Comfortable enough hostel. Full of mainly long term guests on working holidays. TVs are located under the stairs which meant you had to endure chatting and stomping as you tried to enjoy a movie The bar attached attracts a lot of 'suits', making it an odd feeling for what you hoped would be a backpacker type bar to make friends... The building is very cool, with wide, winding staircases and high ceilings. The staff were really helpful and friendly! And the people staying there were friendly too. It's very clean with a fairly decent kitchen, 2 sets of jobs but no ovens. Free wifi which was pretty good most of the time and the cafe/bar next door was nice, best... More

Me and my friends arrived In Melbourne from Scotland to start our backpacking around Australia. Therefore we booked a weeks stay at this hostel to give us time to get over the jet lag as well as explore Melbourne. First of all the location of this hostel is fabulous, tram stops nearby, parks, shops etc and not too far from... More

Home at the Mansion is the best place to stay as a backpacker in Australia ! It is located just between the CBD and Fitzroy and close to a tram stop to go to St Kilda. Awsome places ! The hostel is organized in a way that make it really easy to meet people. Victoria's Secret (the hostel's bar) is... More

The hostel itself is pretty big. The rooms are pretty tidy. There are alot of people staying here long term so it seemed more like a home but not so much a short term travellers vibe. The bathrooms on all floors are amazing for a hostel, private and enough to accommodate. I think the owners have done well with such... More

Well this was certainly the most impressive building architecturally that we stayed in during our 3 month travels of Austalia. We found the Mansion place to be slightly out of town, but with great tram links taking under 5 minutes to get you into the centre. We rented a private double room here, which was fairly tiny but well priced... More

There are a lot of holiday work visa folks living here, which I wasn't really a fan of, also just cuz you put a sheet around your bed like a screen don't mean I can't hear you. The hostel is pretty clean, the kitchen is a bit small, but there are lots of bathrooms, great location, and the staff at... More

The old mansion house is the best hostel we've stayed in in Melbourne. Everyone's really friendly and the kitchen area is really clean. There's an area to watch tv and a separate area to play on the PlayStation. It's a good location, close to Brunswick street where there are lots of good restaurants and bars. Also the hostel is the... More
