We stayed at ibis melbourne central for 5 nights around Christmas in December 2024. Overall it was a great experience. The location of the hotel is very convenient and close to downtown shopping and dining streets as well as train/subway/tram stations. The area was quite safe and we felt comfortable even when returning at 2 am in the night. The hotel staff and concierge were very polite and helpful. There is a cafe at the ground floor of the hotel. The quality of food is great and this is a good place for breakfast every day.
While the hotel is convenient and clean, we found the room to be a bit small. From the pictures, we did not expect it to be this small. It was quite cramped for two people even though we had one suitcase per person. The shower area is very cramped as well.
Overall, the location was excellent, the stay was good, but we felt that the rooms were more suitable for business travelers than families.

Excellent Stay - exceeded expectations as didn’t expect much but actually was pleasantly surprised.
Room was clean, warm and had all the essentials – front desk efficient and helpful enough and the concierge and bell boys were also helpful and efficient with luggage collection/storage and assistance with unloading and loading upon check and check out.
Breakfast was also good – def secure the $16 breaky when you book online as standard price is $38 in person on the day
Would certainly visit again and they did recognise my Accor Silver membership

Great location in the Melbourne Central area. Room was nice and clean serviced everyday. Bathroom is tiny. The. Shower doesn’t have a lot of room to move around. The vanity is not in the bathroom it is out in the room which has a fridge underneath. The vanity isn’t that practical you stand about a metre away from the mirror which is hard for shaving and putting makeup on. Seems like the person who designed the room didn’t think about how a person would use the room when they stay. There was an iron and ironing board in the room which I needed to move to make space to put my luggage. If 2 people are in the room you’d struggle to find space to put your luggage.
On checkin I was charged for the room and the $100 deposit. The $100 deposit I was actually charged despite being told the hotel was only holding the $100. On checkout I checked my credit card and noticed the room and deposit had been finalised as a charge. I requested a refund on checkout of the $100 and credit card surcharge for the $100, in which I was told it will be refunded later. I requested the refund to be done while checking out which the receptionist said they need to get approval from the manager which I said I’m happy to wait for them to get the approval. I did ask if this new that the deposit is charged now rather than a hold, the receptionist said he was not sure and didn’t even make an effort to check with a supervisor. Having stayed in many hotels this was the first time I’d been charged for a deposit, I felt that this was not right. I did receive the refund of the $100 and credit card surcharge at checkout, however this was something that took time in checking out which could have been avoided. I do wonder how this is time efficient if this is done to every guest.

My experience at the Ibis Central in Melbourne was far from what you’d expect from a four-star hotel. Here's why:
• Not a Four-Star Standard: The amenities and services provided were far below the expectations for a four-star rating.
• Towels: Only two large towels for the shower and two tiny hand towels were provided—no face towels at all.
• Cleanliness: The bed sheets were never changed during my five-day stay, and the bed was made so poorly it felt unprofessional.
• Room Size: The room was a cramped 13 square meters, with no surface to place belongings. I had to use the ironing board as a makeshift shelf.
• Misleading Photos: The booking sites show photos of larger rooms (18 square meters). Be careful to check which room you’re actually booking.
• Minibar: The minibar was completely empty.
• Elevator Issues: The elevator worked sporadically—one time out of ten. Even worse, pressing the help button repeatedly yielded no response from staff.
• Breakfast: The takeaway breakfast was extremely poor—a juice box, a milk carton, and some cereal. The buffet breakfast was far from what you’d expect in a four-star hotel restaurant.
• Double Charges: The hotel charged my card twice for “card authorization” fees (nearly $12 in total), which were supposed to be refunded at checkout. Despite paying the full amount with another card, the fees were never returned to my account.
Overall, this hotel does not live up to its four-star rating. I cannot recommend it, as the experience was disappointing and frustrating on multiple levels.

We are on a 5 week tour of Australia and our itinerary was planned by Trailfinders. They booked our hotels. They have made a mistake with this one. It's described as a compact room. It would be compact for a single traveller but for two adults it is ridiculous. The "double bed" is no more than 4'6'' wide. One side has a small bedside table, the other is up against the curtains. It's impossible to get out of bed that side without drawing the curtains. There us hardly any room to hand clothes. The available drawers are largely filled with a hairdryer and a safe. We were forced to live out of our two suitcases and they took up most of the remaining floor space. The shower was powerful but ran hot and cold. The sink is part of the room and is the main feature of the room. It's not easy to shave at right angles to the mirror or from about 3 feet away. They provide tea and coffee facilities but did not always replenish the milk. This resulted in a 16 floor descent in the lift to request more. In the end we gave up waiting and went out to eat. The milk did arrive but we found the fridge door open when we returned. The room was cleaned well and was fairly quiet. It would be OK for a single guest for a couple of nights stay but for two grown adults it was the pits. Location wise great.

Nice place, in between Southern Cross and Chinatown. Very close to Victoria Market. It shares the building with Novotel. Reception is at level 2. In room was comfortable. Basic amenities were provided including ironing. Room was cleaned punctually every morning. Hot shower was great. However that was pretty much what i liked.
Aircon was adjustable, but... it has a system where it readjusts back. I was quite irritated. Adjusted the heater temperature, then it went back down to a cold temperature. Imagine the repeated adjustments in the middle of the night. The shower door needed a rubber or silicone layer at the bottom. Water leaked through the space and flowed into the room. TV channels were pretty boring. Nothing to cater to international travellers. No movie or variety channels. What disappointed me more was the fact that, additional charge of $10 per day to use the gym. This was not told at check-in, but in email ans notification in one of the tv channels. Not sure how this was monitored. I had stayed in other Ibis/Novotel and using the in-house facilities were part of the stay package. For the room rate they charge, this does not make any sense.

Ibis is centrally located with lots of eateries around the area. Rooms are small and compact but good enough for two people. I like the wash basin which is located outside the bathroom as I can do my facial washing and stuff outside while my travel companion is using the bathroom. The only disappointment is that there wasn’t any soup or hand wash located at the wash basin,. However, overall I had a good stay.

I don’t know why people are complaining about the size of rooms when we all knew what they were like from the description before booking!! If you think these are small, you want to try Singapore🤣 Yes the room is compact but has everything you need for a short stay. Rooms serviced daily. All was good till our last evening when we arrived back to no body wash in the bathroom. Quick call to housekeeping and it was delivered to the room straight away 👍 Breakfast, well, what can you say. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast, in fact it’s been one of the best we’ve had on our travels. Something for everyone and the ‘egg station’ where anything egg is cooked to your liking and delivered to your table. Only one small complaint was when we had an early start for a tour and offered a breakfast box. Ok, something is better than nothing but it really wasn’t much. Plenty of people payed for breakfast on the day…sure it must have been cheaper to add it to the room when booking. Aircon and WiFi worked a treat. Would we stay here again. Yes.

Only $1 pre autho. No photo ID as it's check your self in via kiosk with first and last name. Tap debit or credit card with the circle on big screen, tap card at top of EFTPOS reader. Compact room. X14 is very quiet, no car noise. No desk. Enough for a basic one person stay even for few days, if you just need a place to sleep and put things down. Loo and shower basic but least its not opaque film on loo and shower. Granted some say it's too small, but for 1 with HLO it's OK. Ducted single ceiling aircond. Looks like double glazed. Has black out curtains. Sink is near bed tho. Will try to link a pix.

Located a five minure walk from Burke St Mall, walking distance to most attractions in the CBD including the Melbourne Markets. Rooms are around 19m2, ok for short stays, for longer stays would recommend their sister hotel the Novotel which is adjacent. The Ibis Melbourne Central is very clean and rooms are cleaned to a high standard. Small fridge, kettle, great RC AC, large TV and fast free wifi. Great shower with nice hot water. The bed is very comfortable and the rooms are nice and quiet, you will get a great nights sleep here. Breakfast is nothing less than 5 stars, fresh, a very large variety of items and made to a very high standard. Make sure you book with breakfast included, you will thank me for this. My new go-to Melbourne hotel, will definitely stay here upon my return. I hope this review is helpful : )
