I cant praise the staff here enough, after a stressful drive to the hotel and overshooting the laneway to park the car (& not wanting to drive around the city block again) the girl on the front desk was extremely helpful, booked us in and took me to the valet parking desk. The valet parking attendant was commendable, extremely helpful...

The location in Swanston Street is excellent with great shopping within easy walking distance. It is close to Flinders Street Station and the trams stop out the front. The room was one of the biggest we have stayed in. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. The staff were very helpful.

Central location, easy to access most melbourne attractions, great staff, comfy rooms. Reasonable rates given the location in the heart of the CBD. Outstanding cafes close by. Many Thanks , will be back.

This hotel provided an excellent location to Access everything we wanted to do in Melbourne. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was on the small side but tastefully appointed. We will definitely stay here when we return to Melbourne.

The hotel was in good condition and the room was comfortable and well appointed. The location was great as it was close to fine dining and shops. The breakfast area let them down as the buffet eggs and bacon were not hot and fresh.

The Grand Mercure and the Mercure Welcome are adjacent to each other and share restaurants etc. Chinatown is right around the corner and this is a very happening place. The property is old but reasonably well maintained. The rooms are comfy. Given the location it is always busy and quite noisy. Wifi is free only for loyalty club members else...

Was quite concerned after reading a few negative comments with regards to the housekeeping and cleanliness of the hotel. However, these concerns were proven unnecessary during our 4 nights stay there. Stayed in a room with two double beds which was very comfortable for our family of 4. The room was made up daily and the toilet cleaned well. Though...

This hotel has to be in the most convenient location if you want to stay on the CBD area. Trams at the front door, awesome shopping all around you. Very professional staff. Very clean and nicely presentated rooms. We stayed in a junior suite and this was very roomy and suited our week long stay. Very nice restaurant.

First I have to say the staff at front desk, housekeeping, Soul Cafe, & bar were all excellent. The room was another matter, it was very tired. This Hotel is listed as 4 star but I'm not sure how. The bed felt so old that the filling had compacted, the curtains were coming off the rails. As for the bathroom...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
