Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Cascade has a sensational menu with really great food! It’s good value. The staff are super efficient and friendly. Highly recommend for a family/friends night out. I had the eye fillet tonight and couldn’t get it any better in a high flying Melbourne restaurant. I know where I’d rather be….

We stayed in a motel unit attached to the hotel for 6 nights in January. The unit was a very clean and spacious 2 bedroom unit with a very well equipped kitchen and bathroom. It was very conveniently located for our needs and would be superb for anyone wanting a longer stay, especially if they were needing to visit the hospital right next door. The unit was very quiet and relaxing.
The car park was safe and had plenty of spaces.
The hotel is located on a regular bus route into the CBD. it is about a 20 minute walk into the CBD either following the roads or along a very scenic walkway. The walkway is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel.Once on the walkway you can either walk into the city or in the other direction to the Cascade Brewery.
The staff were very friendly. We found the meals at the hotel to be very good value.

Beware everyone!, long gone are the days where one could get a good counter meal here. My wife sent her raw!! well done ordered steak back only to be told by a very rude young dark haired waitress that the cook said because you have tried it we cant help you.. ok but how about bringing it back out from the kitchen so i could atleast look as though i had something to eat, while we dined. On complaint to Leigh the manager he still allowed my wife no offer other than a $10 refund on a $23 order!!. Please everyone do yourself a big favour and dine somewhere else as you will be dissapointed trust us. thanks mat

Affordable and comfortable, the Cascade Hotel is my favourite place to stay in Hobart. The 2-bedroom apartments are unbelievable value. Clean and comfortable. The management is friendly and the pub next door is fantastic for a meal and a drink while mixing with the locals. It's about 2.5km from the city centre but the bus stops right outside the front door. Located in the low-key suburb of South Hobart, it is a real local's local.

My husband and I caught the town bus to the Cascade Brewery to do a tour, afterwards we walked down the hill looking for a Cafe to eat at, we came across the pub, and as it was around 1pm my husband suggested we go to the pub. Great choice, had the Friday special which was rump, salad and chips which was $12. Genorous serving and cooked just how I like it. The hotel bistro had a great choice of food and a vegetarian option. Family friendly with a childrens menu, can get busy so you may need to book a table. Went back for dinner on Sunday night and it was packed, had the catch of the day which was Salmon $18.95 and my husband had the rump which was around $20.00. I noticed that they also accepted shop a dockets. Great value meals and not far from the centre of Hobart. Great for lunch or dinner, you will not leave hungry!

I cannot understand how anyone could say that this place is romantic. The unit had not been cleaned. Light fittings broken . The sheets had been slept in. All in all the worst hotel we stayed in our trip to Tasmania.

Went a few times in a short period for their counter teas. Always busy and really dumb ordering system resulted in a long queue to order. Meals were either average or poor. Steaks ok,salads ok, soups and stews were never what they were named and staff all looked bored and over it. Poor atmosphere and I score it 3 out of 10.

We went to the Cascade hotel on a public holliday in Tasmania, I had heard from several people the counter meals were really good and that I really should take the time to check it out.

Well we did.

Maybey being a public holiday the cook might have had a day off,

All i know is the meal i received was horrible.

My mixed grill consisted of a grizzly little piece of lamb, I think it was some pork, half was fat and inedible and a piece of steak.
fried egg and cabbage, sweet potato slices and baked i think potato.

Anyone who has ever had over boiled cabbage which has been re boiled the following day and takes on that horrible colour would not be disappointed, nor would they be disappointed with the stodgy sweet potato slices and hard undercooked baked (i think) potato.

A week after my experience at the Cascade Hotel, I found out the cook/chef had left the hotel a couple of months ago and is now working at the Dr Syntax hotel in Sandy bay, which incidentally is getting good reviews locally for their meals.

To the Cascade hotel....Invest in a good cook and stop losing business.
