The Room was smaller than we thought and only one elevator was working which meant staying on the 8th floor meant a workout at times. The staff were really great just looking at the window saw a wall. It was a budget room which wasn't quite what we were expecting. Would have been happy to pay more for a better...

Location was great. However moments after checking in realised one lift was out of order and only one was working for the entire hotel. Took 10 minutes (or longer) each time we wanted to go up or down. Fire stairs were open however were not suitable when we had our luggage in tow. Our room was on the second story...

I have just experienced, for the second time, a very happy 5 day stay at the Mercure Welcome in Little Burke Street, Melbourne. Staff were always very helpful and friendly, the room was well ventilated and warm (May visit), and clean, and I was delighted to have a bath, as well as shower in the ensuite. No outside noise, considering...

Great location!! A little noisy at times, walls must be thin and you can hear pipes from bathroom but being so central we were hardly in our room so it didn't really matter! It has a nice little bar downstairs. Very accommodating for all ages with great service. Initial point of contact at reception was very helpful although a little...

Upon checking in had to walk 9 flights of stairs to our room. One lift out of order being serviced (had been like that for a few days according to other reviews on here). Second lift stuck on floor 7. Decided couldn't be bothered waiting any longer after 15mins. At 1.22am Wednesday monring was woken by the next door neighbours...

I've stayed several times at this hotel and will do so again. The rooms are usually small but the price is right, the beds are very comfortable and the location on the cnr of Swanston and Little Bourke Sts is fantastic. The rooms are modern and clean. The staff are excellent. This time I booked a "suite", the larger room...

Hotel was in a good location, right in the city and the staff were friendly enough, however the room was terrible. The carpet was stained very badly, the sink in the bathroom was peeling and cracking and the shower leaked. Was also disappointed in the lack of power points - there was a desk, but the powerpoint was on the...

Hotel is great value. Building is a bit tired but undergoing renovation. Rooms are small but that is no problem. Air con tends to spread a bit of dust and fluff around that sticks to the ceiling. Sleep was terrific, service for all we needed was great and it suited our needs perfectly. Great location and very satisfactory visit.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
