The location of this hotel was why we booked and it did not disappoint in terms of location - shops, cafes, restaurants and trams all within walking distance. We had a standard double room and the room was big and beds were comfy, although being 4.5 star hotel i expected a more "wow factor" in the look of the room....

We stayed at the Swanston for two nights while attending work functions. We booked an Executive King room and requested a quiet room away from lifts as this hotel is continually busy with guests coming and going. We were given room 217 which was spacious with separate living area, king bedroom, large bathroom and separate laundry facilities. Our room was...

This hotel is in Swanston Street right in the middle of things in Melbourne. The room was large and roomy with a comfortable bed and very clean. The soul bar was great for a quick snack and good value. With the vast number of local cafes and restaurants I ate out rather than at the hotel.

We booked this hotel via the Internet which had such headings as "hot deal" and "modern decor". It is anything but and my wife and I were bitterly disappointed upon entering our poor excuse for a hotel room. It was tiny and dowdy to boot. The carpet was so thin and the underlying concrete floor so rough that little mounds...

This was a great place to stay just outside of Melbourne. The hotel has been recently remodeled and the facilities are excellent. The staff were more than friendly and the breakfast buffet was extravagant.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
