Paid about $80 for the cheapest room with shared bathroom. Basic free breakfast included in the communal kitchen. The room had a window which opened, but because the wire was broken, it wouldn't stay open. Probably because of this, the small room smelt a little stale. Therefore I'd recommend doing what we did and propping it open. I used a metal water bottle during the day, and one of the provided face towels at night. The service was good and free parking available. The location is the best in Hobart in my opinion. Only a short, scenic walk into Salamanca and the CBD.
Great little pub in a very cool area of Hobart Nothing fancy but a good vibe, really friendly staff ,good food and drinks at reasonable prices. Very busy on Friday night and Saturday so book for a meal. Also has accomodation and is close to Salamanca ,waterfront and touristy stuff
Great country pub that feels small but is actually big. It is an easy walk from salamanca place or short taxi/uber ride from hobart CBD. Great food and service. Large table received meals all within a few minutes. Great selection of local wines
History and great food combined at one of Hobart’s oldest pubs, Shipwrights Arms or “Shippies” as the locals call it. This is a go-to watering hole for those looking for a cosy atmosphere with a maritime streak! Delicious food and friendly staff, combined with an old styled tavern atmosphere. We stayed one week, the staff and rooms were very accommodating. Great location, just a short easy walk to all the hot spots in Hobart! Thanks for a wonderful experience.
Had lunch here on our first day of our short stay. The meal was perfect. This is not said lightly . Seafood Chowder so delicious. Steak was cooked to perfection, vegetables blanched just the correct amount . The beef noodle dish was flavorsome and a delight to eat. Hats off to the Chef!
We stayed one night at the hotel on February and couldn’t be happier with the service provided! The location is amazing, in the middle of battery point, easy to just walk everywhere! We had dinner at their restaurant as well, I had the paella and my partner had the chicken parm, the food is was amazing and the price was awesome for the quantity of food that comes on the plate! We couldn’t recommend more this place
Out for tea with family and friends at the well known Shipwrights Arms Hotel known as ‘Shippies’. The Winning boats in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race arrive the night before and the 3rd place getter “scallywag” crew arrived at the pub not long after they got into Hobart and were still celebrating strong so the bar was packed for that great reason. However the staff service in the lounge was spot on and thankfully we had a booked table for 10. The only problem explained to us was the Lamb Shanks had all been taken by the Scallywag crew but they deserve them more then us that’s for sure - so it really wasn’t a problem at all. Plenty of other excellent choices to dribble over and the no rush, no fuss attitude of the boss made for a night out to remember always. Well the company helped to of cause but the atmosphere, drinks, food and service was to shelve stuff. Thanks for a great time Shippies and will be back for sure!…
My partner and I spent 3 nights here during a recent trip to Tasmania. We have only eaten at the Shipwright's Arms (Shippies) on a previous trip, but decided to stay there this time. It's within easy walking distance to Salamanca and various little cafes. This place is rich in maritime history, and I like how they haven't tried to modernise the interior; it has a nice old feel about it, which is appealling. The food is excellent here, and whilst not necessarily cheap, they do it well and with great service too. All staff we encountered were very obliging and friendly. We stayed in a one bedroom en-suite room, which I think was the wheelchair access room, judging by the size of the bathroom. Neither myself nor my partner are in a wheelchair. We were greeted by staff at the bar and the check in process was simple and the staff friendly. The room was decent sized (QS bed) and a large bathroom (designed for wheelchair access). The stay was quiet enough, but I do suggest a couple of points for improvement: * the toilet seat needed tightening and it was almost coming off on one side; * the bathroom (shower area, in particular) needed a really good clean, or a re-tile as it looked dirty and the shower curtain had orange soap scum and mould around the bottom third of it - this definitely needs replacing. * there needs to be some sort of storage in this enormous bathroom for toiletries - there wasn't even a shelf to place anything on, only a tiny area near the taps to the hand basin. The hairdryer I found on the last day, stored in the drawer in the bedroom area. None of the above would stop me from staying there again.…
Room very small. A mirror was nowhere to be found. The window mechanism didn't function; the window could only be left open by propping it. No TV, no wardrobe, no bar fridge -- all amenities my friend who rented at the same time had. And he paid less than I did -- go figure! On the positive side, the room was clean and quiet. The hotel was charming and the restaurant was good.
My wife and I stayed here for one night on a Thursday evening, booking the day of our arrival. The staff were fantastic, helping us from the very beginning when we arrived just before the end of dinner service. The pub is one of the best in Australia, such rich history, and a great vibe throughout the place reminding us of many great places in the UK or Europe with a traditional old world pub feeling. We were checked into our room and allowed to order dinner and drinks just before the kitchen closed, and were very appreciative of the staff doing this for us. Food was great, pub food that we expect from such a traditional place. Room was clean, neat and tidy, and shared bathroom and toilet was decent. For the price, service and overall experience we loved it and would go back for sure. Thanks again guys.…
