Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Great location easy to walk Salamanca and The cove docks. Friendly service, large quiet room with comfy bed. View to Mt Wellington was a bonus. Love the history of the building and the grandeur of the lounge. We didn’t get to eat here this time. We highly recommend Lenna

The Lenna is a beautiful, classy hotel. In a great location! The room was large, the beds are very comfortable, and the staff was friendly. We enjoyed wine in the lounge during happy hour , a generous pour. The location is terrific, we walked to Salamanca Place, the Tasmanian Museum, and Mawson’s Huts. Loved the ice creamery on the pier too. Also walked to restaurants in Battery Point. We highly recommend the Lenna!

We stayed in a harbour-facing family suite for one week. It was a thoroughly relaxing and comfortable stay in a beautiful hotel that combined classiness with a bit of old-world charm. Spacious rooms, gorgeous view, lovely quiet location, and an easy walk to Salamanca Place as well as the awesome eateries on Hampden Road. Most importantly, Lenna provided free on-site parking. Would definitely stay again!

We chose to stay at Lenna for our last-minute trip to Tasmania as some friends highly recommended it and we were not disappointed! The main house is absolutely stunning! Great customer service and facilities. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It had everything needed for a long weekend and the daily replenishment of essentials (tea/coffee/sugar) was a bonus. The location is ideal, nested at the top of the Salamanca area, we enjoyed the free parking at the hotel and walked pretty much everywhere! Highly recommended for a romantic and calm getaway. Enjoy a glass of wine in the garden or one of their delicious gins in the historical lounge!

We stayed in a family room at Lenna, and the whole experience was perfect. We have views of the waterfront, explored the lookout nook in the hotel, and were able to walk almost everywhere. It's perfectly situated right at the end of Salamanca Market, so an easy walk to all the shops and piers, but also off the street enough to be quiet and un-hectic. Plus, an easy walk to the lovely little cafe's on the other (less touristy) side of the hill. The hotel is also beautiful. While the room itself was simple, it was clean, beds comfy (kids thought they were too soft, but slept very well), and the set up was great for us. And rather genius to have it look out on the beautiful old building, so it jsut felt like everywhere you looked it was lovely. Staff was so helpful - it was an easy and wonderful stay.

Disappointed to see this grand old lady turn to something much less. No longer is there any atmosphere, and any charm that once was has turn to tawdriness. Paying over $320 per night perhaps you would expect the breakfast table to be set, or at least cleaned. I felt for the waitress working this shift - clearly underprepared and overwhelmed. Despite her being so very lovely. The bar had two happy hours per evening which was super but the trouble is, it never looked open. Unlit and with dirty tables , it did not entice anybody to stop in. The reception staff doubled as bar staff and had much more success in the reception role. There was of course, the mini-bar. Usual prices but $4 for a bottle of water? Check the room rate above. I have stayed in the Lena many time spanning 13+ years, but this stay is my last. I don’t mind spending money, but the value is no longer here.

Response from Justin Geddes, Owner at Lenna of Hobart
Responded 26 Dec 2023
Dear 599christinea, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences from your recent stay at the Lena Hotel. We appreciate your longstanding patronage over the past 13 years and sincerely apologize for falling short of your expectations on this particular occasion. We do apologise for the level of service your received at breakfast on Christmas morning. As one of the only places open that morning we were somewhat overwhelmed with the level of business and rest assured this is not our normal level of service. Thank you for the feedback on our breakfast staff and we will ensure this is shared with them. We apologise also for the service you experienced in our bar one night. This has been discussed with the relevant staff in order to improve the level of service. We run a very small bar, looked after by our reception team and we trust you enjoyed the other nights that you were able to utilise this area. Thank you again for the feedback and we apologise that the service received at sometimes during your stay was not up to our usual standard. Sincerely

The bed is too soft & quite old with no back support. It is difficult to have a good night's rest in that bed & with the air conditionner noises. The room smelt like mould. The unlevelled floors make it hard to move heavy luggage.

Despite this hotel's good location and historical significance, I can not recommend it. After a full day out we returned to find our hotel room door open, the room unvacuumed, and surfaces uncleaned. Fortunately, we had stored our belongings in our locked suitcases. Still, given that anyone can access the hotel through the car park entrance (room key not required during the daytime) bypassing the lobby and any potential oversight our luggage and carry-ons could have been wheeled out in a matter of minutes. The manager offhandedly dismissed my concerns further letting me know that I had made the wrong choice to stay here. Hobart has many fine hotels so I'd advise staying elsewhere. The city is wonderful with a beautiful waterfront and excellent restaurants. I'd recommend "Frank" and the "Lounge by Frogmore Creek" restaurants--excellent meals, service, and views.
