the hotel is looking a bit tired but is being renovated so should improve. One of the lifts were not working as it was being upgraded which meant that getting from your room to ground floor at checkout time took a little bit longer but it wasnt too bad. We were otified about this whe we booked so were expecting...

This hotel is right in the centre of the shopping district and restaurant mecca of china town. It is nicely appointed and great value for money. The bufet breakfast was well presented with plenty of choice, and meals are well priced for evening dining in the restaurant. the cocktail lounge was especially good value, with daily $10 cocktails and a...

Clean hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. Very good service. Great location right in the centre of the city. It was a bit hard to find at first because of works in Little Bourke St. Good facilities but getting a bit tired. Delicious buffet breakfast. Will definitely stay here again.

From the moment my Friends & I walked into this hotel,we were given first class service, the rooms are small, but clean, and we only slept in our room as we were out & about. Stayed there for 3 nights. Great service and room was good. Hotel is in the heart of the city so its easy to walk to most of the inner city sights. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful Would stay there again.

The first was so small I had to put the case on the bed to unpack. The room was very noisey. Next to building site. One lift not working due to upgrading. The second room was better but still of a poor standard compared with other Mercure Hotels. On the Saturday I had to wait 20 minutes for the lift....

We found the reception staff friendly and helpful. The room though small was comfortable and clean. The Cocktail lounge was pleasant and provided a variety of light snacks and drinks at reasonable prices. Breakfast in the restraurant was very good and again reasonably priced. Location was fine for access to Theatres and central shopping area.

The Hotel is in a wonderful central site with access to all major shops and transport. The rooms are sparse, with no art on the walls and the dust and rubbish behind the TV was not so great. The bed was very soft, warm and had great pillows. All i all good value for money in the central city

Room is too small for two people. Bathroom kits are less than other Mercure (I stayed in Mercue Potts Point in Sydney before heading to Melbourne). These weaknesses are outweighed by its superb location as it is adjacent to Chinatown, shopping center, and city circle tram.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
