elsewhere in the morning I can't handle when you try and be loyal to one hotel chain and they really don't give a rats tail to be nice about the fact you are a returned customer its a waste of time and money don't bother with membership. One very unhappy customer

+1
We stayed at the Hyatt on NYE, expecting a night of luxury, during which we would order room service and watch the fireworks from our room. Despite requesting a high floor and a good view of the fireworks, we were given a 10th floor room (the lowest room level) with a view of a concrete rooftop, not the river view that the check in staff had shown us. They did their best to move us, and finally found us a room on the 15th floor with a reasonable view, but told us housekeeping were just finishing cleaning the room, so there would be a short wait. This was at 2:30pm. We had a drink in the lobby while we waited, and were given warm beer. Still no room. Starving, we went to Southbank and got some lunch, returning 3 hours later. Finally got into our room, only to discover the ceiling above the shower was covered in black mould, there was a huge stain on the ottoman, dribbles on the couch, a sanitary napkin wrapper in the middle of the bathroom floor, a rollaway bed that we had not ordered taking up most of the space, for which one of the two chairs had been removed, the kettle would not turn of once it had boiled, and the sugar supplies had not been restocked. It took another 3 hours after advising the bellboy for someone to ring about the rollaway, by which time we had moved it into the corridor.
Needless to say, this was not the night of luxury we had planned. This room was tired and dirty, and housekeeping are simply not doing their job, resulting in an unsafe room which should be taken out of service until it is fixed. This room was a deluxe king, not the cheapest, and cost over $500. My advice would be to save your money and go to one of the excellent true five star hotels in Melbourne, such as the Langham.

My friend and I had a girl’s catch up and stayed a night in town at the Hyatt in a twin room with stunning views through a large picture window. The updated modern room was beautifully appointed and included a large marble bathroom with both a bath and a walk in shower.
We ate in the restaurant for lunch on the day of arrival and breakfast the next day, both of which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The hotel is well located up the Paris end of Collins street surrounded by great restaurants, theatres and shopping within a short walk. The tram (free within the CBD) runs straight past the hotel door if you want to save your feet.
We self parked underneath the hotel entering at 1pm and leaving around 4pm the next day for $20 due to public holiday rates ($10 each day) otherwise valet parking was available for $80. Our stay was wonderful and our experience exceeded that which I had recently encountered at 2 other nearby 5 star hotels. I will definitely return to the Grand Hyatt and I would definitely recommend the hotel to others.

We loved the stately hotel with staff to help your every need. The rooms are a bit dated in a humid climate but the room and especially the bathroom was spotless. The staff recommended great restaurants and tours. We especially appreciated the helpful concierge. The breakfast is incredible with lots of variety and good food. They serve a high tea which was lovely. From the doormen to the breakfast staff, all were there to meet your needs without hovering. I wish we could have stayed longer.

This was the fist time I had stayed at the Grand Hyatt and wasn't sure what to expect. I was more than pleasantly surprised. The staff were very helpful, including Ryan in the Collins Kitchen who helped me choose the perfect wine to accompany my meal, the rooms were spotless and buffet breakfast was comprehensive and delicious.
The location, at the East end of Melbourne CBD, was very central to most of the food venues and shopping, not that I had time for either. A great conference facility that suited my company's needs perfectly.

If you are Hyatt Club member, re-evaluate if you really are getting value and benefits for your loyalty. We are currently staying at the GHH Melbourne and it is like being trapped in an ongoing nightmare! If we were able to do so, we would change hotels, but with it being Xmas it is near impossible.
One of the problems for us which has impacted directly on our stay has been the misrepresentation about the availability of club lounge facilities. When we booked there was no indication the lounge was closed. And, there was certainly no transparency about this at check-in. We only discovered this after making enquiries. And, any genuine apology, let alone small compensation for this inconvenience is resisted by the hotel management with tooth and nail!
The hotel management claim the suite price has been reduced to reflect that there is no Club longe facilities. At some $750 average a night for just the room, we would beg to differ. And, as to value, we have had to chase down every, single basic service: We have had to ask repeatedly for our room to be made up (still waiting for the pink mould to be cleaned from the bathroom sink), for nightly turn down; plus no replenishment or bottled water or coffee pods, tissues etc, etc. If these were one off incidents you’d probably let it go, but this is prevalent, not to mention tiring for us!
The only consistency has been the lack of care and disrespect from the front office management. What should be a lovely break for us has become has just been incredibly stressful. And while we have raised these issues with the hotel it is plain they are only interested in their bottom line, not their guests.
No doubt there will be a formulaic response from the hotel to this review. But, we can only strongly suggest people consider what level of service they are prepared to put up with when paying top dollar, given there are plenty of other hotels still offering
full member facilities for guests, not to mention a much, much better level of care and servicing.

$60 for valet parking per night.
I believe it's available all year round.
I have no idea if they charge for a rollaway bed or even offer this. Unless you have an upgraded room, there may not be enough space.
