Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I made my booking through Qantas Hotels, and it is included the parking as the email shows. They don’t believe I paid for it and did not let my room card access to the car park. No one was in the reception and no one wants to fix the problem just keep sending me to other person. They don’t know what they are doing. Great location ,room was just ok. Management and check-in arrangement is terrible. NOT RECOMMEND!

I accidentally left property at the hotel. The hotel offered to return it to me, but it was never sent. It has been attest a month of waiting, and a quite a few phone calls but they are yet to return my property or return my phone calls. Staff are generally unhelpful, or unwilling to undertake simple customer communication.

This property definitely has some positives. The price is cheap for an apartment and it's very close to Box Hill Central and pretty close to Box Hill Hospital. The staff were able to get us in to our room early which was also very handy. The negatives, the amenities feel cheap, the double bed was made up of 2 single mattresses pushed together, and the mattresses were very thin. The couch was the same it just felt cheap and poor quality. The other negative with this property was the odor in the corridor which smelt like a mixture of cigarettes and stale cooking smells, although within the apartment we were in there was no odor so that was a positive. If you need somewhere for a short stay in and around Box Hill this property is quite ok, but be realistic about what you are expecting at the price point

The whole facility was run down, dirty and just tired looking. Nothing at all like the photos on the website. Rubbish on the front steps, dirty glass front doors, but the main problem was the room. The walls were covered in marks and dirt, but primarily the worst thing was the overwhelming smell of the room. It stank like someone had been chain smoking in there for years and even with the aircon going and balcony door wide open, nothing would dissipate the horrible stench. It was almost enough to make me vomit.

Stayed here for a night during business travels across Vic. Had chosen this place for location and because it had a washer and dryer. Firstly check in required a bond, as I had paid in full and no mention was made on the extensive contract between myself and the 3rd party website, this was a bit weird... Studio room was very small and tv couldn’t be watched from bed, or from the lounge without some extensive contortionist behaviour. Toilet had faecal remnants from previous guests, and long black hairs in it... Washer is a European washer/dryer combo, no instruction manual, however was and dry took 3 hours... that’s a lot of energy!! On street parking is a nightmare, and I refuse to pay another $15 or so (15% extra on top of accommodation) for a car park suburbia. Car park was almost empty, so I am not the only one thinking this. Anyway, something I rarely say, but I wouldn’t return here again.

Response from Poppy H, General Manager at City Edge Box Hill Apartment Hotel
Responded 17 Oct 2019
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide your review. I'm very disappointed to read that overall your stay wasn't an enjoyable one, especially the cleanness of the bathroom. I have raised your feedback to our housekeeping team, and I can assure you action has been taken. Regarding the bond, we do mention it on the 3rd party websites, and nowadays most of the hotel will take the bond. I hope you can understand it. And the instruction manuals are put on the kitchen wall in each room, and our staff is pleased to help guest to solve any problems if you need. I apologise again that we didn't meet your expectations and I do hope that you will give us a chance in the future so we can show you the true standard of our hotel. Kind Regards Steven Assistant Manager

A ‘deposit’ of $100 was demanded even though I had already paid in full. I was assured that this would be returned in a few days. That was a week ago, and I am still waiting. Don’t trust these people, don’t stay here, don’t do business with them. I never will again!

The room was generally spacious. However, it was not very clean - there are dirt on the table, stains on the bed and the kettle was leaking. Overall, a reasonable price for the size of the room but cleanliness can be improved.

Loved staying at Apartment 108 for 4 nights. The good: Balcony- overlooking large carpark and north facing so perfect amount of sunshine. Split system aircon - I wl stayed during a hot period and felt cool and comfortable. Spacious- chose 2 bedroom which suited my needs. Full kitchen with utensils- I love the freedom to cook whilst away and will always choose an apartment over studio. Undercover secure parking- complete with stacker parking bays. New experience for me and spot on instructions from Ailine. Elevator-handy. Quiet- could be the time of year. Perhaps more university students and hospital staff stay throughout the year being close to Box Hill Hospital and Institute. Comfortable bed- No more needs to be said. Great shower pressure - small but good heat and pressure. Washer/ Dryer combo - bring washing powder! Communication and after hours checkin were great. Felt very welcome at the apartment. Ample towels - BYO face washer. Second Wife Cafe on Wellington St - Tommy is awesome and makes great coffee! Tell him I said hi. What dulled my experience a little: The cleanliness of the apartment. I'm not OCD however the floors, windows and bench tops looked like they had been cleaned with the same cloth. The apartment is in good shape however the beautiful double glass floor to ceiling doors to the balcony were extremely dirty and an eyesore as were benches and nothing available to wipe them down. Kitchen utensils could do with an update. Little worn and flimsy however still functional. A dish cloth and cleaning cloth would be great as there was nothing to wipe down the bench tops especially after cooking. Would I stay again? Absolutely! Grateful for the space and loved my stay in Box Hill.

Only stayed one night to attend a work event nearby. The apartment was fine for what I needed but it was very noisy. Another apartment was partying until 1.30am - it was a Monday night so I wasn't expecting that. The location of the TV and lounge is a bit odd but for one night I didn't care. It was clean and the bed was comfortable and it had everything I needed for such a short stay. I didn't have a car with me but you do need to book that in and pay for it.
