Shipwright's Arms Hotel was established in 1846. Situated in the heart of historic Battery Point, Shippies (as it is know by the locals)has unique collection of Tasmanian and maritime memorabilia. Browse around the bar for the maritime memories including a 7 metre photomural showing every Sydney to Hobart yacht race line honours winner. The English style bar (built by a shipwright) features Tasmanian timbers and the log fires keep it cosy during winter. In summer you can relax in the ambient beer garden.

Our team of eight had just completed the South Western hike and a few drinks and a good meal was desperately needed. The pub was recommended and did not disappoint. A great front bar, good beer and wine plus excellent food. The pub is authentic with lots of memorabilia, characters and just a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended establishment. Calamari was excellent and the parma authentic. The young chap tending our table was excellent.

First visited this pub in 2005 to experience the old world ambience and partake in the pub's renowned Seafood Chowder. It was the best. Fifteen years later a second visit to remember great times and see if the Chowder was as good as it was all those years ago. Despite a slightly smaller serving with the addition of mussels in the shell, the verdict was a big 'thumbs up'. The Chowder was all that we remembered it to be. Worth a visit.

We walked to this pub and enjoyed a few quiet drinks and a great meal in the restaurant. The food was top quality and the service was great. This pub is walking distance from Salamanca. Inside the pub there are lots of historic photos of the Sydney to Hobart yachts. A fair choice of beers are on tap

Spent 2 nights in this place and was very happy overall. Andrew was very accommodating and very helpful in helping me find my way around. Beer was cold and food was good and hot. It couldn’t be situated better and is easy walking distance to Salamanca Market, many food places, the bay, and downtown. It was very clean and had plenty of parking. My only complaint is the noise from other guests in the middle of the night, but that could have happened anywhere. I also found the internet to be very slow during peak times.

My second stay here, this time for two nights. Rooms are clean, comfortable if basic, but good value. Food is lovely, the fish pie was simply mouth watering. Easy walk around the lovely Battery Point and to the Salamanca and dock area. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would be happy to stay for a third time.
