A merchant “son of a convict”, a legendary architect, an iconic department store and The Salvo’s all play a part in the history of Maylands. Maylands Lodge is a 12 room luxury lodge of the fringe of the city. A secluded urban hideaway. A place where you’re able to escape, relax and rejuvenate. We are small in nature but big in heart. Absolutely an amazing place. My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and would say its one of the best accommodation in Hobart. It has the old world charm, located in a great spot only minutes to the city but yet very quiet and peaceful. A huge bonus we didn't know about was that we also received free daily breakfast each morning which we had no idea about so that was great as the big brekky also catered to us vegans which we really appreciated.
When we come back to Hobart we will be staying here again as the accommodation was great and at a very good price.

We had a good 2 nights in our ground floor suite with direct access to the beautiful gardens. There’s nothing not to love about Maylands Lodge - they’ve done a great job keeping the natural beauty whilst also updating and modernising the rooms. The furnishings are comfortable and luxurious. I loved that Netflix was connected to the room which is a plus when travelling with kids and giving them wind down time. Located about 10 minutes drive from main Hobart in a quiet area and has its own car park that is free and easy for guests to use

Words cannot describe how perfect and beautiful Maylands Lodge is. We stayed here for 3 nights over our honeymoon and they were the best 3 nights! The rooms were elegant, stylish and spacious. And the breakfast...the best food we have eaten!
The hostess was so willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We didnt have a microwave in our room and we asked to use one to heat food, she went out of her way to bring one to our room to use.
The building itself was restored in a way that you wish every heritage building to be. Definitely a must stay in Hobart!

I visited with my mother on a three day trip from Melbourne and below I share my impressions:
What I liked:
1. Although location is north oh Hobart's center is still a nice area to stay especially if you are looking for neighborhood feeling. Quite hilly and remote from surroundings you feel like you are in the country side 2. Heritage building, beautifully restored with nice interior 3. Extremely spacious room and spacious bathroom
What I didn't like::
1,There is no 24 hrs reception and the feeling is that you stay in a huge Airbnb than a hotel. You check in by taking your room's swipe card through a code shared the day you arrive. It was a big disappointment. 2. Lodge should be better equipped with more amenities such as small bar during night, outdoor seating areas and outdoor furniture. 3. Cleaning is not on spot. I stayed in a huge duplex with many windows and all windows were dirty. Reported to breakfast service but windows remained uncleaned. 4. The fabric towel in the small kitchen area was filthy, stained and smelled burnt oil. That said a lot about cleaning levels. 5. No disposable slippers in the room and no laundry bag for dirty clothes. 6. Not a single armchair or chair in the rooms although there is enough space.
What could be improved:
1. A la carte hot breakfast although good quality it could have more options. We stayed three days and we ate ever day the same thing. Cold breakfast and fruits could be available.
Overall, nice place with character but it lacks soul and fails in small but important details. If you dont have a car you might need to rely on Uber.

Very Disappointing, for a hotel to advertise itself as one of the top luxury hotels in Tasmania it was very disappointing, from the moment we arrived from interstate to a locked hotel and no means of enterance due to locked doors the bells were ringing. After gaining entry thanks to another guest leaving not a soul could be found, no one was at reception no information nothing. After finally locating a phone number (melbourne I think) we were told to use a code for the key safe, after finally gaining access to our room we settled in for the evening to the sounds coming from the room nextdoor, everytime they used the bathroom we could hear them. After a reasonable nights sleep we arose for breakfast, it was supposed to be a continental breakfast but consisted of Cornflakes or Meusli, Toast & Preserves the was 2 slices of salami/ mortadella left on a tray and only small unappetising apples for fruit and no Juice. When I asked the young girl for more Juice she said that they had none left. For a cost of almost $300 per night this was unacceptable. There was never any staff around, we ran out of sugar and tea in our room but no way to replenish our supply so we had to visit a local supermarket to purchase our own Tea, Milk & Coffee Put simply not good enough.

We have stayed here on several occasions and previously wrote a glowing review not long after the property had opened. Our last stay was more like Fawlty Towers. I have sent a private email directly to Maylands Lodge more than two weeks ago and there was no response. I don't know what has happened to Mayland's but I would hate a potential visitor to consider my previous review and make a booking based on how it was then. Firstly our room wasn't cleaned. There were clothing labels and hair on the floor from a previous occupant. The milk in our fridge expired the day we arrived and was actually lumpy. There was only plunger coffee offered. Breakfast was no longer on offer due to staffing issues although we still payed for breakfast as part of the tariff. There was no partial refund or vouchers for breakfast elsewhere or breakfast hamper offered. Plumbing issues in the room next door continued until well after 11pm and then the wind caused the hallway door to bang throughout the night. It was possibly the worst night's sleep I've had since my children were small. We actually considered forfeiting our second night and staying elsewhere to get some sleep. Also the car park was no longer secure and the gates remained open all night. To be honest - I'm unhappy to write such a poor review and that's why I initially sent a private email to Mayland's and I have no idea what is now going on with this premises but we certainly will not be wasting our time and money by staying here in the future when there are such lovely accommodation offerings within the city.

Our room was nice but there were no staff on the premises for the entire duration of our stay. It was a very expensive bed with no services in a poor location. Meals are no longer provided and this fact is not disclosed on the website. The lodge is out in the suburbs so you have to drive back into the city to find a decent restaurant. They don't even provide cornflakes for breakfast, let alone coffee making facilities. There are some great hotels in central Hobart were your stay will be much more rewarding.

The Hunter room with terrace is divine. Gorgeous full size period bathtub and fireplace. We absolutely loved Maylands. Jess was so very generous catering to anything and everything we needed. The breakfasts are unbelievable, just beautifully prepared, presented, delicious meals. We could have stayed for months.

We recently had the privilege of staying at Maylands Lodge and meeting the wonderful Jess who greeted us with a smile and welcomed us to Maylands. It is a beautiful restored building high up on the hill, gracious and statuesque. The artwork and decor is jaw dropping with attention to detail. The breakfast served in the dining room was mouth watering with an array of food and options to suit every fussy palate. The building has beautifully maintained gardens which add an air of elegance and grandeur. We highly recommend staying at Maylands which is no more than 10 minutes by car to city centre Hobart. This is possibly the most comfortable and impressive place I have ever stayed. This grand old home has been turned into top quality accommodation thas has all the modern facilities without losing the charm of the buildings original era.
Fantastic bathrooms with underfloor heating, great shower and luxurious bath along with king sized comfy beds, nice lounge, great TV and A/C and an external door into beautiful gardens.
The staff could not do enough for us and the price was better than reasonable. Breakfasts were great, parking fantastic and location central to everything

Good afternoon,
Thank you for your enquiry.
1. We have one of each room type that can be set up as a Twin room. One Brownell, One Pearce & One Hunter suite. All of our 2 bed rooms can be arranged as Singles or King beds. Just be sure to mention that would would like them arranged as a Twin as our default bed layout is as a King bed.
2. All rooms have thick, great quality curtains which we would consider to be block out. Our Hunter 2 bedroom suite has some blinds down stairs in the lounge area as it is on a split level, that is our only room where you may get some light coming through.
3. Being as we are a very small hotel with only 12 rooms in a residential area, you will find all rooms to be quiet and the entire property to be a very peaceful experience.
I hope this helps, please contact us if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Maylands Team
