This heritage hotel is very quaint and our room was spacious and clean. The king size bed was very comfy and the double glazing kept the noise from Macquarie Street at bay. The bathroom needed some work - cracked sink, rusted plughole and the smallest shower I have been in for quite a while. However the room was well furnished...

That's how I'd describe our room: tall, dark, and dingy. Rather down at the tooth. Very poor breakfast: two kinds of bread, cereal, instant coffee. Staff was friendly but not terribly competent. The location is the main calling card for this hotel. It apparently is under new management. Let's hope they can transform this diamond in the very, very rough.

This was a lovely gentle 'clubby hotel' which had well set up rooms, quiet area of Macquarie Street and within easy walking access to everything in CBD Hobart. Very obliging staff but didn't see much action from other stayers having breakfast. I think we all headed off to Salamanca!! Just superb down there

We dropped off our rental at Thrifty around the corner from the hotel, although there is a handful of parking spaces available. Breakfast is modest but adequate, no complaints. Room was fine, better than I had expected based on the reviews. Rate was in line with room and amenities. What kept it from being 5 stars: No Wi-Fi in the...

A great location to everything in Hobart. Fantastic and helpful staff. Large, spacious room. Sensational ambiance with a quiet and warm lounge area to sit back, read a book, the paper and have a drink by the bar.

Basic but very large room . Carpet needs a steam clean. Great location for walking to city and restaurants, salamanca and more. Breakfast would be more acceptable if they introduced yoghurt and some fruit. it feels like they are in a transitional phase..but was fine for an overnight visit.

We chose to stay here because of the central location . As described by others the hotel is charming with an interesting atmosphere and decor. The rooms are spacious. We were told on booking ( several months before) that the restaurant was excellent and we even saw the menu. Big disappointment the restaurant was not operating when we were there...

The room is huge. Bathroom very clean and tidy. The only issue we felt was the carpet had stains on it. The hotel is old but maintained. Close to all tourist activities in the city and free parking. Staff helpful and friendly

This was a good, comfortable hotel in the former Surgeon General's House so spacious rooms in an old fashioned style. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were poor so we were unsure about eating dinner there but the new chef (started the week we were there) has plans to improve that and dinner was fantastic. There was no...

Lovely old building and comfortable room. The shower could use a renovation--tiles were cracked. The big disappointment was the "included" breakfast. Two choices of pretty ordinary cereals, only full-cream cows milk, crappy supermarket bread. No fruit and only one type of juice. Coffee was ok. Good central location
