We stayed 5 nights in a suite on the 10th floor. I am a platinum elite member so it was a bit disappointing that this hotel does not provide the best possible complimentary upgrade at check in as I was charged for the suite upgrade, yet the room isn't much larger than the standard room. I think they did this because I had booked my stay using Marriott points but this does not comply with the rewards detailed in the Marriott scheme. Nonetheless, we had a great stay. The hotel is superbly located and we could have breakfast either in the club lounge on the 9th floor or in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant provided more choice but the breakfast in the club lounge was also excellent. The food and beverage offerings in the club lounge from 5.30 to 9.30 pm each evening are superb. This hotel has an amazing concierge service led by manager Anthony and JC Chen is outstanding. Whilst I checked us in, my husband spoke to JC Chen and he provided him with so much helpful advice and a map. Every time we entered or returned to the hotel, concierge were there to greet us and offer help if required. The hotel is well located within easy access of many of the attractions Melbourne has to offer. It is very close to Chinatown and there are lots of restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the hotel. The room was comfortable and quiet despite being located next to the lifts.

Dear CathyGri, Many thanks for posting your review following your visit with us at the Melbourne Marriott Hotel. We greatly appreciate the support of our valued Marriott Bonvoy Elite Loyalty members. Being a smaller hotel, we have a limited number of suites however, but we do our best to upgrade Elite members to the best available room at the time. I was delighted to hear that both Anthony and JC looked after you well and your appreciation will be passed on. Our people do try very hard and it is a terrific boost for morale when their efforts are individually acknowledged by our guests. The hotel is very centrally located in the CBD and I was pleased that you obviously took advantage to see the sights on offer in our city. I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you again when you travels bring you back this way. With kindest regards, Gaurav Wattal - General Manager

We stayed in the Larger King Suite which was certainly spacious and comfortable. The shower was large although there was only one toilet which was not as convenient. Impressively, there were a couple of seating areas that was also well set out so you can enjoy the space.
We commend the staff for the excellent customer service (engaging, friendly, polite and smiling, and always responding to requests immediately) throughout our stay. However, there were two or three concierge and executive lounge staff who never smiled, looked like they did not enjoy their job, and tried to avoid eye contact as though they were avoiding being requested to assist with something.
There was an isolated incident where we were dismayed that one of the 'fresh' bath towels was stained with what we would not like to guess. Wish that the cleaning staff would check the towels before distribution.
Major complaint though is that the executive lounge was sadly poor. It was almost always crowded to the brim, food ran out, cutlery ran out, mugs ran out, only one staff was rostered, seating arrangements were claustrophobic (hard to relax and unwind when people are literally sitting, standing and walking around in very close proximity), the hot water dispenser for the coffee and tea was laboriously slow, etc.
Overall, great hotel but stopped short of convincing me of making it our hotel of choice for our thrice annual trips to Melbourne.

Dear EnceladusEuropa, We greatly appreciate receiving honest feedback from our guests ..... whether good or bad ..... and thank you for taking the time to post your review. We take great pride in extending warm, welcoming and helpful service so I was extremely disappointed to hear that you found this not to be the case with some of our Concierge and Executive Lounge team. Thank you sincerely for bringing this to our attention to follow up. I was horrified to hear of the soiled towel in your room and this will be investigated. Please accept our apologies and be assured that closer supervision will also be given in future. I'm not sure when you stayed, but during the recent very busy tennis period our Executive Lounge was unusually busy and I apologize for your concerns on this occasion. You would be pleased to know however that we do have plans to improve our Lounge as we have been aware it is inadequate at certain times of the year. I do hope you will give us another chance and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back again. Sincerely, Gaurav Wattal - General Manager

Dear caw0606, I was most disappointed to hear that the used cups in your room were not replaced daily. (All used cups and glasses are returned to our kitchen for thorough cleaning.) Please be assured this will be highlighted to our Executive Housekeeper and closer supervision given in future. The poor quality of the ironing board should also have been noticed. I am very sorry for your disappointments on this occasion and thank you sincerely for your honest feedback .... to ensure we are 'kept on our toes'. Kindest regards, Gaurav Wattal - General Manager

Booked breakfast for 8.30am. It was a disappointment for the reasons I will explain. If I am paying $600 to $700 for a room I would expect a better set up. Looked like restaurants you see at Hong Kong ,cluttered. Started with bacon ,over cooked, hard, like eating a cardboard.Next tryed scrambled egg, couldn’t eat it ,it was more cream than eggs in it. I had to ask the chef for fried eggs, that was perfect. Next if you want to butter yr bread ,take it to your table butter it then bring back to put jam on it. They do not have small jam sachets, where you can take it to your table and finish, I do not think it is hygiene to have jars of spreads in the open where every one dips in it,you wouldn’t expect from an international hotel like Marriott. But I must admit their jams were beautiful tasty.Later a tray of cooked tomatoes, patato gems, waffle etc was brought and put on the top of shelf left it uncovered. Not everything was negative they had the usual fruit, different varieties of melon and cold cut meat. Coffe was very good too.

A lovely property staff very friendly, but follow thru and details are not their strong suit. We received a warm welcome and were offered a upgrade since we are Platnium members we have been upgraded at many hotels. In all these upgrades we were always told the total cost if there was one, not here we were informed our room wasn’t ready yet but we could upgrade to a 2 room suite for $120.00 a night we decided to accept. Just checked out on way to catch a flight and invoice is for $180.00 per night. I will have to call and dispute. The next unpleasant occurrence was with the bell staff, upon arriving back at the hotel at 1:10 p.m. I requested a bell person retrieve our luggage in about 10 minutes from our room to make our transfer. No bell person arrived at our room so we took our luggage down. Not such a big deal, but when the bellman I had asked for the help originally saw us walking from the elevators to the front door and the awaiting car. He came to assist us place our bags in the car after the driver and I had placed most in the car but seemed to be waiting for a tip? No help but tip wanted not very nice. Don’t get this review wrong the room was very nice and staff seemed very friendly and helpful. So we would stay again but with our eyes more watchful.

As part of the Victorian Government voucher system we chose to visit this hotel for a two day visit to the Melbourne CBD
The position is not bad, at the top end of Melbourne close to many theatres and restaurants.
Service on booking in was excellent and helpful.
We chose an upgrade to a suite. This provided a greater space.

A large king bed was comfortable and the bathroom well equipped. Water pressure in the shower was excellent

Breakfast on day one (Sunday ) was a full buffet with the usual offerings. Bacon, scrambled ( bit watery) hash browns etc. a full, array of cold options also available.
Breakfast the second day differed in that the buffet was not operating, rather one chose one meal from a menu. While this was fine it did not offer all the options of the buffet. Also none of the toasters were in operation and as such toast etc was not availabe

My wife and I arrived in Melbourne on the day that the Australian government imposed 14-day COVID-19 isolation protocols for all arrivals from another country. The Melbourne Marriott was well prepared for such eventuality. In anticipation of a lengthy stay, they upgraded us to a suite at a reduced rate to make our stay more comfortable. They were wonderfully accommodating to every request and were very prompt at delivering our meals. Fortunately, we were able to book an early return to the US and only needed to stay in quarantine for two days. If our travels take us to Melbourne again, we will be pleased to stay at this property.

We stayed here 5 nights attending the Australian Open. (It's about a 20 minute walk to the tournament but easier and faster than other transportation.) It's not a new hotel, but the beds are very comfortable and the shower is wonderful. (You'd think with premier hotels, that would be a given - but it's not.) The rooms are fairly standard, but the real feature of this hotel is the staff. From the bellman, to reception staff, to the cleaning crew - they could not be more helpful or engaging. This hotel provides excellent customer service!

A smallish no frills marriott. Everything is modest - all day restaurant, bar, meeting area, gym and indoor pool

Lucky i paid extra for a suite which improved the experience somewhat. But the room like hotel is oldish and uninspired. Beware the shower head that is loose and fell off several times

Service is aussie friendly and location ok

Came to celebrate my partners 40th birthday in Melbourne (then on to Sydney) and we LOVED our stay at the Marriott in Melbourne. We had a suite with access to the 9th floor lounge, and really enjoyed breakfast and evening drinks there every day. The staff was so incredibly friendly, (special thanks to Cassie in the lounge who sent a birthday surprise to our room!). Location was walkable to so much in the CBD, and we enjoyed so much tasty food in Chinatown nearby. We will be back!

Hi Gary, the breakfast is fabulous! It's a typical buffet-style but doesn't scrimp on choice. You can also order omelets and have custom foods prepared for you. One of the best overall, IMO. As a solo traveler, I don't pay much attention to bed size, so I can't tell you the difference between King and Queen, but I think the bed would sleep two easily.
