Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clean and comfortable for a short stay. Well located for food and transport options. I had an event to attend, and though I had requested an early check in, if possible, to change for the event and leave my luggage, my room was not available. I was able to leave my bag at reception, and use a bathroom upstairs to change quickly. Staff were friendly and helpful when I returned to finally check in after the event. My room on the second floor was comfortable and quiet, despite the hotel location being very busy. Plenty of options for food nearby. Shopping and transport nearby. On check out they did try to charge me for early check in, until I explained that I did NOT get a keycard, or access to a room until after 6pm.

Hotel's Favourite
Centrally located in Melbourne you have easy access to trams, theatres, restaurants, cafes, pubs, museums and galleries. If you are arriving at Melbourne Airport, the city bus drops you off at Southern Cross Station, and from the exit to Bourke Street catch a tram to Swanson Street where a short walk will bring you to the hotel. Easy walks from the hotel to all attractions but if feeling lazy take the free trams which will take you to anywhere in the city centre. The hotel is clean and the staff extremely helpful, friendly and efficient. The rooms are quite large and the shower is fantastic. There are tea and coffee facilities and a fridge but these are in the cupboard which takes up space but still plenty of room for two to hang up their clothes. I am an Accor plus member which meant that we were also given a welcoming drink voucher. We will certainly book this hotel when we next visit Melbourne.

Pros - - location was central to shopping malls and tram stops. - room size was decent for 2. - blinds kept light out of room. Cons - - had to pay a $40 early check in fee. - beds were hard. - shower was extremely narrow, the water pressure was weak and the temperature would often fluctuate without us touching it. - Bathroom size was tiny. - it was noisy from external hotel guests and cars down below (we were on 5th floor).

This hotel does NOT deserve the Mariot name! It is a glorified 3.5 star with a 5 star price. How dare they charge as much as they do! Be careful do not be fooled as I was. The room service is expensive pizzas only from a bar next doo! I booked and paid for valet parking. It was pay and self parking. Don't bother calling them they do not ever answer! Never again!

I booked this hotel and then saw the negative trivago reviews and was worried. The negative reviews were very wrong! The accommodation is in an excellent location, everything at your door step. The staff were so kind and friendly and helpful and the room was beautiful. It was clean, tidy, had everything we needed and huge shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The beds were extremely comfortable and the brekky was delicious with great variety. Absolutely recommend and we will stay again.

Absolutely hideous, sorry. Nothing like the photos I was charged twice for one night. I checked into room 832 and had to ask for the carpet to be vacuumed, there was mould in the shower , and my window looked o it at a wall , and I had two large air conditioner grates to look at . The hell continued during the night . You can hear every door of the corridor opening or closing all night . I called the desk twice and no one answered. This is most definitely the WORSTE HOTEL EVER,,,!!

You couldn’t even swing a cat in the room. Very basic amenities. We could hear everything in all the rooms on our level which kept us up all night. Staff were friendly and hospitable. The motel itself is close to the Bourke St Mall and lots of choices of meals.

This hotel is HORRENDOUS! Please change the hotel’s name to Ibis Budget. It does not live up to the name Mercure. As a platinum member, I was upgraded to a King standard room. The room was a JOKE for a Mercure standard. I was greeted by a tired-looking interior with a hideous cool white light (felt like a hospital room). The exposed pipes on the ceilings and walls were so horrible that I even questioned if Mercure needed to cheapen for not hiring an interior designer. The furniture was outdated, dreadful, and made of cheap materials. The room just looked like a cheap motel on a suburbia highway. This is by far the ugliest room I have ever stayed across in my whole experience with Accor (even Ibis hotels in Asia can do better). I stayed from 7 - 20 July 2023 (that’s 13 nights) and therefore I had a more fair and sufficient time to comment about this hotel throughout my stay. Please send your staff to some hospitality training and learn how to spell the word HOSPITALITY. I can only remember that Anish and another Asian lady were friendly and helpful. The rest were ignorant, arrogant, rude, and not helpful. Even the hotel manager suddenly disappeared in the middle of the conversation and left me hanging. Not to mention Alex Mihardja (another staff that I texted on WhatsApp regarding some complaints) was so rude and did not handle my complaint satisfactorily. He vanished and did not reply in the middle of the text. It was so rude and not helpful. He used several unnecessary exclamation marks and tried to outsmart you. May I suggest you learn about your going green policy and check with your staff before talking to your hotel guest? There were two super ill-mannered staff at the breakfast buffet, one Asian lady and the other one called Mark. The Asian lady was overbearing, full of herself, and strongly opinionated. She even showed off that she was also an Accor platinum member and treated me like a kindergarten student. She lectured me when in fact the problem/fault was in their system. She did not even apologize. She acted as if she was right and on a grand mission to prove me wrong. Mark was so disrespectful and repeatedly kept shouting “You have to pay, you have to pay” to my guest and me; not knowing that I was a platinum member and entitled to a free breakfast. Due to the ongoing renovations, they had to block one lift for the construction workers. Hence we were left with one lift serving the entire building (from hotel guests, housekeepers, staff, etc). This did not suffice. I had to ridiculously wait for more than 15 mins long just to go down and not to mention the lift filled with the housekeeper’s cart and luggage. They had this going green campaign and I opted to join. But the policy stated that I had to get my room serviced every 3 days so I agreed. However, they did not service my room at all as we agreed. I had to go down personally and asked them to note the date when I wanted to get my room serviced. Even when they serviced, they did poorly. They did not refill my hand soap, body wash, and shampoo. They did not vacuum the carpet (I even took a video of some used condom packages from other hotel guests found under the side table and showed it to the horrified front desk). They did not change my bedsheet after 3 days and the bed was poorly made. It was miserable. I suggest they do something about the hotel before more damage is done.

This is easily the worst accomodation I’ve ever stayed at. The mattress was horrendous for a hotel, the curtains were ineffectual and the rooms were of a lower standard than a cheap motel. The noise that could be heard by neighbouring rooms was terrible. I had to raise this not once but twice with the staff before they did anything. The room they ‘upgraded’ me to had a door that rattled incredibly loudly every time someone opened or closed a nearby door. Just terrible.

Booked this months ahead and arrived with wife to a tired and vary basic room. Paid good price expecting at least good 3 star service. Sadly lifts were faulty and that was just the start. Ill leave the basic room as others can comment on that! Woke up to noise and had a reasonably nice breakfast. Went up to room and arrived with demolition bins and full construction site on our floor with still 90 minutes before checkout. Even more disappointing was the lack of real care about my experience by management. The goffer sent out as the token manager placated me by offering token hotel items! That was the last thing I would want! Will never recommend this business and please don't send a sorry email about my experience. I expect better service face to face, not when you see your public image might be tainted! If staying here for the next few months check where works are occurring on the floors as they are doing a full renovation and I don't think management give a crap about your experience. Have stayed in the CBD many times and would say there are many other venues within their price margin that are so much better.
