Welcome to Edinburgh Gallery Bed & Breakfast your "Home away from home", I'm John your host. Rated 3 1/2 star Edinburgh Gallery Bed & Breakfast offers moderately priced accommodation with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and free continental breakfast, right in the heart of Hobart easy walking distance from everything. My bed & Breakfast is in a grand Edwardian/Federation house built in 1908 and is full of retro furnishings. It has 9 spacious majestically proportioned rooms, five with ensuites and four with shared bathroom facilities. Throughout the building there are high ceilings, sweeping staircases and stacks of old world charm. Each room is individually decorated in a distinctive "hip-heritage" style and all rooms have a television, bar fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities. Since taking over the business in April 2014 I have provided new doonas and pillows, high standard professionally laundered linen as well as electric blankets all round and loads of spare blankets in the cupboard. Our breakfast room with adjoining cafe` is available throughout the day and night and is well stocked with a good range of cereals and breads (including gluten free), as well as fresh jams, honey and peanut butter from the local farmer's market. The breakfast room provides the opportunity to meet other guests and many a warm conversation has been had here in the relaxed "make yourself at home" atmosphere. Our guest lounge has television with DVD and a wide range of DVDs on hand. Free Wi-Fi is available. Paintings and interesting artifacts are on display throughout the house. There is free car parking behind the house so you can leave your car and explore the city on foot - the CBD and historic tourist precincts - SalamancaPlace and Market, Constitution Dock and Battery Point, the waterfront art and craft galleries and restaurants; the Museum and Art Gallery are all an easy walk. Its two minutes' walk to the Transit Centre and the Airport shuttle stops at the door. Edinburgh Galley B & B caters for couples, singles, families and is gay-friendly. Attractions Rated 3.5 star with 9 rooms, 10 minute walk from CBD, Salamanca Waterfront area, Museum, Art Gallery & Battery Point. Multiple restaurants nearby. Short drive to Mount Wellington, Cascade Brewery, Female Factory, Royal Botanical Gardens, Cadbury Chocolate Factory & MONA (Museum of Old & New Art). Central location makes it ideal to day trip to Port Arthur, Historic Richmond & Bruny Island Location From Airport proceed South towards Hobart along the Tasman Highway. Detailed Reviews
I have stayed here a few times over the years and look forward to going back this coming weekend. First time I shared the double room with a friend, subsequent stays were in the gorgeous non-ensuite queen room, this time will be the single room. This place has real atmosphere, I would even say gravitas, presence. There is something sublime about the building and the way in which it has been decorated, especially up the stairs and on the first floor. For significantly less than a new, modern hotel in the centre of town you can in my opinion enjoy a far cosier and warmer room than those cold, overpriced clone hotels. The appeal of which has never made sense to me and I regard this as a vastly preferable option. It is true, it's not for everyone but if you appreciate things with a bit more of a sense of culture and care for aesthetics then Edinburgh Gallery would be a good choice. Yes, the upstairs bathroom is a bit small and I am not that tall or large but it's still nice and cosy and that's a minor concern. The dining area downstairs is really nice as well.

The location was good for easy walk into Hobart and the harbour area also Cascades Brewery and The Female Factory. The road junction outside was noisy but did settle down later on. Breakfast was toast and cereal which seemed basic, you helped yourself to and then cleared up. Not quite what we'd expect from a b and b. We felt it was all a bit shabby and dated , however John our host was very friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed a two night stay here in June. Our spacious room was conveniently located on the ground floor on the Molle Street side. Although the weather was quite cold, we were warm and cosy with an in-room heater and electric blanket. We liked the quaint ambiance of the historic building and the interesting furniture and decor. The bathroom was old but functional and very clean.
Breakfast was well catered for with an extensive range of cereals, breads, spreads, milk and juices available to serve ourselves in the breakfast room. There are also facilities to heat and serve your own food.
John is an excellent host and obviously prepared to go the extra mile as he had to wait up late one night for some guests who hadn't arrived at the expected time.
Our only problem was the traffic noise from the intersection of Macquarie and Molle Streets. This continued until fairly late and night and started early in the morning. Other than that, a perfect stay.

First of all, John the host is a gem. I only stayed one night which is a shame in such a nice historic place. I only eat Corn Flakes for breakfast but it is nice that you can help yourself all the time. The rooms are beautiful - I like it old fashioned. I was worried about the noise of traffic as the windows are old but it soon quietend down.
There are not many sockets to load all the electronic gadgets we have nowadays but that is the way in an old house. I used the one for the kettle. I would stay again. It was in good walking distance to town.
Parking was not easy - it is best to park backwards and it goes uphill. I had a small car and there is a big crack just at the bottom, so I had to step on the gas quite heavily to get over it.

Edinburgh Gallery is a beautiful, quaint building with lots of history. The building is old, but is super clean. In fact, one of the cleanest places I have ever stayed.
John, the host, is delightful - welcoming, lovely to talk to and very helpful.
Our room came with everything we needed - towels, shampoo/soap, coffee and tea facilities, bar fridge, and a hair dryer, as well as heating, fan, and tv/DVD player.
Breakfast offers a great selection of cereals, breads and a variety of condiments as well as milk and juices. Fresh fruit is available to eat any time.
The B&B is a short downhill stroll to Salamanca Markets/MONA Ferry etc - about 10mins.
Very enjoyable stay, and we will be returning on our next trip to Hobart.

I had a lovely stay here. John, the owner, is very welcoming and helpful. There is a well stocked kitchen that guests are free to use and includes breakfast and fresh cookies. All beds are equipped with electric blankets, and there are DVDs that guests can borrow. The accommodation is walking distance to the waterfront, the city, the botanical gardens, and more. Thanks for a great stay!

We had a lovely 7 night stay here. John is such a lovely host , with suggestions of what to do and where to go. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean. With a walk in robe which was a bonus!! The bathroom looked newly renovated.. All rooms are different, the building was a maternity hospital in its early days, very quirky. .. Its walking distance to town and Constitution dock. We did a lovely walk along the Hobart Rivulet looking for platypus.... no luck this time... ended up at the Cascade Brewery. A bonus at the B&B was the all day breakfast which we thought was well organised and very generous. A selection of breads, cereals, teas, coffee, juices and condiments were available. We would highly recommended Johns place as others have done. It was a lovely chance to meet other travellers from all over the world.

I really do not like ever to give a less than great review, but I am afraid noise is bothersome for me. The building is on a very busy corner - Macquarie Street and Molle St in Hobart. All day and night there is noise from traffic and from the pedestrian lights on the corner. I imagine the only thing the host could do is to install double glazing on the windows to mute the traffic din.
The beds were very comfortable, there was a continental breakfast provided - serve yourself and one could eat as much as was desired. There is no lift and stairs sre a necessity so for a disabled person it would be very difficult to navigate. Parking is good however, which is a big plus in Hobart and the location is close to everything.

John was welcoming and friendly
The room was pretty spacious and clean with and old world feel. Bed was very comfy with nice quality linen and perfect mattress.
It was a chilly time of year but the heaters kept up and room was comfortably warm
We did get some road noise as the building in on a busy road but nevertheless we would definitely stay here again.

Being a town of only 200,000 people the road quietens down at night but is busy in the day we are in the middle of town, There is a bus stop outside but it is only a 10 minute walk to the heart of the CBD and the waterfront. The airport shuttle will drop you right to the door, cheers John
The room we had was on the ground floor as you walk in from the front door. It was twin share with private bathroom. From the back door car park, it was up one flight of stairs. John will be able to help with your question too. Just use the contact form on his website.
