Detailed Reviews
We are fans of Marriott hotels having stayed at many of them around the world. We were keen to try this one as it is brand new.
We stayed for two nights just after Christmas and the hotel has been open for only about one month. As one would expect, everything appeared to be clean. However, it is not a five star hotel - in my opinion, it is four star due to the amenities and quality of finishes in the room and hotel generally.
The infinity pool at the top looks nice, but it is small and was overrun with kids when we went to inspect it.
When we arrived in our room, the TV remote control was missing and the music/program that the TV was playing was a little loud. They brought us a remote fairly quickly.
Breakfast was served on Level 3 in one of the conference rooms instead of the restaurant. The food was mediocre at best and we were not told that we could order eggs in place of the scrambled offering in the buffet.
The place feels a bit soulless, despite a high occupancy when we stayed, Perhaps, they could play jazz music in the foyer to improve the ambience.
The location of the hotel is fine, just on the outskirts of the Melbourne CBD.
Note that there is a huge private car park that is NOT under cover, directly opposite the hotel. We paid $44 for two days parking.
In summary, this hotel is quite satisfactory, kid-friendly and I would recommend it to families.

We had a wonderful 2 day stay here for our 14th year anniversary. The hotel was in a great location so getting to restaurants, shops and entertainment was an easy short walk away.
The hotel itself was very clean and comfortable, there was a good selection of hot and cold foods at the breakfast buffet although the scrambled eggs and mushrooms I had on the first morning lacked seasoning and flavour.
I used the gym once and it had everything I needed for a quick workout and I love how it is located right next to the pool. We enjoyed the heated pool although on the Saturday it was overcrowded all day because of the hot weather so there were a lot of people struggling to find a spot even on the ground to sit on (thankfully my husband found a lounge spot for us earlier in the morning and that’s where we stayed literally all day).
The only downside was bar staff and management at the rooftop bar who had an arrogant attitude on every occasion I went to order anything at the bar throughout our stay. I thought it was the stress of being so busy at first so I let it fly but it stuck which kind of made me feel I was being targeted.
Aside from that, our stay was great and we would definitely stay here again.

What an exceptional experience at this new hotel. I cannot fault any aspect of it. The rooms are spacious and clean, the staff have been lovely, the pool and sauna are fantastic, the food and service are top notch. Shout out to the staff at Sunset House who have been accommodating and attentive and to housekeeping who worked wonders with the teenage boys’ room which we recommended they avoid. Overall, we have enjoyed every minute and although this was not our first choice of hotel for this busy period in Melbourne, it has charmed us enough to unanimously become our first choice for our next stay. What a great addition to the hotels on offer. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

I wasn’t going to review this hotel because it was so bad, but whilst browsing for a hotel this evening and seeing they were asking $750+ for a basic room, I can’t hold it in.
I took my son there for his 14th birthday and right from checkin it was a bad experience. There was quite a line up of guests waiting to check in and a staff member offered my 14 year old son champagne while we waited. There’s not a chance he looks over 18 so I mentioned it to both the person who was serving and then to the staff member who checked us in but they didn’t seem to care. I actually emailed a manager afterwards and it was such a flippant “I don’t care” reply, so parents - don’t go there with your teenage children. My son would never accept alcohol but I’m sure there’s some teens out there that would’ve jumped at the chance for a sneaky drink!
I’ve stayed at most of the 5 star hotels in Melbourne and this property misses the mark by a mile. The beds were like sleeping on a concrete floor without a word of a lie. The walls are so thin, that you can’t possibly sleep beyond 7am because you can hear people coming and going and housekeeping cleaning. They’ve styled the room in a very minimalist contemporary theme, but the bathrooms come off looking like a very average gym bathroom and were already showing signs of age even though the hotel had only been open for a few months. So disappointing in so many ways. Would never stay there again.

I was expecting a little more from our stay at Marriot Docklands. I was super excited for the pool but found out upon feeling the water temperature it was just warmer then the outside winter temperature. The description on the site says ‘heated pool’ I am assuming it’s solar heated because it definitely wasn’t a pleasant temperature to actually swim in. We noticed a fair few guests piled up in the spa for that reason. Our room was nice, modern and clean. Bed was comfy. Couple of small things that brought down the experience of staying at well renowned hotel brand like Marriot. I was expecting a better view for a superior king room, the view of the carpark was pretty unappealing. The shower gel in the shower gel was empty on the wall which was annoying. The fee of $7.50 per tray for room service on top of already overpriced food and beverages is a bit cheeky too. The buffet breakfast was average, nowhere to put your plate while you put hot food it. All the guests were awkwardly trying to get food and juggle the hot food lids and there plates while trying to self serve. The food was just ok. The staff working there were nice however. The barista cappuccinos we had to pay extra for were extremely hot and I couldn’t drink it for a while while it cooled to a drinkable temperature, usually an experienced barista knows that soy milk heats up a lot quicker than regular milk so as not to overheat… I guess my expectations based on brand were a lot higher for this hotel and I felt a bit let down. Overall it was just okay.

Dear Lauren K Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and I regret to read that some aspects of your stay did not meet expectations. Our rooftop pool is indeed heated to 28 degrees. Regrettably, the Melbourne winter may have an impact when experiencing our pool. I understand that it may not be the ideal temperature for some of our guests, though our jacuzzi is also available for a warmer experience. I also appreciate your feedback and apologise for the issues you experienced during your food and beverage experience. As you can see from other reviews, this is not typical of the experience that many of our guests have and this has been shared with our Food & Beverage leadership team for follow up. I regret this may deter you from returning, but do invite you to contact myself and our Guest Experience team directly at MELDL.GEM@marriott.com as we would value the opportunity to turn your impression around and welcome you back. Warm Regards Justin Louey Rooms Division Manager

I'm currently writing this while I still in the room.
Was excited to try a new hotel and after having a good experience at the Marriott in Bangkok I gave this place a go.
Check in slow and small 4 people checking in including myself when I arrived took so long that three separate staff members said sorry for the wait would love to see what would happen when it got busy.
Paid for a "bigger" room still very small
Mini bar not stocked
7$ fee to order room service
Food tray outside my door (not mine or the next room as there door was far from mine)
Small pool small change room uninviting area altogether sauna not on.
Location is further from the cbd then expected. And docklands feels like it closed at mid day on a Thursday.
No tablet in room to order room service like other 5 star hotels
Won't be back much better options for same or cheaper price in Melbourne crown metropol comes to mind straight away.

I was forced to stay at the Marriot Hotel Docklands for one week as my partner contracted COVID-19 and I wanted to isolate from them.
The best thing about the hotel is the infinity pool, spa and sauna. I went on Winter's Solstice and had a wintery swim that was amazing. I also happily swam laps with another dude, which worked fine despite the 40 metre pool being an odd crescent shape. The view is spectacular from the pool.
I didn't get to try the Sunset House bar as the night I went there was a one year old's birthday party and the entire bar was closed for that.
I stayed in three different rooms as my first room was next door to the aforementioned one year old and on the second night that child was screaming its head off. I've never encountered that in a hotel before. I was moved to a room closer to the waterfront. It was smaller but had a nicer view.
The rooms are well appointed and the bed and linens are luxe. Had a very restful time once I was moved. This is a new hotel, everything is spotlessly clean.
The staff were so accommodating with my room changes and various requests so I would give the hotel five stars for that.
I tried room service once and it was dismal. My hamburger was greasy and yet somehow dry. Also too salty but flavourless. How did they manage that trick? I think the order was sitting around for awhile because the fries were stiff and dried out.
I did have breakfast twice at the little cafe on ground level (not the fancy one) and that was good for takeaway treats.
There were lots of corporate types staying at the hotel and they all seemed to mill around getting drunk after work. There was a slightly hostile energy coming off them in the lobby and points of egress. Definitely not my people!
I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind Docklands as its much nicer than anything in the CBD at the same price point.

Booked 2 nights close to our West Melbourne home as we begin the move interstate. Checked in on Valentine's Day afternoon, so it was quite busy. They did go over the 3pm check in time and we'd already been waiting quite a while, so credit to the staff for hurrying it along when I questioned what was happening.
We chose a 2 x double bed room which was on the 5th floor. A glimpse of the Docklands water through the window, not that I spent any time staring out of it. The room is very modern, beds were comfortable although we did get firm pillows sent up. The default ones are so soft you just sink right in.
The large flat screen tv let's you cast or plug in your own HDMI capable device. I always like places that formally let you and indeed make it easy to do this. I plugged in my Google TV and had all my stuff like at home. Didn't try the Wifi as brought my own internet too.
The infinity pool is the highlight of the hotel no question. Unfortunately Melbourne's fickle weather didn't play ball and it was plenty freezing up on the top floor even at around 21'C. Still it was nice to frolick in the water for a little while before heading down to the room for a nice hot shower. Water pressure was not super high but nothing to complain about.
On the first night I did receive a call apologizing for the delayed check in and they upgraded our access to include the M Club Lounge on the 3rd floor. We only checked it out once mid morning the next day and there was no one or no food available at all. So whilst the gesture was nice, it didn't actually give us anything added for our stay when we visited the facilities.
Breakfast is downstairs in the Archers room. The big breakfast is big. I couldn't do it the 2nd day, so opted for something smaller along with the good selection of fresh fruit.
I had a huge panic on day 2 as I lost my glasses and needed these for the long drive to Perth. Turned the room upside down and couldn't find them. When I alerted the concierge he went on a hunt for me, found them and even brought them to my room . Plenty of kudos for going to extra mile to save the day.
So whilst we a slight false start, couldn't really fault any other aspect of this new hotel. Despite some other reviews not being too complimentary towards the staff, I had the opposite experience. The staff were wonderful and really went out of their way to make you feel welcome.
A welcome addition to the Melbourne hotel set. Hopefully the Docklands district can recover - there are plenty of vacant shops due to COVID and the closure of the main tourist attraction the Melbourne Star. The Marriott is the go to place to stay in Docklands if you're looking for a hotel and not an apartment type accomodation.

The team and I were happy that you chose to stay with us for the start of your interstate move, and we were very pleased to read that you had an enjoyable visit. We appreciate your positive mentions of our smart TVs, our high-quality breakfast, and our lovely rooftop pool. Hopefully Melbourne's unpredictable weather will be more cooperative on your next visit, so that you can better enjoy our rooftop! Again, we are very sorry for your delayed check-in, and apologise that the additional access to the M Club did not add value to your visit. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our lounge in the future for an experience that reflects our high standards. Thank you for your kind remarks regarding our team and their service delivery. We strive to provide exceptional service, and we were delighted to read that we exceeded your expectations (and that we found your glasses)! We certainly hope to host you again on your next visit to the Docklands. Warm regards, Justin Louey Rooms Division Manager

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It's new and modern, so it had state-of-art facilities and rooms. I stayed in a standard King room, which was on the small-ish side but perfectly formed and very comfortable. Rooms had minimalist but stylish decor with cool greys, deep browns, white marble, slate blue, with dark chrome and brass accents in the bathroom. Very cosy and quiet. Lovely big flat screen tv. Very comfortable bed and linen. Hallways were dark, moody and stylish in a minimal way. Nice gym and pool with views across Docklands and the city.
Unassuming entrance and foyer area, with slightly awkward location (need a tram ride into the city), but overall I felt the hotel had a nice ambience and I would stay here again.

Our stay was disappointing as we expected a 5 Star experience in this new Hotel. (It's the Marriott)
Many of the issues could be solved with more experienced staff and more enthusiastic Management. But this should not be an excuse for poor service.
The Pool and the Gym were the the highlights of our stay. We spent most of our time here.
Now the negative points:
Check in desk to small and very time consuming process.
We found stinky food in the fridge from the previous guests.
Cleaning of the room was poor and occurred at nearly 6pm after many requests.
I don't know where to start with the MClub.
We have used executive lounges in hotels all over the world and this has to be the worst. I had to remind staff to stock the fridges,
and clean the coffee machines as they were not working in the morning.
MClub Evening food was not of executive lounge standards.
On our last morning it was not staffed at 11am onwards and all the lights turned off(It looked closed??). I had to go to the lobby to get someone to turn the lights on. All this reflects badly on a new hotel.
Hopefully my suggestions to the guest experience manager about the MClub are taken seriously.
If major improvements are made and the MClub improves inline with other great executive lounges, we would consider staying again.
Based on our current experience we would not recommend or stay here ever again.

I can’t see why this wouldn’t be allowed if you’re in a room with 2 double beds. Albeit, extremely uncomfortable beds!
Definitely. Our room was on a corner which had great views and a large bathroom with free standing bath. Beautiful. The actual MClub was wonderful, unlimited drinks, free alcohol during service, canapés etc and breaky cooked made to order in the MClub. We didn’t need dinner after the canapés,
Yes, there is apiary a hot tub connected to the pool
