Let me start by saying the Grand Hyatt is a first class hotel well located, friendly staff and excellent facilities. However the hotel has been let down by their backroom. I stayed two nights in October and checked out 29th October. I paid in advance with an EFTPOS card attached to a cheque account. This included $300 deposit for incidentals. When I checked out I was told all was good and the deposit would be refunded to my card in the next day or so. The following day I was contacted by the hotel saying there was difficulty refunding because of the card being an EFTPOS . After emails back and forwards it was agreed to deposit direct to my cheque account. This would take 2 to 3 weeks which I thought was a bit odd but accepted it. We are now in December and into 6 weeks with the only contact being an email on 18th November stating the finance team will send it soon. I'm at a loss to think how difficult is it to complete an internet deposit. I know the amount is not significantly large but the lack of respect shown has left a bad taste. I realise I am not a large corporate account but have stayed with them 6 times in the last 12 months and have enjoyed the experience. I am disappointed that I felt the need to stay elsewhere on my November and upcoming December visits.…

Getting old and tired, hotel desperately needs updating. Pillows ridiculously soft, should have had firmer options. Health club was unkept and not particularly hygienic. Staff were obviously disinterested. Collins kitchen used to be much better but menu is very limited now.

We are on vacation. Having stayed in another 5* hotel a week ago in Melbourne and left for Sydney before we returned to Melbourne and stay in this so called 5* hotel. What a world of difference between the two!! The issues :- EXTRA BED 2 weeks before arrival I had already reserved a rollaway bed. Upon arrival(5:40pm)I had again reminded the front desk to set up while we are away for dinner. I was assured that it will be done. When we got back at 10:30pm, there is no rollaway until my call. ROOM AMENITIES a) chip furniture. Was afraid that hotel might make me responsible for the chip, I instantly took a photo upon check-in b)We have 3 pax. Only given 1 bottle of water. c)No Toiletries. We have to request. d)Notice the bottle of Body wash was less than half-full upon check-in. It wasn’t fill up the next day during housekeeping. We again need to request. e)No matter how low you set the Aircon, it will remain at 22C by default. The room was stuffy!! DEPRIVED OF SLEEP The sound proofing was so poor that our 3 nights almost went bonkers. Whenever our “neighbors “ unit turn on the taps we will be woken up in the wee hours. The sound of water flows was vividly audible and loud. Next day we were thinking to change room but we had already unpacked all our stuffs and the other rooms may be the same since the sound proofing was an issue, we relented and tolerated. Being on vacation, sleep is utmost importance to us. It has undoubtedly ruin our last part of our vacation in Australia otherwise it would have been a perfect one. Never do we ever expect a standard of a 5* hotel Nevertheless, the staff are friendly and helpful. It has a huge and useful gym. The location is ideal. Do not think we will be back. For the same price there are many better choices.…
