Mercure Welcome Melbourne is centrally located, garnering appreciation for its convenience to shopping and attractions. However, the hotel's accommodations have been called out for being small and noisy, with cleanliness and decor leaving guests wanting. While some reviewers praise the friendly service and affordable breakfast, others are disappointed by slow check-ins and room service inconsistencies.
The amenities are generally satisfactory, but the overall value is questioned due to the rooms' conditions and atmosphere, which is often described as uninviting. Cleanliness receives mixed opinions, highlighting an uneven experience.

There were a lot of people at check in when we arrived (mid afternoon) .. i thought that doing the 'pre-check in online’ would mean we could grab our key and go (as thats what it states on the email received) but this was not the case, it took about 20 mins to check in.
We didnt get wifi password at check in, nor were we told what time was breakfast, minor details, but noteable, as i had to go down to reception to ask - i called both reception and guest services and no one answered.
All the staff were very friendly.
the room we had was small and ok, it was not the cleanest, there was a bit of mould in the grouting in the bathroom, and the floor gets super wet when showering, we didnt have a dry bath mat or towel to put down each day due to non service of rooms
the bed is quite hard and the pillows quite flat.
the rooms are not serviced, which was explained at check in, however when i asked for a clean bath mat, i was told the cleaning staff had gone home for the day. our towels also did not dry in the room, so we had damp towels each morning.
there was also a lot of sand in our room, in our bed and in the bathroom.
the breakfast was quite good.
overall it was fine, and i am only noting these things as minor points. We would happily stay here again.

Stayed here for 4 nights and was very hard to fault. If anything this is 4 and not 5 stars because we only got 2 towels in our room so had to keep reusing the same ones and the hotel charges a service fee on credit card if that's how you want to pay. The hotel is very centrally located with walking distance of just about everything including casino, MCG and Lygon Street. It has trams one block away which take you all around the city. It is also close to a lot of the nightlife areas. We opted to get 2x $25 hotel credit instead of getting our room cleaned but you can opt for extra Accor points or having your room cleaned if that's what you desire.

This hotel is in a perfect location, next to Emporium, surrounded by endless options for food and shopping. Reasonable price, helpful front desk staff, however the room we stayed in seemed dingy, outdated , had waterpipes across the ceiling. The rooms didn't seem to be soundproofed either which made my experience just average.

Location and staff are top tier. Actual assigned rooms are the poor cousins of the Mercure brand.
Do not book for romantic intentions unless you're booking rooms on higher floors where your view is not concrete walls.
Room 633 and 634 are interconnected. They are dark, small "queen" rooms. Room 524 is also a queen room significantly bigger than the rooms on level 6.
I recommend requesting an interior room, positioning of 524, and avoiding exterior positioning such as 633 and 634.
Linen and gentle scented toiletries make up for the underwhelming rooms. The bathroom is 1 small person appropriate, and the shower cubicle is the same.
The aircon is noisy at a high setting and only slightly better in the lowest setting.
The foyer is small and extremely busy at checkout times. There are two lifts, they are also small so either take your belongings down earlier and ask reception if you can leave near their desk or make appropriate arrangements to avoid waits for lifts.
There are two online checkin facilities to avoid queuing for reception.
Breakfast is affordable and located on level 1 and offers dhal and fried rice as well as standard continental breakfast. It's bright, and seating is well spaced with great street view.

Location perfect and very affordable for an experience of China town colour & atmosphere and array of restaurants within Melbournes China town , Tip: opt for parking a few blocks away at Wilson 180 Russell st Tip 2 : Ensure you validated your parking at the Hotel & receive your original parking card to scan not just the receipt style shopper docket as you wont get past the exit boom gates unless you have a very understanding intercom Wilson staff member on the other end which I did Tip for hotel : , if your going to place 1 of the 2 elevators out of service for maintenance, At least a heads up , sms , email to guests and not find a customer and luggage jam in the one elevator at 8am on a Monday , a blanket sms or email to allow luggage to be taken down early and not be limited to 4 or 5 people at best with luggage , all 12 levels in the one lift with luggage , 30 mins for my wife to get down as I opted the fire stairs as did others however found the door locked behind us , luckily found an Exit taking us kit to street next to Pullman hotel , With that being said the staff were fantastic to try and accomodate for something out of their control , 3rd Tip : customers relax don’t take your holiday frustrations delays out on front counter staff doing their best . Would I stay again ? Definitely, sure the rooms & bath rooms are a little tired however for $153 (Accor membership) location , parking $24 per 24 hours is definitely worth it ,

Poor customer service. Due to flight cancellations beyond our control we could not make our booking. When contacting the accommodation and explaining the situation we requested a credit to stay at a different time. Flat out refused. The accomodation was paid for by family members as a birthday gift. Very disappointed with the outcome

Dear 322trinac, Thank you for your feedback. We regret to hear about your disappointing experience and understand how frustrating flight cancellations can be. We offer two types of reservations: Flexible, which allows for changes or cancellations, and Non-Refundable/Non-Cancellation, which is typically a lower rate but offers less flexibility. Most guests choose the Flexible rate for situations like this. If you booked a Non-Refundable rate, we recommend checking with your travel insurance to see if you can claim the lost funds. Best regards, Alex Mihardja Executive Assistant

Husband and I travelled to Melbourne to attend a function. Checked in online before we got to the hotel which seems to be a complete waste of time. Check in desk is wedged in under some stairs and the whole reception area looks temporary with walls that appear to have been put in place while something else happened but never taken down.
Our room (424) was one of the worst rooms I have ever encountered, if this is the standard of Mercure then I won't stay at a Mercure again. The room was small and felt claustrophobic with odd angled walls throughout. The wardrobe, which also contained a fridge and tea/coffee items, looked like something from an Ikea sale. There was one small window which overlooked a lightwell but the bathroom, which appears to be an afterthought, was blocking 2 thirds of the window so no natural light in the room.
The bathroom was tiny but very clean. On the plus side the shower was hot with excellent water pressure. The airconditioning roared very loudly but had no choice to have it on as it was the only way of getting any air.
The breakfast we had was average but kept running out of items, there seemed to be no proactive approach to keeping everything topped up.
The best feature of this hotel is its location. A couple of steps from Swanston Street means that you can walk most of the city with ease. The free city trams provide a quick way of getting from Southern Cross station to the hotel, 5 minutes walk from the tram stop.
For the price we paid and the quality of the hotel I would not stay here agin. It is overpriced and lacking the space/quality I expect of a Mercure. Maybe change it to an Ibis Budget to better manage expectations?

Happy Anniversary to us! My partner made a surprise booking at the Mercure and so a quick train trip from home with a small bag had us settled into our superior king room on the 5th floor by 4pm. Spacious and simple in design, the room was ideal for our special night. The nice little nook window complete with comfortable chair looked out onto Little Bourke Street and up to the start of Chinatown looking east. We were in the heart of so many restaurants. A knock at the door and voila - a lovely woman delivered an ice bucket and glasses with chilled De Botoli sparkling wine from The Yarra Valley. Feeling very spoilt. Our restaurant booking was for 7.30, so we watched a little tv, showered, listened to a podcast and even caught a half hour nap. Oh how I love hotel linen. Back from the restaurant (Maha in Bond Street) by 10.30pm, we swiped our room key to get ourselves back into the hotel and headed to our room. We had organised a late checkout but unfortunately, the sounds of people leaving and the cleaning staff doing their job, it woke us early and we couldn’t really get back to sleep. Apart from that morning noise, the hotel is very quiet and the room temperature easy to set to your comfort levels. Check in and check out was seamless. Breakfast is optional and may be included in your package - ask when booking. Breakfast is at the Louder which is part of the Mercure. Notes: iron, ironing board, bar fridge with milk, tea and coffee making facilities, safe, tissues, USB ports, usual shower and bathroom wares. Lovely place to stay in the heart of Melbourne at a reasonable price.

This is in a great location. Next to the emporium, QV is only a block or so away, state library and Chinatown nearby and plenty of tram stops nearby to get elsewhere.
I booked a standard queen room and it’s so basic and noisy. I can hear the neighbours tv shows and if someone is running water, even when someone was turning a PowerPoint off. The air con is noisy, the fridge is forever making noises on and off all night.
Bed is quite thin too and the pillows were so squashed that there wasn’t much support. I did request a room away from the street coz I don’t like dealing with street sounds and they honoured that request.
Room seems a bit dated too. Could do with a lick of paint and update the ceiling and lights (who still has popcorn ceilings) Bathroom needed to be better space wise, coz I’ve never seen a hotel shower so small, coz as long as you don’t open your arms too wide while washing your hair, you’ll be ok.
And despite such a small window the curtains could’ve been better to block out the light. Didn’t appreciate getting woken up at 6am from all the light streaming despite the curtains being closed.
Also one of their lifts is currently under renovation, so they only have one available so if you get there and the lift is going up, you usually have to wait for it to go all the way to the 12th floor before it comes back. There is signs apologising and offering if you want to take the fire stairs, but who is really gonna take the stairs with suitcases in hand and if you’re on a higher floor too.
I’d pass on staying in a classic room and hope that more standard or superior type rooms are better classics. For 3.5 star hotel, I was hoping for a bit better. Also didn’t even get asked if I enjoyed my stay, just am I checking out. I was in a bit of a hurry when checking out otherwise I would’ve made comments when leaving but one of the receptionists must’ve been new and was taking awhile so I couldn’t afford to hang around.

The hotel is so well located in short proximity to Bourke Street Mall next door to David Jones and Myers. It is a very well priced comfortable and secure hotel and I would highly recommend every aspect of this gorgeous basic but comfortable hotel. Jemimamae at reception (seen twice in the last two weeks) is so knowledgeable, so welcoming and incredibly informed it makes it so easy to check in and check out Location is the primary benefit. It is short walk to Swanston Street and all trams. I cannot recommend this property high enough for a comfortable and well priced stay. Breakfast is just okay. Certainly a very spacious breakfast area but nothing out of the ordinary I was not offered any special service. My go to for value.

It does have valet & or self off-site parking. The car park is in Russell Street about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. We parked our own car, and when you get your ticket you give it to the hotel. I can't remember the price to be honest but it was cheap. The only thing is the walk with the luggage to the hotel, you cut through China Town but it can be difficult walking through the pedestrian traffic if you have numerous bags. If it just an overnight bag then no problem.
The last time I stayed there, they put hold a certain amount of money (I can't remember how much) for in house expenditure eg mini bar, meals. For example, if you have a credit limit of $1,000 on your card, and the hotel put a hold of $100, then you have $900 to use on your card. The amount is not taken out of your account and the hold on the $100 is normally released on check out or a few days later. The amount they hold depends on the hotel. I once had a hold of $100 per day and I stayed at that hotel for a week, so $700 was blocked off my credit card. However It is strange that hotels with no mini bar or inhouse dining do a hold. So Iassume if you decide to thrash the room, you do not get your money back.
