Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went with my elderly mum. The staff were helpful the facilities maybe old but clean and quiet. The breakfast wasn’t fancy but was great. We also dined at night and the Chef cooked mums veggies softer for her much appreciated.

Stayed at The Arden for one night 12/11/22. No fuss check in, lots of parking and a good location close to the market, cbd and public transport. Rooms were reasonably large with air con, fridge and free wifi and continental breakfast. Would stay again.

This is a little gem with a personality all of its own. Having stayed in various hotels and appartments in the years we have been visiting Melbourne I am happy to state this has been one of the best value. Love this part of Melbourne and so convenient to trams, cafes, pubs. The main reason I would return is the little touches. Continental breakfast ( corn flakes, juice, milk, bread, jam etc in fridge - raisin toast for afternoon tea🤩) free parking. It’s a bit worn but it is clean, simple and value for money. Hopefully places like this stay the distance and enhance the personality of inner city Melbourne.

The Arden is a great value for money motel - being from country Vic having to stay in Melbourne for medical related purposes you are not usually in a position to be spending unnecessary money, the location is awesome & central, good ammenities of all kinds near by, I have stayed multiple times and have found the staff most helpful - don’t book expecting something your not paying the extra hundreds for - I have always found the rooms clean (1980’s styling, but I’m not looking for fancy - just convenience & comfort), you have secure parking and a reasonably quiet location, I’ll continue to book for my future needs!

Was surprised to see a notice checking in on front desk saying " no refunds after you have checked in" we could see this place was old from website, but dirty stained toilet, cracked light switch, minimal cutlery ( wrapped in paper saying cleaned for your use) but still with food dried on it !! no chopping board, dinner plates, a microwave and grill but not crockery. It was close to where we need to be and as it was school holidays nothing else available otherwise we would have left. Regardless of the no refund policy. And the seal on the fridge is so cracked and old the fridge ran all night trying to stay cold. Did other mentioning it to anyone as when I took the dirty cutlery into to office, the man's English faded after the "I have told them and told them" We booked a bigger room hoping to have our grandson's for a night but is was too cramped. Bunks all chipped, formica furniture chipped, not the nice room shown in the photos!!! This place needs needs updating, thoroughly cleaning and the kitchen properly equipped.

Was booked into a city Hotel, but they behaved disgracefully and abused this disabled woman, so I walked out and went here instead. It was very old, but clean and it served my purposes for the night. Suitable for families, but a bit cramped for a long stay. Beware of all the flowering trees in the carpark as well, took me days to get leaves and blossoms out of the car.

This place is in need of a health inspector. It's dirty unhygienic and we would never come back. First we booked two rooms through bookings.com and we requested a ground floor and email was sent to us saying we cannot request this through bookings we had to do it over the phone , when we called we were told it's another ten dollars on top of the 128$ quoted through bookings and we had to pay this on arrival, I was gobsmacked as my parents were elderly and could not walk up stairs. Then after asking why this is not on their website they just said it's their rule's. After agreeing because it was late then they requested yet another ten dollars for each card for door key one of the reception lady's was not very nice and the owner told her stop let me deal with customer. By now I was tired and just said ok. Got to parents room and after settling them going to my room and returning to mum for her to tell me there's cockroach above her head I then proceeded to go to office at 8pm (not meant to shut till 10) the office was closed so I had to kill it myself on ceiling after check room the toilet seat was dirty around seat edges, the piping from toilet to wall disgusting the window edges filthy there was a dirty stained old fashioned toilet holder hanging, the whole room was dusty the plates and cups mum had to re wash them before using they just weren't clean. Upon going back to my room which was generally ok but went into bathroom and I was gobsmacked to see the hairdryer was kept together with black tape photos attached. This is complete fire hazard but lucky I didn't need to use it. The hotel grounds were old dated. Also earlier the wifi wasn't working when I went to speak to lady in office she was rude abrupt just kept shrugging her shoulders saying working working (language barrier) I asked her if she could help me and all she said was try it outside we did not have wifi all night. We travel alot and this is not a nice place to stay.

Stayed here as wanted reasonably priced accommodation close to family who live in the area. The hotel is very old and a bit untidy from the outside. The rooms and decor are dated and the walls a bit thin. The service at reception was very helpful and friendly. The shower is hot and the room is generally as clean as you could get it for the age of the place. There is a good size fridge, a continental breakfast set out for you in the morning which includes cereal, breads to toast, condiments, tea/coffee, milk and juice. The airconditioner is both quiet and efficient. Bed was comfortable. Off street parking in appreciated. Next time we would probably go for a ground floor room and the stairs are a bit wonky in some places. We would stay here again given location and price. Road noises were low, our room faced the internal courtyard and carpark.

Don't recommend, highly overpriced for the rooms. Staff don't want to hear about any issues with room and aren't very nice to deal with. There is a lot of mould in the bathroom. Spend your money elsewhere and don't stay at this hotel.
