I had heard good things about Flinders but when I got there I discovered it was a pretty average hostel. The free breakfast was good but other than that you have to pay for WiFi everywhere, my room was so messy when I arrived with a sign on the door saying the other tenants needed to clean it but no...

Full of kids living there permenantly, who abuse the free food (e.g. Breakfast) by stashing it away for themselves to eat throughout the rest of the day/week. We didn't get any food at the free meal night - it ran out within 20 minutes because people took 3 helpings and filled large plastic containers with further portions. Staff were distributing...

The hostel is fine, but the service is really bad. I stayed here for 2 weeks in total but I never received my free internet. Explanation was, that I had to book one week in total, which I did, but they were full so I had to change rooms. That's bad. But breakfast is good and the rooms are fine.

I came here with veeeery low expectations as people I had met elsewhere warned me that this hostel wasn't very good. I liked my stay more than I anticipated, but was it the best hostel I've ever stayed in? Not so much. The staff were all friendly. One of the girls even gave me recommendations of things to see while...

Most of the staff were super friendly, hostel rooms were very clean. Met loads of great people here and the pool table is awesome. Has an attached bar with very cheap drinks. All in all I would definitely stay here again.

I booked 3 nights at flinders in the hope of meeting some fellow travellers in Melbourne. The location was good in the sense that it is within walking distance to Melbourne central (10 mins) and there is a tram stop outside but it can be a bit daunting walking back alone at night if you're a female solo traveller(maybe that...

We spent 3 nights at Flinders while traveling through Melbourne and had a nice stay. We had a private room which was a bit on the expensive side but we wanted some privacy. Staff was friendly and helpful especially letting me know when my luggage was delivered from not making onto our connecting flight. I would recommend a stay at...

I felt very optimistic when coming here but became more and more disappointed throughout my stay. What I will say is that the location is very very good, and made my time in Melbourne exploring the city very easy. As well as this, in comparison to other reviews below, I actually found the staff to be very friendly and pleasant...

I stayed at Flindlers for 6 nights and it was pretty unbearable. The hostel was just ok, Fans in the room didn't provide enough air to make up for the 40 degree heat, but we managed just fine with nice roommates in a 4 bed dorm. However the real mess started when someone pulled a sprinkler out of the roof....

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
