We booked two rooms for 3 nights and stayed in the newly opened wing of the hotel. The other wing is also located on Salamanca Place but a block away from this wing and not connected. The location is perfect to base yourself in the heart of Salamanca Place, with Saturday market just outside and ferry to MONA a 5 minute walk away. Our rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated and well climate controlled as we experienced 43 degrees one day and 10 degrees two days later. (That's Hobart for you.). Beds were super comfortable and rooms were extremely quiet. The reception staff are on site from early morning until 7pm and Candice and Nish were very welcoming and helpful to us throughout our stay. Parking is off site at a cost of $20 per day but only a 5 minute walk away. Amenities were limited but of great quality and as the hotel has only been open a month there are still a few things to be tweaked. We would highly recommend this delightful hotel to anyone visiting beautiful Hobart.

A superb location with all that Salamanca Place has to offer right at the front door.
The staff were helpful and pleasant to deal with even ringing us to check that we had placed the parking permit on the car dashboard in readiness for Saturday morning.
The room was very comfortable and quiet even though our room was directly over the Supermarket there was no noise at all,
We have already recommended this Hotel to friends for their nexr visit to Hobart.

We enjoyed a night’s accommodation at the Moss Hotel to celebrate my husbands birthday. I loved the moody/cosy atmosphere of the place and it had a real “Tassie” feel about it.
We were pleasantly met staff and they were very helpful in checking us in and giving a quick tour/explanation of our room.
The room was beautifully fitted out with lovely toiletries and fluffy towels in the bathroom. We both found the bed extremely comfortable and the room very quiet.
We loved the touch of a personalised handwritten note on our bed welcoming us and the fresh apple on each of our bedside tables.
Location is amazing. Right in the heart of Salamanca and very conveniently next door to Salamanca Fresh where we popped down for some champagne and nibbles.
We also arranged for the private parking which was very easily organised with clear instructions and in close proximity to the hotel.
Overall, we loved it here and would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to be in a central location to easily explore Hobart or just for a special place to stay after a night out in town.

We had one nights stay at the Moss Hotel in Hobart. On the outside it looked great, we had room 40 which looked out into an industrial roof line. We went out for dinner and came back to a room which was cold, tried to turn up the heat but it was locked so had to call reception at 10:45 pm for the building manager to come to our room to turn up the heat. The underfloor heating also did not work.
All night there was a really loud running water noise that sounded like a toilet constantly flushing which I think was the overflow of the air conditioning drain. As when we turned off the air con in the early hours because it was then sooooo Hot at 28 degrees and again locked so we couldn’t turn it down, the noise stopped. In the morning I noticed that there were air plugs beside the bed supplied by the hotel. My gawd ! You dont pay that kind of money to have to wear ear plugs to bed !
All in all I would not recommend and will not be back.

My wife and I stayed at The Moss Hotel for a long weekend in February 2020 while travelling around Australia for 6 weeks.
Our first impressions of the hotel were mixed, primarily because we couldn’t find the entrance to the Hotel. We were directed to an alley off a side street which we couldn’t find, no signage, nothing. Even our taxi driver struggled! We were staying in a part of the hotel which was remote from the main hotel which has seemingly just opened.
Once we found the entrance we were taken by a very polite member of staff to our room. Our first impression of the room was that it was dark and dingy without any windows or natural daylight, apart from two small roof windows/Velux windows which gave only a view of the sky! This was loft living at it’s extreme. The room and bathroom were however fitted to a very high standard. While the staff member was showing us around the room we heard voices from the next door room. Upon further probing, the staff member said that they had hoped that ‘the soundproofing issue’ would have been sorted by now! This was clearly an issue which the hotel was aware of but yet tried to cover up. In our country we call this deceitful! We were unimpressed. Not a good start.
We were eventually ‘upgraded’ to a balcony room in the main part of the hotel along Salamanca. An altogether larger room but again with two small roof light windows within no views. The balcony gave good daylight but it’s view of the adjoins roof was hardly one of beauty! Nothing like the web site photos of a balcony room.
Our troubles were ‘rewarded’ by a warm bottle of bubbly, no ice bucket, no ice, just a bottle of bubbly! Much appreciated all the same.
For those that need to know, there are no common seating/lounge areas in this ‘hotel’ nor any bar nor restaurant, so breakfasts not included. Indeed, we would go as far to say that The Moss is, we feel, stretching the meaning of the word Hotel to it’s extreme. It is more about attic/loft style city centre bedrooms with en suites. Fantastic location though right in the heart of the most buzzy part of town.
We spent three days here. During this time we felt the housekeeper did just enough to get by. Our room wasn’t ever vacuumed and so the leaves on the bedroom carpet from the balcony which were there when we arrived were still there when we left....as were the previous guests pair of socks we found under the suitcase unit!!!!
All in all, we enjoyed our stay there but only because we were ‘upgraded’. Our initial room would have felt like a cell! The quality of the rooms was top end though and with some better attention to housekeeping duties and perhaps a breakfast offer in a cafe within the ‘hotel’ we would have given this 5 stars!

Dear G18SON, Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. As all of our reviews are read and thoroughly considered, there is a lot in your review we have been able to take on and improve from, especially in regards to our Host's service and housekeeping. We will simply be applying a higher level of eye for detail and effort all round. Your confirmation of a number of items are very good points for fellow travellers or future guests to consider; Our entry level, Loft Rooms do not have windows and have skylights as shown on our website. We do not have an in-house dining option however we are entirely surrounded by outstanding dining and entertainment options. The views from any of our rooms may not be described as one of beauty and are predominantly a city view, other buildings, the street, roof tops or maybe Salamanca Green. Of course we are really disappointed in how you experienced the hotel and some of your thoughts and feelings expressed here. On some items I don't fully agree. Rest assured though, all reviews do help us and we have already used your review as motivation to offer the best experience possible for our future guests. Thank you again and best regards, Rod Black General Manager

This hotel takes a historic building and turns it into a stylish and tranquil space. Rooms are spread over two buildings located in the heart of Salamanca Place which makes for excellent access to the city and the foreshore. Rooms are spacious and have a unique styling with plenty of comforts. There is comfortable bedding and furnishings and a well equipped bathroom including a bath in some rooms. Our room 50 was on the top floor with expansive views and was nice and private.
There is no onsite restaurant meaning you have to find your own breakfast but there are plenty of restaurants and cafes in walking distance. Parking is also separate and whilst it is only a block away you do have to get access to it before checking in. These were minor downsides and in particular made it a very expensive stay when you consider the room rate. It is an easy hotel to access although the neighbouring streets would be busy on a Saturday when the markets are on.

website looked stunning, inviting and promising and in accordance with prices. we had high expectations and were very much looking forward to stay at Moss Hotel. As the saying goes - having high expectations leads to poor outcome. The staff of the hotel is unwelcoming, unhelpful. overall the hotels oozes coldness, darkness and soulless. in our two days stay we did not see another guest, except the staff locked up in the untidy little corner, that appears to be the 'reception'. configuration of the rooms was not done in accordance with our requests, so two adult friends had to share a bed instead of having 2 single beds. one of the rooms was located above a pub, and earplugs are offered to be able to sleep. no complimentary water bottles are offered, despite paying 1640$ for 2 nights for 2 rooms. no tissue boxes. This is not covid-, as other hotels down the road did offer all of this. The management must match website with reality and realise that rates should reflect service, style, atmosphere of what they claim they are - an upmarket hotel. For the experience we had, we could have stayed at the local YMCA and would have had probably a better experience with same amount of noise, configuration of rooms and lack of service

Have just returned home after staying at the Moss Hotel for 5 nights. The only thing it has going for it is its position on Salamanca Place. Within walking distance of most of what Hobart has to offer but the hotel itself is somewhat a let-down. It is trendy and minimalist but is lacking in service and many amenities expected from a top of the range hotel. We booked 2 rooms, both Grove Balcony upgrades with supposed Salamanca Place views. One room did have views if you stood and leant over the balcony wall, the other room had a balcony that looked straight onto a brick wall. When we complained we were told by the General Manager, Rod, that you could see the "tree tops" and this was a room with a balcony and a view!! He claimed he could not change this room. Most unhelpful. The room had very poor lighting, a sloping ceiling (I knocked my head a number of times), we asked for a hand towel for the bathroom and was given a face flannel, no suitable lighting in the bathroom for applying make-up, had to search for face tissues and eventually found them hidden in a cupboard near the entry door.
This hotel is definitely not up to the standard of other 5 star hotels we have stayed in around the world. You get a room in which to sleep but not much else. For the cost we definitely received very little service. A couple of the staff were friendly and amiable, but not the General Manager.

Trevor S, You did advise me that you "would be using social media and review sites" in this way and so it is no surprise to find your review here. I was and am disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us at MOSS. On this occasion for this review, I am most disappointed for all of those that have been involved in this Hotel project and the current team here that strive to present a beautiful hotel each day for our guests. Your review and it's impact on MOSS Hotel has disheartened us all. I will not reply or explain further in lieu of that which I offered you in good faith during your stay. Rod Black General Manager

Wanted to call out that the hotel is located directly above a pub called The Whaler. Happy to acknowledge this could have been avoided through further research on my part but here's our experience. Our room was on the 1st floor (G is just the entrance/stairs) which was right above the pub. Every time we opened the blinds we would be welcomed by patrons from the pub waving so we kept our blinds/windows shut the entire time (The Whaler did a nice lobster roll though). Music from the pub went to 12:30/1:00am each morning, you could hear the bass well up until this time so be prepared for that.
I don't think it's unreasonable to expect some peace/privacy if you're paying over $200/night. I think maybe a heads up to guests staying in those rooms would have been appreciated as a courtesy but they did also provide earplugs in the room. There were rooms higher up (I think 4 floors in total?) and not sure if these were more soundproof. I do suspect we may have been allocated this room since this was a cash/QFF payment (paid $620 + 20k QFF points for 3 nights stay).
Overall the staff were helpful and friendly, interiors of the room were nice (especially the heated bathroom tiles!).

Hello Daniel, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this insightful review. We really appreciate your feedback and are constantly trying to improve here at MOSS. We're very sorry that you encountered some noise from the below pub. We do try and advertise our prime location in the heart of Salamanca Place, but you are correct, we can absolutely do more to let our guests know who are staying in that room. We will attention this ASAP. We have 2 different buildings at MOSS, the building you stayed in (39) only has 2 floors, and I can assure you that we never allocate rooms based on payment or booking methods! We want all of our guests to have an amazing time, no matter how they booked. We hope to see you again at MOSS and we can provide an improved experience for you. The MOSS Team.

I stayed with a friend and it was fantastic. Everything felt luscious. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cosy. The bathroom was gorgeous and the toiletries were really luxurious.
The carpet was like walking on clouds and I loved we could open the windows for fresh crisp air. Waking up to the bustle of the Salamanca markets was also a treat.
We organised parking that was close by for a very reasonable $20 a night.
Everything inside from the artwork to furniture was beautiful and the room did not look like a hotel, it was curated and felt very one-off.
