Well worth booking a Heritage Suite if possible, lovely big rooms, huge bedroom, lounge room, dining area and for me the all important balcony. I really liked that the bathroom and toilet were in separate rooms, both with separate hand basin’s, which is an added bonus. There’s plenty of cupboards and draws. 2 TV’s, one in the lounge room and one in the bedroom. The continental breakfast is included in the room rate which is very good, but for $9.95 you can add on a delicious hot breakfast, well worth it. Happy hour in the bar is 5 to 6 Mon to Friday. Beer $5 Cocktail $10, excellent value. I highly recommend staying here, the location is close to the waterfront and city.

We arrived at about 10:30 am on Friday after 3 flights from the Uk without stopovers and we were greeted by exceptional staff who understood that we just wanted to get to our room and get our bearings. Without requesting it we got an early check which made all the difference. Our room was lovely - on the front facing the Church with a small balcony, everywhere was clean and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and the food was good. We usually spent a couple of hours in the bar each evening before bed and it was especially good when the pianist was playing, he was really worth listening to rather than just background music. There was a good selection at breakfast with hot and cold choices as well as items cooked to order. Our rate included breakfast so we both ordered poached eggs. Now this is my only gripe and why I knocked off a star, it is also a simple one to remedy. The plates were cold when they brought out our order, the food was hot but the eggs soon became cold and unappetising. When we saw the cooked items we decided we would have a selection from the hot buffet but again the stack of plates was cold so the same thing happened. I decided to pre-place my plate on a shelf above the hot buffet which improved the situation. In hindsight I should have mentioned this at the time but we were so pleased with the rest of the hotel. The location is great to get to everything and very handy for the Friday evening food stalls and live music on Franklin Square.

I stayed for just one night midweek and would happily have stayed for much, much longer. Hadley's has character to spare.

The open rooms downstairs shared by all guests - bar, conservatory dining area, foyer with lovely seating, and dining room, are all very welcoming and just as you see them in the pics.

I had thought that perhaps my room might be a bit humdrum, with the old fashioned red carpets and bedding. But actually it was more than fine. It was a good size, and my private bathroom was lovely. Everything was spotlessly clean, and there's a good selection of complimentary snacks and drinks as well as more that you can buy if you're feeling a bit piggie. My window overlooked rooftops and air conditioning units, but let in the sun too. And it was a sash window which I was able to open for some Hobart mountain air.

I ate there and there was absolutely no fuss about accommodating me without my having booked, and the food was delicious - it might not be quite up to fine dining restaurant standard, in that it was rice, salmon and vegetables, but it was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious.

The wine list is superb. I had the best glass of Pinot Noir I've ever had, from Dalrymple Vineyards, and a nice chat with the man working the bar.

The best thing about Hadley's beyond all this is the staff. They cannot do enough for you. They're obliging, nothing is too much trouble, and yet they are still discreet and don't bother you, but will have a chat that seems real and genuine if you are in the mood.

All this, plus a standout deal (I booked direct, recommended), with breakfast included and free parking, in the city centre.

I'd stay at Hadley's again no question, and am wondering about bringing my family for a city break. We've always gone for self catering accommodation somewhere, but this would be a real treat.

Overall a lovely stay in a beautiful heritage listed building, and we would stay here again.
We Stayed in a spa suite on the couples special which included parking ,Wi-Fi ,bottle of sparkling, cheese platter and continental buffet breakfast.
Room was large with a separate bedroom and living area.
bathroom was clean and spacious but we didn’t get time to try the corner spa bath.
Hot & cold great water pressure but very touchy and water kept going cold and had to play with the faucets to get the temp right.Continental buffet breakfast was a little average but we upgraded to hot breakfast which was very nice. All of the staff were very helpful ,friendly and efficient, and even loaned us a charging plug as we had brought the cord but forgot the plug.

We stayed in Hadley's for one night, in one of the heritage rooms on the first floor facing Murray Street. The lift made it very easy to get our luggage to the room. The room itself was beautiful: full of Victorian grandeur and super high ceilings. The furnishings were appropriate for the period of the building and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was probably last updated in the early 1990s, but was functional and very clean. Would love to see the bathrooms updated in a modern take on Victorian or English style to complement the beautiful room (see Bovey Castle Hotel in England for inspiration).

The staff, particularly in the bar and restaurant were excellent. They were very attentive, made excellent recommendations and were very friendly and professional. While at the restaurant, the staff remained attentive and accommodating all the way through.

The food at the restaurant was very tasty and great quality. Also good value for money.

The included breakfast had good buffet style selections, although we opted to order hot breakfasts from the menu for an extra $10 each.

The location of the hotel itself is great as it's close to the waterfront and the shopping centre. The only (minor) downside (not at the fault of the hotel) was that as we stayed on a Friday night, we could hear noisy people out on the street drinking until after midnight. There was secondary glazing on all the windows and seals around the balcony door, but unfortunately the noise was still a little annoying when trying to get to sleep. If you're a light sleeper you may want to request a room towards the rear of the building.

We would definitely recommend Hadley's Orient Hotel and look forward to staying again next time we're in Hobart.

I loved everything about this property, except for the sadly mediocre breakfast. You are offered the usual continental breakfast staples like bread, tea, coffee, jam and butter, but also offer a 'hot' breakfast at an extra cost. The extra cost for their hot menu was decently priced, to be fair, but I had expected at least eggs to be a part of the breakfast.

The staff was very eager to see if my room was ready ahead of time and had a very courteous demeanor. Parking was discounted and helpful to have, though it was located on a very high floor a little away from the hotel itself. Location is excellent and not far from anything in the CBD.

Room did not have lighting on the room but our small room didn't really need any. It was, however, quite cold inside.

Our stay began with a warm welcome on a blustery winter's afternoon -- and all staff we dealt during our four-night stay were friendly, helpful and efficient. Although our corner room on the second floor did not have much of a view (it faced the back of buildings on Macquarie St, I think, rather than St Davids), it was a good size, the bed was comfortable, and the housekeeping was generous with replacement toiletries. The continental breakfast was also generous, a good choice of cereals, muesli, yogurts, and fruit, as well as the usual juice, toast/pastries and tea/coffee and we were quite happy with our one evening meal in the elegant dining room, The hotel location is perfect. A gentle stroll down to the waterfront or to the CBD shopping strip. We loved our stay here, and will certainly return.

Don’t expect anything very fancy at this family owned hotel but do expect the place to have plenty of character plus excellent staff who are friendly and helpful.

We had a Superior room with Queen bed for which we paid AUD177 per night. The room was spacious with extra blankets and pillows, free WiFi, a mini bar, safe, tea/coffee making, large flat screen TV and a hair dryer. There was also a writing desk plus two extra chairs and a table. The rooms are cleaned daily but the carpets were a bit jaded, however that was the only thing I could fault.

The hotel is located near to the main shopping area and only five minutes walk from either the harbour or the popular Salamanca market. The airport bus stop is only 350 metres away but be prepared to be woken at 09:15 on Sunday by the cathedral bells.

Overall I would use this hotel again for it’s convenient location and great customer service.

The Hadley Orient Hotel is now in my top 5 favorite hotels. I reserved the hotel because I thought the rates were very competitive with other hotels in the area. As soon as I entered the hotel I was so impressed. It reminded me of a classical London hotel but without the pretentiousness and high costs. Beautiful meeting and dining rooms, a lovely comfortable bar. Our room was so comfortably spacious. They serve a reasonably priced breakfast buffet (at extra charge or can be included in special offers.) They also offer dinner and afternoon high tea. All the staff I encountered were courteous and helpful. In addition, the location is perfect just a five minute walk to the Quay and the fantastic Salamanca Market, and many interesting Aussie pub. From what I understand this hotel was in disrepair for many years and was purchased in 2013 by Don Neil. He must have invested a great deal of money in returning it to its past splendor. He should be very proud of his accomplishment.
