The Alabama is a small art-filled hotel offering boutique budget rooms in the heart of Hobart. Please note that all rooms have shared bathrooms, there are no rooms with a private or en suite bathroom. If this is not your style, we understand, but please be aware of this before staying and / or reviewing. Each room has a small fridge, a heater, hanging space for your clothes and a fan for warmer weather. Hobart is rarely hot, air-conditioning is not needed here. Even on that rare hot day, the city cools down at night and the windows open to let in a breeze. It is perfectly safe to have a window open at night while you sleep. Tea and coffee is available to purchase from reception, which is open from 8am - 9pm daily. There are no tea making facilities in the rooms. Our inner city location means we do not have off street parking. Unless you're planning a longer trip through Tasmania we wouldn't recommend hiring a car for your stay at the Alabama as inner city parking costs do add up.

We stayed at the Alabama Hotel for about a week and first we thought the shared bathrooms could be a small issue for us, but the shared facilities were clean and had no line-ups in the morning. Our room was small but very comfortable, clean and had everything you could ask for. The hotel 'living room' / public area and bar is fantastic and the staff is more than helpful and very nice. This hotel is highly recommended if you are on a budget and are after a fun and friendly environment to call home for a few days.

Tip: Woolsworth is a quick walk down the street. There are many shops there including a nail salon, coffee, and a liquor store. I like the glass bottled water they offered. Shower was hot. I never had to wait to use the shades bathroom. There are stairs, no elevator. The room was very spacious. It had a fan, fridge, plenty of lights, electrical outlets. I liked the main lobby area. WiFi worked well all over the building. The guests looked mature. It wasn’t a hostel vibe. It felt like a European hotel. Workers were very friendly. If you do selfies, check out all of the great walls in the hotel. They shoot nicely. If you arrive late, be sure to get the door code! They use WhatsApp. It saved my life when I realized I was flying into Hobart after 9 PM. The…

Had such a pleasant stay here, great value. Super funky interior, staff are incredibly friendly and offer great recommendations of places to eat, things to do etc. Room and shared bathroom were clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again! Wish I could have stayed longer to properly check out the bar at the reception/lounge and socialise.

if you can put up with a shared bathroom, this place is a terrific bargain. the rooms are quite large, it's clean, it's well located and there is a lovely public sitting area with a bar. The staff couldn't be nicer.

Lee and I stayed at the Alabama for 5 nights. Such an amazing building. Location is perfect for just about everything. The bar on the first floor kept us hydrated after our days out and revitalised us after a couple of big nights. The rooms are great. Plenty of character. But..... the staff are an absolute stand out. Made to feel totally at home by owners jimmy and Emma and their mate and colleague Sam. All who I now count among my mates. We ended up back there on our last night before leaving just to say see you soo . If you’re nice ,and get a chat going ,you may even get Sam to knock you up one of his killer bloody Marys. Lots a love D and L

I loved the Alabama! Firstly it was so clean! The lounge area was groovy enough that you’d actually want to hang out there with friends. Perfect location for us & friendly staff. Our twin room was a bit sparse - could have done with a chair and a small table, I mentioned this to staff and I’m sure they’ll sort it out, but otherwise it was excellent.

Very happy with our stay at the Alabama Hotel. Our room was clean, smelled lovely, although in mid-winter it was a bit cold. The bed was super comfortable, and the room equipped with all the basics (storage, a little desk and chair, a mirror, plus a fridge). The staff were fantastic and super helpful. Our room (#4) was quiet, and the only noise we heard was a very talkative malamute having a chat with guests one morning. Naturally we raced out and down to the communal area to give pats to the friendly and giant dogs. The bathrooms were clean and positioned close to the rooms. As other reviews have stated, if you want to wash your hair and you're over 175cm tall, it's a little uncomfortable under the shower heads. Otherwise the showers had good pressure and were toasty warm. …

Rooms look little like the picture. Shared showers and toilets. No parking except at night. Not very nice or efficient reception staff. Great location, clean sheets. We were glad to leave and will not return
