I wasn’t sure what to expect. There are lots of hotel options in the area so we chose one that was priced in the middle and seemed to have reasonable reviews. Upon arriving I was pleasantly surprised with our choice. The lobby is huge but inviting. Check in was easy and staff were lovely. We paid extra for the harbour view rooms which I would highly recommend. It’s a beautiful harbour with plenty to look at. The rooms are quite large and although a little older they were well laid out and functional. Unfortunately we were caught in the Hobart 3 day snap lockdown. The hotel couldn’t have been more helpful at this difficult time. They quickly produced a great room service menu, negotiated a great rate for those needing to extend their stay and all done within an hour or two of the announcement. It was all handled extremely well. On the first night of lockdown they came around with a drinks trolley with a free drink for everyone and popcorn. Again, a lovely touch and extremely thoughtful. The location of the hotel is wonderful and I find it hard to fault anything. We will be coming back to Hobart in a few months to do all the things we missed and I wouldn’t stay anywhere else…

My wife and I stay here any time we visit Hobart. The rooms are always tidy, clean and comfortable and the staff are excellent. The food in the restaurant is delicious and the price was reasonable. We recommend a room with a view of the beautiful Hobart Harbour. The hotel is in a great location, only minutes from the harbour and the CBD.

Amazing stay from the moment we drove in, until we left 4 days later. Nothing was a problem for staff, the food and accommodation were amazing. Rooms were spotless and had everything we needed. Convenient to the harbour, restaurants and a short walk into town. Cannot fault a thing— highly recommended! We have already booked a return stay!

We work a busy business locally and live on site. When we walk outside we are at work We come to the chancellor every month just about for a few days solitude and escape the voices in our head telling us we have more to do outside, regardless of weather or time of day It’s quiet. The staff are friendly. I would love here if I could. The location is perfect. I prefer the mountainside as I enjoy watching the traffic and city life ( coming from a farm ). But I equally enjoy the Harbourside ans will often swap to get a differing view. The room service is always great and the room service do an awesome job. S When we bring our children they love the pool and as a family it’s an ok activity even when we are weary. We can’t speak high enough of our time here. Every time we have enjoyed ourselves and felt relaxed and ready to go face our daily life owning a large equestrian facility. Thank you staff for always finding us a room at short notice. Giving us space to clear our heads and thank you Hobart. What a truly beautiful city in Australia. Like no other. It’s beauty is in the steep history it bears is humbling and interesting. Can’t speak highly enough for our time here in the city. And we’ve tried countless others just for funsies and always come back here to the Grand Chancellor when we feel defeated by our schedule High regards Kaylene & Rick Cartledge From Jeu de Cheval Hobart Horseplay Richmond/Tea Tree Tasmania

Overall, this was quite a good hotel. Service was efficient and friendly and the room was modern, clean and generally well appointed. The reception/bar/restaurant area looking over to the waterfront is very light, bright and pleasant to be in. Needless to say, the location is very convenient to most things that Hobart has to offer. The only things that dragged it down was the shower bath (which really doesn't do a hotel of that calibre justice) and the road noise coming through the window. Even being on the 18th floor didn't seem to stop quite a bit of outside noise coming through. Having said that, we will certainly consider staying there again, especially if we're able to secure a room at a reasonable rate (sub-$200/night).
