The Mövenpick Hotel Melbourne On Spencer is frequently lauded for its convenient location and the ease of accessing nearby attractions via multiple transport options. Guests are charmed by the hotel's stylish atmosphere and modern amenities, including a popular heated pool and the unique chocolate hour.
While reviews on noise levels and room sizes are mixed, the high standards of cleanliness and the cordial service from staff often receive commendations. Nonetheless, opinions on the hotel's value vary, with some guests perceiving it as overpriced.

Fantastic stay, great location and close to the trams. The rooms were modern and had all the PowerPoints where they should be and IUSB ports around the room also. Just walk across the road to catch the skybus to the airport for $24 (or $40 return, when a taxi/uber is about $70 o/w). The coffee is great as well and they have a great restaurant as well!

Room Tip: Get the skybus to and from the airport for half the price as an Uber. It’s just across the road.

We booked this hotel for a 2 night staycation for my husbands birthday. We booked during a special offer but the system would not allow us to book both nights in 1 booking so we had to do 2 seperate bookings. we had to go down to reception on the second morning to reactivate our keys and booking which was annoying. Prior to arriving we had a couple of queries and spoke to Jess . She was going to check out our query and call us back on the next business day but we never received a call back. The parking was a little hard to find but once in the building it was easy to get to the lobby. Check in was smooth and efficient. The rooms are compact but tastefully furnished, a good sized bathroom and very clean. Being a Platinum Accor plus member we were welcomed with a lovely chocolate dessert in our room. We loved the Nespresso coffee pod machine too. We ate dinner at Miss Mi on the saturday night. The food was delicious, service was slick. We were attended to by Richard and he was a delight. He was very professional yet personable and we had a lovely conversation with him. Breakfast was ok. Unfortunately the space was very tight and therefore the offerings were your basic buffet breakfast spread. Having said that, there was sufficient there to meet most peoples tastes. A little bonus is the Chocolate hour which is wonderful and was very popular with the guests. The platters were snapped up very quickly and not replenished in a timely manner. The "cart" was placed in an area bounded by a steel barrier so manoeuvring around the area was a bit tricky with people clambering to help themselves then jostling past in the tight space to leave. perhaps placing the platters in an open area would alleviate this issue. Would love to be able to purchase the chocolates. I loved the location of the hotel. Perfect for a bit of shopping at the outlets and easy public transport options. All in all, we really enjoyed our few days there and would definitely consider staying again if we have a city staycation in the future.

It was a really hot day (38 degrees) in Melbourne, and I contacted the hotel before we arrived to ensure the air conditioning was turned on in our room (my wife has MS, and does not handle extreme heat well). The staff member I spoke to said he would do it immediately after my phone call. When we checked in, the same person I had spoken to earlier in the day greeted us (I believe his name was Michael) acknowledged my Accor membership status and was very welcoming, and advised that the room was ready and most importantly “cold”. We were very thankful. Sometimes a persons disability is not visible, but the simple act of turning on the aircon ensured our stay was perfect!
The pillows were a little hard, so I contacted housekeeping and they delivered “softer” pillows almost immediately.
Would I recommend this hotel to others, then a big yes, would I/we stay here again, a resounding yes.
Maybe please have a club sandwich on the room service menu (only hotels can deliver a good clubbie), would be my only suggestion.
Thanks Michael and the Movenpick Melbourne Team, can’t wait to see you again soon!

I had high hopes for this hotel. Long time Accor member so booked it for our AO trip having never stayed at a Movenpick before.
The hotel as portrayed on the website is not what it is in reality. So let’s address that off the bat first as that’s where the first impressions come in.
Checkin was fine but was informed that the restaurant was not open for two of our three nights stay. There is no concierge and so we asked the receptionist for recommendations as to where to eat. She didn’t have any recommendations except to “walk up the road”. Which we did and there was very little open on a Sunday night. We eventually found what appeared to be the one and only non-takeout place in the vicinity (if you’re looking for fast food you’re okay as the station is directly across the road).
We were also informed that the cafè would be closed until our third day. They advertise a hotel bar but really it’s just a counter across from the cafè with three small high tables . I was hoping for a martini but abandoned that idea when the bartender asked if Pinot Grigio was a wine.
The only food we have managed to access is room service on our second night (back after a long day at the open and not wanting traipse the streets looking for an open restaurant). Small menu but food was tasty and came quickly.
The rooms themselves are much smaller than they appear in pics but are comfortable. A twin room has two singles which are quite narrow but are comfortable. Bathroom is nice although strangely they don’t provide bars soap only refillable pump bottle shampoos and body wash.
I booked the hotel for two reasons - one is because it was 4⭐️ and two because it advertised an outdoor pool which we wanted as a relax in the hot Melbourne summer. . Be warned. The pool is NOT outdoors. It is indoors with some vertical windows which are angled to let in air but no sun. There are one or two double couches but no loungers. Good for people who want to do laps though.
So all in all - perhaps I expect more from a 4 star property or maybe I’m spoiled by Asian 4 star offerings - I feel for the price it was not what I expected. I would have had the same experience at a Mercure for way less money.

Dear Leigh D, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent stay at Mövenpick Melbourne. I appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your honest impressions, both positive and negative. I understand your disappointment regarding the opening hours of some of our venues during your stay. To clarify, Miss Mi is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, our bar is open 7 days a week, Room Service is available 24 hours a day, and our café is open from 7am to 3pm daily. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these hours may have caused. You also mentioned the limited dining options in the immediate vicinity. We acknowledge that this may not have met your expectations. To better assist future guests, we are actively training our team to have a strong knowledge of all the fantastic dining options available in the surrounding area. Regarding the pool area, I understand that the indoor pool with open louver windows may not have fully aligned with your expectations. We strive to provide accurate information on our website and wherever possible, showcase images of the entire pool area to give guests a clear understanding of the space. We appreciate your loyalty as an Accor member and strive to provide all our guests with a memorable and enjoyable stay. I hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Mövenpick Melbourne in the future and exceed your expectations. Sincerely, Cory Norris-Jones General Manager – Mövenpick Melbourne

I always stay at this hotel when I visit Melbourne, staff are always friendly and welcoming when you arrive. One staff member has remembered my name and when I check out she already has my room details ready for check out. Pete is one of the staff members I have check me in on several occasions and is always happy to change my room to a higher floor but I am happy with any room.as the rooms are always spotless whether you are arriving or returning after a day exploring Melbourne. The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Melbourne and beyond as its close by the major transport hub for buses, trains and trams.

Had three nights here and was pleasantly surprised, the rooms whilst not large were very adequate and had all the amenities one requires. The bed was comfortable and the noise was minimal, I am a very light and difficult sleeper and I had three nights of full sleep. The staff were friendly, we arrived early to drop off our suitcases and were pleasantly surprised when they said our room was ready and we could check in now. We only found two negatives, one was some towels were a bit old and threadbare and the TV appeared to be an IP-based TV and it seemed like the internet would hang and cause the TV show to pause at times with the dreaded wait circle. The hotel is right opposite the railway and bus stations and tram stops are on each side of the corner where the hotel is. We would happily stay again and have already recommended it to friends and family as a perfect mid-Melbourne place to stay.

Here for work attending a conference. I’m an Accor platinum member. When checking in, the reception staff were cold and unfriendly; it seemed like they were having a bad day and didn’t want to be there.
Overall, the room was modern and clean, with a good bed and shower. The hotel has only six floors and faces a main road, busy street, and side lanes. Yes, it’s central, but it is not soundproof. You can hear everything outside from the windows in the room. On the side street, you can hear all the trucks reversing and beeping, and the rubbish truck comes twice a week at 4 a.m. and then at 5 a.m. The doors of the rooms are very close together, and it only takes one person to slam a door. It can be really frustrating late at night and early in the morning. I have to say it was one of the worst nights of sleep I have had at a hotel.
The breakfast staff are very nice. The breakfast area is tight, and I had to ask people to move to get in and out of the table. Overall, breakfast was average but well presented.
The trams in Melbourne city are free, so it’s not really worth staying here considering the noise factor inside and outside of the hotel.

Dear michlaz21, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. I sincerely apologize for the sleepless nights you experienced and understand how important a good night's sleep is, and we deeply regret that we fell short of your expectations in this regard. I appreciate your kind words about the modern and clean room, comfortable bed, and friendly breakfast staff. However, I take your comments about the cold and unfriendly reception staff very seriously, and it is disappointing to hear as the team is usually known for being warm and welcoming. I will be speaking with my team to get a better understanding of what happened as we want to ensure all of our guests receive the same level of service on arrival. We value your Accor Platinum membership and the feedback you've provided, we are always looking at how we can improve and your review will help us with this process. We hope you'll give us another chance to demonstrate the high standards of hospitality we strive for at our hotel. Sincerely, Cory Norris-Jones General Manager – Mövenpick Melbourne

We book directly with Movenpick in the hope that flexibility and common sense would prevail. We have previously stayed here. We have previously brought matters to managements attention which have not been addressed instead you get the standard Accor letter " we will share your comments with our staff, bla bla bla"
This time we were in Melbourne as a family group for a 50th birthday.
One family member phoned reservations to book, no we have no adjoining rooms, no while we have rooms available we cannot gaurantee they will be close together. Off they went to another hotel, annoyingly our family group was broken up.
Movenpick are paranoid in applying their cancellation policies so we were stuck there.. During our stay I phoned reservations to add another person and another room, no that was not possible I would have to cancel our present booking and rebook. I hang up the phone and did it myself on line.
On arrival i asked if we could have two coffees , no we do not do coffee at night , it was 8.20pm.
Saturday night after being out all day we were the only people in the bar, after two wines we decided to be brave and have another go at getting coffees. We asked the barman who have been staring into his computer for half an hour. No we do not do coffee at night, the coffee machine was only 15 metres to his right or he could have asked one of the staff in the half full dining room.
I enjoy nibbling on chocolate at night , the chocolate was not replenished for three days. The resteraunt is firey Asian ,the lamb ribs were absolutely superb.
Welcome drink we picked out a pretty standard Pinot Grigio but on scanning our voucher we could not have the wine , the voucher was only for a cheap house wine.
Late departure is supposed to be a loyalty programme privilage we found out only on checking our account that you pay $120 for the privelage we also found public holiday surcharges had been added to our account.
Theres a lot thats just not right about this particular hotel..

We understand your frustration regarding the lack of flexibility in accommodating adjoining rooms, additional room requests, and coffee availability in the evenings. Great location. Directly opposite Southern Cross Station, same side as the sky bus terminal. So easy to just wake up and walk over to sky bus within two minutes.
Woolworths metro in the train station or a Coles located just up the road. Loads of food options nearby. Really busy area so feels safe.
Room was really bright even with what they say is blockout blinds. The gaps on the sides allow light in.
Bathroom door needs a hook. Bathroom wall has black film on the glass that lets loads of light in. Shut the bathroom door when you sleep.
Really noisy area. Trams and roadworks. Maybe ask for a higher up floor to reduce noise or bring earplugs.
They have chocolate hour where free sweets are offered. I didn't take advantage of this because it was all communal and would have preferred individual portions of food that people haven't touched.
Liquid soap is provided in the bathroom. Thank goodness hotels are moving away from gross bras of soap.
When you get off the elevator it can be a little disorienting because the foyer is decorated with striped patterns and made me feel really dizzy.

Mixed feelings at this hotel. For the price, somethings were definitely missing from a “premium hotel”. The room was neat and clean, of average size. Things expected like toothbrushes and toiletry amenities were not provided, neither were slippers.
Check in was smooth and we were able to check in slightly early. The rooms are quite noisy (we were in a room facing Spencer street), although a very convenient location to catch a tram/ train for actives.
The pool was warm and the spa excellent, if you have smaller kids, the max pool depth is 1.2m which we enjoyed, older kids may not enjoy this as much.
Chocolate hour was a great disappointment, at 5pm 3 small plates of goodies appeared, which quickly vanished and were inadequate for the amount of guests on a school holiday Sunday. We were told it would be replenished at 5.30, in which 2 small plates and some nuts again appear and were consumed at record pace.
Free ice cream for kids under 12 is great, very limited (5) flavours available however my child found one she liked and took advantage of the unlimited ice cream.
Only my child and I stayed here and then we moved hotels as there doesn’t seem to be any room types available for families without having to purchase x2 rooms which significantly increases the cost.
Breakfast was adequate, nothing special
and the hot food was just warm rather than hot. Being a smaller hotel it was a smaller offering. Barista coffee not included, Nespresso pods were.

Hi paulinemE1764RU, Thank you for taking the time to write this detailed review of your stay at Movenpick Melbourne. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed most aspects of your stay, and appreciate the feedback in regards to areas that we can improve. Accor is working towards removing all single use plastics across all hotels globally, and at Movenpick Melbourne have started this process which does mean some of our guest amenities are changing. We feel this is going to be a much better offering and more environmentally friendly option while still ensuring we deliver on the expectations of our guests. Items like toothbrushes and shaving kits are available, but we deliver these to guests as requested. Thank you again for the feedback and we hope to be able to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Cory Norris-Jones General Manager - Movenpick Melbourne
