Hotel was in a good location, right in the city and the staff were friendly enough, however the room was terrible. The carpet was stained very badly, the sink in the bathroom was peeling and cracking and the shower leaked. Was also disappointed in the lack of power points - there was a desk, but the powerpoint was on the...

I arrived at the Hotel with a booking of which i had thought was for the Saturday night but i made an error and booked for Sunday night, this was my mistake Assistant Manager Hakim Khan was helpful beyond what I would normally expect. Hakim took charge of the issue, work out even though the hotel was nearly fully booked...

Hotel is great value. Building is a bit tired but undergoing renovation. Rooms are small but that is no problem. Air con tends to spread a bit of dust and fluff around that sticks to the ceiling. Sleep was terrific, service for all we needed was great and it suited our needs perfectly. Great location and very satisfactory visit.

Location and price make the Mercure Welcome Melbourne great value. One lift out of service made access really slow, especially at peak times. Concierge extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Rest of staff very courteous.

Mercure in Accor hotel chain is ahead of the IBIS budget range. Somehow, this Mercure in Melbourne, Australia reminded me so much of the Mercure in Auckland, New Zealand. Both of them are located at prime spots in CBDs and yet, it's timely for them to have a revamp. However, that's easily said than done because hotels of such calibre...

Room was not identical as seen on website. This hotel should be a Ibis....maybe. I have seen and stayed at a few Mercure hotels and this did not match their usual standard. I do not understand how a chain can allow a brand not to be standard.

This is one of the best located hotels in melbourne. It is central to all the shopping and eating areas. I was greeted by the lovely Anna (I believe) who pleasantly upgraded me. The room was large and clean. I would most certainly stay there again I highly recommend Gopels Hari Krishna resturant for a wholesome Vegetarian Dinner. Followed by...

We go to melbourne every year and have stayed at the Mercure Welcome for the past 3 years the main reason is because it is so very central. We have always found it very comfortable and will stay there again. There is a lot of building going on at the front of the hotel so just in case it is...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
