We always enjoy a meal at Shippies and with our +1 (daughter), working that night we were set. From our families point of view, it’s the jewel of Hobart’s pub food scene. But when I rang to make the evening booking, there was no message identifying the business and no offer to call back. After several calls over several hours,...

We needed a place to watch the AFL WA derby. They came you our rescue, playing it in the main bar and turning up the volume. A great local, not affected by the gastro pub fascination that sweeps away all of the authentic places. Great pub food, warm staff, friendly locals and a beautiful village location. What else is there?

Could not book onto hobart on our budget but found the "shippy" brilliant we thought according to reviews for our first night on our big trip to Southern Hemisphere ... as it sounded, and turned out to be with knobs on... but watch out.,,, .... watch out of advertised on budget ratings. I believe they have a different number and...

For $90, you get a double bed, one bedside table and a heater. Shared bathrooms outside (male and female). Sounds echo in the corridor, so be careful if you are a light sleeper. Luckily there was only 1 other couple staying in these rooms when we were there. Windows open to let fresh air in which is great. There is...

Pros: close to city centre. We walked everywhere. Has a little kitchenette and so one can have their breakfast as the hotel provides milk, jam, butter and bread Great sturdy mattress Quiet Close to the best bakery in town Cons: we stayed there for 3 nights and noone ever came to tidy up our room or change towels. Maybe that's...

After trying to decide on one of the classier restaurants in Salamanca, we stumbled upon this place. Very good food (a cut above pub food for sure). As others mentioned, incredible sticky date pudding. Great wine list and inspired menu. Service was nice and the pub was full of local color. Also the haunt for the Sydney-Hobart racers.

Reviews were good so we strolled (with directional map)to this hidden gem The pub is quite old fashioned ie 70"s style but the food was great . Porterhouse steak at $32 and Chicken $28 .Very good crispy vegetables and decent pint at $9 .Find this place using a street map.Nice walk through interesting colonial housing .You wont be dissappointed

Wow! We stopped in at the Shipwright arms on the recommendation of someone at Jackman and McRoss, which doesn't serve dinner. We discussed dinner options, which seemed ok. We returned for dinner which turned out to be EXCELLENT! We had the fish of the day with vegetables. We also ordered a plate of chips (fries, if you're American). We all loved...

For a Saturday night meal with 3 friends, we were quite satisfied with the meals we were served. While I agree the menu is typical pub fare, it seemed well done and didn't disappoint four hungry guys. I really enjoyed the seafood chowder. Overall a good experience for the night out.
