The Macquarie Manor is quite a unique place to stay. The location is extremely central and whilst on a busy street, it was remarkably quiet at night. We were located in a basement room, which may not suit everyone, but it was spacious and we slept well. The building is a heritage listed with massive rooms that were converted to hotel rooms, some years ago, I think, so the fit out of the rooms seems a bit dated and jaded, however it was comfortable and affordable. The most charming aspect of this hotel and what distinguishes it from a more modern and standard hotel experience is the hospitality. Matt, who seemed to be in charge, undertaking reception duties to barista to cultural guide was so genuinely friendly, helpful and engaging with the guests. He remembered guests name and guests clearly liked chatting with him. So whilst the building has a eclectic and perhaps dated interior, the warmth and genuine hospitality of Matt superseded any minor inconveniences. If you are looking for a more personal experience in a grand old heritage building within a few minutes of the Salamanca area and an included breakfast to start the day with, this may well suit you.

Wow! This was a really nice way to end our trip to Tasmania. The hotel is on a very bust street, but you cannot hear any traffic - or at least I did not. We we're on the third floor.( No elevator.)
We were later checking in than the desk was open, but we were given a code to get our key. Worked perfectly.

There is parking in a very tiny lot for $20/day. After walking around that seemed like a decent deal.
The room was nice. It had loads of space. There was a couch and a desk too. The very high ceilings made it appear even larger.
Fridge and the breakfast beverage set up too.
This room included a continental breakfast. The woman who looked after this was extremely nice. There was plenty of food to fill you up. For an extra $2.50 you could get a barista coffee - and we did one morning. We stayed here two nights.
The location is great if you want to walk around near the cruise ship terminal. There are some shops down there and plenty of restaurants.
The unknown bonus was the Saturday market. There must have been over 200 vendors selling their wares. Lots of really neat things to see. There was also a separate place where they were selling fruits, vegetables and flowers. We spent all morning down there looking around.
We would definitely stay here again. We were able to walk every where, and loved our room.

Magnificent! Macquarie Manor is an impeccably maintained hotel in Hobart's CBD. Apart from the wonderfully attentive and good old-fashioned approach to hosting guests, this hotel offers ambience, graciousness, old-worldly style and high standards of hygiene. I was so glad that I stayed here because I felt that I was experiencing a little more of Tasmania's unique history by sleeping under the roof of this grand old building. Whilst this hotel many not offer the slick chicness of an expensive modern hotel, it offers something else that money cannot buy these days. It offers decency, a doorway into the past, and a high quality place to rest your head after a day of exploring Hobart. Finally, the all-inclusive breakfast is delightful ...

I booked this hotel for one night on either side of an Intrepid tour of Tassie. The location was handy and I was able to walk down to the Salamanca/dock areas in about 10 mins. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast was great. You can get a barista coffee and the host, Matt, toasted me a croissant to take on my journey. Matt informed me of some activity options in the area, printed out a local map and highlighted things for me. He was very friendly and professional. I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

This was a great location for a short stay in Hobart if you are looking for something a little different from your standard modern hotel room. It is rich in history, it is elegant, it is boutique and makes you feel like you are staying in a manor from yesteryear. It is clean, staff friendly and the included continental breakfast although basic, was just what we wanted. If you want on-site parking ($20 per night), make sure you book ahead as it appears there is only limited space.
This location was very close to the CBD, waterfront and Salamanca markets, which were the only things we wanted to explore on foot in the area. We then did the drive up Mount Wellington which was also a short drive away from the hotel.
If you want a modern hotel room with modern luxuries then this probably isn’t for you. But if you are after a comfortable and elegant jump back in time for a short stay then you won’t be disappointed. This was good value for money.

We stayed three nights and no problems. They gave us complimentary parking that you would normally pay just for starters. Good hot water and a very comfortable bed, what more could you ask for. Good continental breakfast with tea or coffee made by your host. This place is located just where you want it to be for shopping/attractions in Hobart and easy to find and the manor house is clean with all you need for your stay. Our host was very friendly and helpful at all times. We recommend this place and we will be back when in Hobart.

A short 5 mins walk from city centre and tourist centre. Chris and staff always happy to help with advice. Clean, crisp bed linen. Continental breakfast is filling despite no cooked option. Would of wanted a mini safe inside the room but otherwise excellent facilities. On some websites I have seen the Macquarie Manor referred as a hotel, but to be clear it is a B&B.

We picked this place to stay in advance of our trip without knowing much. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised, as the owner/operator opened the door for us. He also watched over the breakfast (complimentary) every morning for the 5 days we spent in Tasmania, and all of it in Hobart staying at the Macquarie.

It's well-located to restaurants that are not on the waterfront, but those are reachable in 10 minutes walk. Scallop pies are available in nearby bakeries!

Good, clean, warm place to stay with large rooms. It is central to all amenities with friendly, helpful staff. Will come back and recommend the Manor to friends coming to Hobart.
Nothing was a problem for our host Chris, he made us very welcome. A great bonus of being at the Manor is that we can get pick ups from bus tours straight across the road and you are within walking distance to all Hobart sites. We had a great stay.

Yes, it is a small operation. Reception is not open 24 hours. I think it best to call them before 4.00pm Hobart time.

Yes there are rooms with a queen bed and windows but the view is not scenic. I suspect this may be the case with other hotels in the area. All you will see are buildings and tarred roads.
