The Alabama is a small art-filled hotel offering boutique budget rooms in the heart of Hobart. Please note that all rooms have shared bathrooms, there are no rooms with a private or en suite bathroom. If this is not your style, we understand, but please be aware of this before staying and / or reviewing. Each room has a small fridge, a heater, hanging space for your clothes and a fan for warmer weather. Hobart is rarely hot, air-conditioning is not needed here. Even on that rare hot day, the city cools down at night and the windows open to let in a breeze. It is perfectly safe to have a window open at night while you sleep. Tea and coffee is available to purchase from reception, which is open from 8am - 9pm daily. There are no tea making facilities in the rooms. Our inner city location means we do not have off street parking. Unless you're planning a longer trip through Tasmania we wouldn't recommend hiring a car for your stay at the Alabama as inner city parking costs do add up.

Loved this hotel! Staff were so friendly and gave us loads of advice for our trip. The rooms were great, beds super comfy. No issues at all with having communal bathrooms, they were clean and showers were hot, never had to wait to use them. The lounge area was great too, very cosy and a great selection of local drinks on offer. Felt like home from home. We will definitely be staying here when we come back to Hobart!

You know that you are onto something special when the moment you got to the front door, there's display of a rainbow flag sticker and a large rainbow flag defiantly flapping in the wind. You went up the stairs and that's when it hit you, whimsical and quirky décor that's both outrageous and yet, so inviting at the same time. The cushions of Bill Murray, glasses of John Lennon but with the face of a cat, decorative art transformed from used skateboards are some of the oddities here. They are so wrong, and yet, so right at the same time. Kelly, the host is gracious and despite that we arrived early, she got us into our room the moment the Housekeepers were done with our room. WiFi here is reliable and strong. To give you an idea of the clientele that stays here, we came…

I chose Alabama Hotel for my last accommodation in Tasmania. It's a quirky hotel with some vintage decoration. Alabama Hotel is located so close to Woolworths, where I bought my snack supplies from. I parked my car at the 24 hr parking place which was about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. As I walked up the stairs at the hotel, I could see some hanging flamingos and a cafe. The reception desk was located inside the cafe area. Alamaba Hotel also has a balcony with some tables and chairs to hang out at. I was given a handmade soap and a towel, enough amenities for my two days stay. They also prepare free water at the corridor that I could bring to my room. The room was really cozy with a heater, fan, and a working desk. One of the most important things for me is the number of…

We’re repeat visitors from Melbourne and just love so many of the Alabama’s features. Location is a joy - so close to Criterion Street ( for brekkie) and an easy stroll to the waterfront. Beds are so comfy and shared bathrooms not a problem. And...because it’s so affordable we spend our savings on great places to eat! (Looking at you, Agrarian Eatery!!) We’ll be back for sure!

The welcome was really friendly and enthusiastic. The hotel is loaded with art, including individualised art in each room. It was really clean, including the bathroom, and permeated by a fresh pine-like scent. Comfortable bed. Room relatively small, consistent with the price. Chilled out common areas. Note: no cooking facilities. There are 2 things that might put people off (but IMHO should not) - shared bathrooms and no room AC. I've stayed some sumptuous places with shared bathrooms, often because it's a restored antique building, and I would happily share a bathroom in exchange for such an inspiring pace to stay. And AC is rarely needed in Hobart! The cost was hardly more than a no-frills backpackers. This delightful, relaxed hangout seemed like how affordable travel…

Stayed here as a cheaper option than where our friends were staying. We definitely picked the best option! Awesome quirkiness, perfectly located, quiet & a great host. Would not look anywhere else for accommodation in Hobart. At checkout was amazed to find out the hotel had been fully booked for the 3 nights we had been there. Had only seen & heard a few other guests our entire stay. Loved all the different art work & furniture. It made the hotel a highlight of our trip. A real boutique hotel.

As a local I often visit the lounge for a romantic bev. Charming, full of interesting art and cosy places to sit. Great coffee, usually quiet and the staff are super nice. I wouldn't mind booking a room sometime!

Had the great pleasure of staying here for four night and highly recommend the Alabama. The staff are great and go oyt of their way to make sure you are accommodated. From the art work and Pink Flamingo's, the whole place had a great feel about it. Has shared bathrooms but that's not a problem and they are clean and tiny. Has a balcony to enjoy drinks and look over the inner city. Clise ti Elizabeth Mall so everything is in walking distance. Great hotel, do yourself a favour when in Hobart and stay here.

We stayed at the Alabama for four glorious nights. We received a very friendly greeting from Aiden when we arrived at 8.30 am, and were able to immedieately check in which was brilliant. The room was as neat as pin and very comfortable. There are shared bathrooms, but we never had to wait to use anything, and the bathrooms were spotless. If you're looking for a full service hotel, then this isnt the place for you, but if you're looking for a fantastic opportunity ot stay in a quirky and inviting place, then jump to it. All of the staff were extremely helpful, and nothing was a problem for them. The common lounge area is brilliant and the chese board and pickled vegetables is a must to try. Street parking is free after 6pm. If you're a bit early, and dont want to pay the…
