Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Reminds me of great grandma’s musky outdated place. The carpet was stained, Furniture old and worn. Wallpaper peeling off the walls. Hideous paintings on the walls. Bedding very dated. Grout and sealant missing in the bathroom. Not a prude by any extent, but could not stay here. Seriously needs some money spent on this establishment. When my concerns were brought to the attention of the staff, their reply was, “It’s a 150 year old hotel”. Obviously. Not worth the money asked for the low quality of the place.

Older motel which could do with refurbishment. Quiet location but within driving distance of waterfront. Good views of Mt Wellington and the ocean. Good for parking and good location for exploring the city

Accommodation was basic but clean. Living space was well sized and the kitchen had everything we needed. We couldn't quite figure out the opening hours for reception as it was often closed when we went to either to check something or get the key to use the laundry. In a good location with a handy corner store nearby.

Decor and furniture dated from before my parents were born with an old, musty smell throughout room. Obviously in need of maintenance with water damaged in the cupboards and showing on the ceilings, wallpaper peeling all amongst other things. Price did not reflect the condition of the room and amenities provided.

Very sad, outdated room . Looked like nothing had changed since 1970 … or perhaps since 1960? 1950? Not particularly clean. The carpet needed vacuuming and bathroom tile grouting dirty . However, friendly service at reception and the room was large.

It use to be run by 2 lovely old ladies and was such a grand building. Now the carpet is black from dirt wall paper falling of walls and a owner who wants zero interaction with the guests.(Covid) Basically money needs to be spend on the rooms and good clean up would help.Location is excellent, walking distance to the city Centre. Several Restaurants and watering holes near by.

I have stayed here a few times, it is very good value, the rooms I have stayed in are a little dated, the carpet is old, a little peeling on the wallpaper, but it is still a pleasant enough stay. The bed is quite comfortable, no air con but still warm.

We booked two nights in April. We could smell the room before the door was fully open! Body smells, dirty smells, old stained carpet smells! The furniture was ancient, worn and not clean looking. The bed cover had holes and looked like a dog blanket. It felt like a marshmallow and I didnt dare look at the mattress to check if it was clean. The carpet was badly stained all over and the bathroom needed renovating 20 years ago. We felt awkward but couldnt stay there so chatted pleasantly with reception who admitted the room did small and they had another rom with a new carpet and new mattress. The new room did not smell as bad but the carpet was stained worse than the first. The bathroom was ancient and melamine pealing and missing in parts. We simple couldnt bring ourselves to stay there and asked for a refund [eve if just for one night]. We did not get a refund and the owner stobbornly kept referring us to Booking.com for our problem. They emailed her that night and she never replied to them. Reading reviews later I saw that at some time the place was used as a brothel, maybe that explains the copious stains. We ended up paying 2 nights accomodation and booked elsewhere. I telephones the owner and asked why she didnt reply to booking.com so we could get a refund, suddenly her english wasnt as good as it was when we met!! She didnt offer anything. I suggested she use our money to buy a new bedspread! My only regret was that I was so shocked by the state of the room I forgot to take pictures to share with you.
