Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clean, comfortable, friendly helpful staff and close to Southern Cross Station. The cost of the room for the night was very reasonable as well. Only thing I can pick at is there was no toaster in the room.

Great place to stay for transport to and from city. Room clean. Small for a twin share but comfortable. Tiny bathroom with hand basin outside bathroom, in bedroom. Good for sleeping and heading off for the day. Not a sit and relax kind of room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Could be a little cheaper for twin share given the very small space.

Be careful booking this hotel. Only a 2 star but they charge you as a 4 star! This was the worst hotel room (room 206) I have ever stayed in for the $$$$ we paid and I travel the world for my work staying in all kinds of accom. It should not be be in the pool of rooms to rent! Pics on the website didn't match the room. I did put a note with the booking that it was a special occasion-my mums 80th birthday celebration with my family. I guess this was a waste of time. The only savour was the location. Jason Childs

Check-in wasn’t the best, I didn’t get the receptionists name, but he spoke very quickly and wasn’t at all forth coming with any information about the hotel etc. Didn't want to spend quality timne with me. The room was quite large, the bed was comfortable, however no drawers to store anything and the most unusual hanging rack that was clunky to use as you had to remove everything in order to get to a garment at the back? The bathroom was very small and not functional, we are luckly we are small people as a larger person would really struggle. The road/railway noise could be heard from the 4th floor, which didn’t really bother us but would do so if you are a light sleeper. The bar/restaurant was good, great staff. Hayden and the main barman (his name started with a “T”), were excellent. Very friendly and professional. "Happy hour" was a little none-existent as it wasn’t clear to anyone which drinks qualified for this? The food in the restaurant was fine and the serving sizes were perfect. We nearly missed breakfast as we went by the times laid out in the in-room book which stated 6:30-10.00. when we got the the restaurant they told us that breakfast finished at 9:30. Luckily they allowed us in (it was 9.28 when we got there.) The carpark is a nightmare! I understand that space is limited down there, this was not helped by the fact that the exit lane was closed off. Luckily no one was coming in while I was leaving but I can only imagine the disruption to everyone had a car wanted to enter while I was leaving using the same entry/exit lane. Overall we enjoyed our stay, just need an open mind to accept some of the challenges.

My second time at this Hotel. The location is so convenient with Skybus, Trams and Trains right outside. Marvel Stadium is a few minutes walk on the same street. Rooms are clean and comfortable and amazing staff.

We originally booked the standard room, but it was a disgrace. Mouldy smell, very small, facilities awful. We upgraded to the premium room which was quite good. Although expensive. We lodged a complaint to reception and they upgraded us for another $60. Parking arrangement at Flinders Lane is very good. Very limited parking at the hotel. Maybe 8 cars ...tops

During the first night of our stay, we encountered a situation where a flying insect was found in the room. We immediately contacted the reception for assistance, but unfortunately, the insect had disappeared under the beds by the time the staff arrived. The receptionist informed us that the room would be cleaned the next morning upon notifying the housekeeping team. However, due to our fear of insects (especially considering the large size of the insect we encountered), we expressed our dissatisfaction with this arrangement and requested a room change. The receptionist promised to look into the matter and get back to us shortly. However, after waiting for an extended period without receiving any communication, we decided to contact the reception once again. To our disappointment, we were informed that the hotel was fully booked and they couldn't assist us with a room change. Struggling to find a solution, we began searching for alternative accommodations nearby, as we couldn't bear the thought of staying in a room with the insect overnight. It was during this search that we discovered the hotel still had availability for booking on online travel platforms (OTAs). Feeling frustrated and deceived, we called the reception again to express our dissatisfaction and question why they had provided us with false information. After a brief moment, a staff member from the reception came back to us and informed us that they could now arrange a new room for us, offering an upgrade during our stay. While the issue was eventually resolved with the room change, we were deeply disappointed by the unfriendly attitude and lack of proactive solutions from the hotel staff. It seemed as though they did not consider an insect in the room to be a significant problem, or perhaps they were not attentive to our concerns. Additionally, we experienced other issues such as a foul odor from the drainage system and the room not being serviced despite placing the "make up room" sign in the morning.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are compact but very easy to move around. Had a good shower and space to put suitcase. Welcomed having an ironing board and iron!! Had a lovely breakfast and also enjoyed Happy Hour in the large marble room. Definitely will stay here again when in Melbourne

Unhelpful staff, dining room closed, very small room & not pleasant decor. Had to squeeze between chair & bed to go to toilet & couldn’t put chair elsewhere as there was no room. Have stayed in their larger rooms & they are very nice .
