We booked this hotel as a one night stopover before leaving on a cruise , booked it because it appeared to be one of , if not the closest hotel to Station Pier , could be I'm not sure but was just a short $20 cab fare away .

We arrived around lunch unfortunately our room was not ready so left our bags with the friendly concierge on the ground floor and went across the road to DFO , yep DFO is a short 150 metre walk across the road as is the Exhibition hall , very close to these facilities.

Arrived back about 3 .00 and went to reception on level 7 where we were greeted by friendly staff , our room was on level 3 which was a bit of a disapointment but thats the luck of the draw I guess , having said that room was very quiet.

Room had 2 double beds and was a fairly decent size , bathroom however is on the small size. Very nicely appointed and very modern. Beaut infinity pool on level 6 - was strange to see dogs sitting beside pool but this hotel is dog friendly and every dog we encountered was well behaved so no dramas there.

there is limited food options at hotel , room service , bar menu all with a spanish bent , restaurant was closed as was a public holiday. No restaurants nearby in the street either , food court at DFO is a cheap option if still open however we decided to walk to Crown Casino , it was an easy 15 minute walk and felt very safe .

Breakfast buffet the next morning was Great ! May not be the biggest or most variety Ive ever had but it certainly was the freshest , nothing was soggy nor felt as if it had been sitting around for long . Have the spanish omelette you wont regret it ! The chef was a bit of a character and up for some friendly banter too , nice guy and great chef !

Front desk cheerfully organised cab for us to Station Pier and check out was a breeze.

All in All a great hotel , in a fairly good location , I would definitely stay there again , no qualms about that . Location probably knocks it from a 5 to to 4 & 3/4 stars !!

The AC is a wonderful hotel. The first surprise was the cost of the council street parking - $1 per hour, so I parked my car right at the front of the hotel both nights for minimal cost. Check in was quick and professional. I was located on the first floor looking over the tram terminus which was fun being a Melbournian. There was absolutely no street noise, the room was very quiet. The bed looked so inviting and was very comfortable. The room had a small fridge, lovely soaps etc, a nice vase of lilacs which I appreciated. TV was great, huge. Shower fabulous. The bathroom sink is outside the bathroom. Lovely towels. Room service is provided by the Spanish restaurant in house. The food was good. Complimentary bottles of water supplied each day. I really loved my stay and I would definitely stay again. God knows how any guest can complain about this hotel. It is relatively new, the staff are friendly and the rooms are great. It is on the immediate outskirts of Melbourne CBD (walking distance) but not far at all and close to Crown Casino.

Stayed there about 7 nights. Friendly professional managers who tried to make our stay more comfortable by accommodating our room requests. Staff were also very helpful with check ins, our deliveries to the hotel and room service.

The hotel's location is slightly away from the city, but we chose it due to its newness.

There is no driveway so getting an uber can be abit dicey as it requires running across the road for majority of the rides. Hotel was accommodating to provide a checkout extension by one or two hours but one has to repeatedly request for it to get it recorded as the manager the next day may not have records.

The design of rooms is aesthetically pleasing and there is a good view. The higher tier rooms appear to be more spacious than hotels in the cbd. The gym facilities are new and modern.

However the ventilation in bathroom could be better as the water that pools in front of toilet area after a shower doesn't dry up even overnight.

Housekeeping has room for improvement. When we first checked in, the shower foam bottle was empty which means these aren't checked or cleaned between guests. Guests have to waste time asking for things and waiting after a long day. Housekeeping staff also carry the new bath towels against their uniform.

On one of the nights we asked for an item to be given since it wasn't replenished as it should be. After waiting, it didn't come so I went to shower. To my surprise I realised someone later that Housekeeping (male) had come into the room to leave it there without me opening the door, whilst I was otherwise occupied. Very weird.

After we let this one go on account of the otherwise ernest service by the hotel, the next evening we came back to the room entirely uncleaned, rubbish still there. Highly unpleasant as one books a hotel to come back to a clean room. Someone was sent up to clean up, and did while we waited.

To my surprise the hotel never bothered explaining this even after we asked.

Dear emmalS1556CK Thank your recent review on AC by Marriott Melbourne Southbank. We are genuinely sorry for missing the mark on this occasion. The housekeeping team are generally very meticulous and responsive, and we sincerely apologise for your less than wonderful service experience, as we take our cleanliness and service standards very seriously. This is definitely not the norm for an AC stay. If you do have the time, our Operations Manager, Sri, would like to chat further about your matter. Had high hopes for the stay but was let down too many times. Reception was via a small ramps on the ground floor to lifts to the 7th floor !!
With booking a deluxe King room we thought a view might be on the cards but ended up on the first floor overlooking a tram yard. Someone else’s door nearby had no soft close and we thought the TV was going to fall off the wall and the lights shook due to the loud bang. The chaise in the room was too big for the space and meant you had to squeeze past the bottom of the bed. We had no Robes in the room either.
The toilet position meant you couldn’t open the bathroom door without being kneecapped and when you went to stand up, you nearly knocked yourself out on the wall opposite. The toilet seat creaked and banged against the wall every time you moved and the toilet roll holder was right next to the door space, so the end of the roll kept getting trapped in the door.
And due to the rain falling on the glass overhang by the window all we heard was drips and splashes, not gentle rain.
I feel bad for the comments, when the staff were all very friendly, but wont be going back again.

I booked this hotel based on recommendations to stay in Southbank, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. The location, surrounded by construction and abandoned lots, wasn't desirable. Upon pulling up in our cab my husband immediately snapped and was like “why would you book this place?” which didn’t exactly
set the tone for a great day. I too was irritated since I did make the selection and I was so disappointed at the location, which while technically may be Southbank, is quite deceiving. It's on the other side of the freeway, making accessibility to much of anything a no go and transportation to tourist areas problematic. We were hoping to drop our belongings, refresh, and explore after a long flight, but instead, we felt trapped due to the inconvenient location and ended up not even leaving our room the entire first day because it seemed like too big of a hassle and project. If I didn’t have tours planned and was just staying in Melbourne I would have made arrangements to switch hotels ( yes, the location is that bad unless you have business at the convention center). However, I must commend the friendly staff and the nice hotel itself. Check in was smooth and friendly and our room was ready when we arrived. Teh bed is comfortable. The pool bar area is quite nice too. In the future, I would never select this hotel though. And if you are considering it, I'd make sure to conduct thorough research before booking."

GENERAL MANAGER absolutely a joke to this hotel. With his behaviour no wonder the hotel staff are as poorly trained in customer service as he is!!
Extremely DISAPPOINTED!!
Upon arrival went to park at the Care carpark drove in to find four vehicles with smashed windows so decided would not be parking there. Proceeded back to hotel and requested to park car there, valet is only valet if you don't have to park the car yourself as no one knows how to drive a manual on a busy Saturday night of checkins.
Having then had my wife sitting upstairs for 25 minutes whilst I'd parked the car etc I proceeded to checkin where the checkin process is the worst I've ever encountered. Wouldn't allow my wife to check in although had ID + card in my name, waiting 45 minutes to check in is beyond ridiculous and just really disappointing considering we had planned our afternoon before heading out.
Checkin process is far too long and not necessary when it's busy and people just want to enjoy their retreat rather than be given the whole spiel.
Having made it to the room the floor in the bathroom was dirty with what looked to be housekeeping footprints where they may have cleaned the floor but not dry. A pair of someone's undies found out the front of the room was rather unpleasant unsure if housekeeping was going to collect or not. Pubic hairs found in the inside of the toilet, nothing a flush couldn't fix but seriously just disgusting.
Pool is overcrowded, size is misleading and just full of screaming obnoxious individuals clearly getting drunk in the pool. Guests with dogs rude and inconsiderate, carry your dogs rather then scaring kids!!
No parking out the front to unload luggage as guests think when a bay is marked AC Hotels they have a right to park there for as long as they like.
Breakfast is a sham, arrive for breakfast get told "go find your own table" if you can't find one then we are full. Upon finding a dirty table we sat waiting for the staff to clean which took over 5-7 minutes for someone to even realise we were of existence and the mess wasn't ours. Requested coffees with the waitress who knew nothing at all and thought I was speaking foreign when requesting a large and small cappuccino along with two baby chinos. Had no idea of what alternative milk was or if they had then handed me the pad and told me to write what I wanted. No options for Gluten Free bread until you hail down a staff member who is frantically running around, wait in excess of 15 minutes for two slices of rock hard bread which couldn't even be saved with lashings of butter.

As soon as we walked in to the reception we were made to feel welcome. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was on the18th floor and although it was opposite the lifts it was very quiet. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. We were attending the Rotary convention which was just a short walk over the road from our hotel. The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice on the buffet and great coffee. We especially liked we could order eggs that were freshly cooked. Would recommend this hotel.

The location is not convenient to major tourist attractions, but is close to the Convention Center if you're here for that. Walking everywhere was far and with all of the construction happening, it was hard to get an Uber w/o having to walk a long distance during the daytime.

The staff are top notch, especially Sarah.

Our view was horrible. Absolutely horrendous view overlooking what appeared to be a cluster of abandoned trains, debris, and industrial buildings. The hotel offered to move us but we decided it wasn't worth staying due to the inconvenient location, construction on all sides, and difficulty getting Ubers during construction hours.

I'm a Marriott lover and asked the front desk agent if a gesture could be made for all of these inconveniences, but their management declined. Offering to move our room only would have resolved the bad view.

Needless to say, I will never stay here again.

We booked this hotel for 2 nights away to celebrate my birthday. The first night I was really looking forward to a great nights sleep and a sleep in as we had left our young children with their grandparents… unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable as were the pillows. At 1am I requested different pillows that were not feathers, and I was given feathered pillows again which are so uncomfortable and have no support whatsoever. I had a really bad nights sleep, I mentioned this to reception after breakfast and the ladies there told me that they didn’t really have other options at the moment with pillows and I felt a bit brushed off to be honest.

Our King superior room was nice enough, quite compact but it worked for the 2 of us. However the bathroom door came completely off the hinges, it was then that we realised the room was made very cheaply.

Check in was good, gave off a great first impression with free welcome drinks.

Buffet breakfast was very yummy and an enjoyable experience.

Generally staff were lovely and attentive.

Beware that this is a pet friendly hotel which means that when other hotel guest go out of their room and leave their dogs alone you will hear barking and crying. The walls are very thin as stated by a hotel employee!

The pool area looked lovely and had a nice view however we didn’t use it, I would’ve like too.

I really wanted to love this hotel but I will probably not stay here again.

The restaurants and room service cannot guarantee no cross contamination of food for those with allergies.
