Really didn’t know what to expect from this experience but it was lovely. Erin is a delight to deal with and so is her husband. The room was immaculate and clean and well maintained. They do offer a laundry service for $10 a load and can dry your clothes for you as well. The bed is only a double so it was a bit tight as we have a king size bed at home. Takes a bit of getting used to again. So if you are over 6ft, you may have issues sleeping comfortably. Very quiet and the temperature remained steady all night. Something to say you have done and I would recommend this motel anytime.

I'm still staying here and I'm writing this review! About 6 years I first started at The Underground Motel here in Coober Pedy and it was great then. My wife and I were travelling with friends on route to Womadelaide and chanced upon thus establishment by chance as we tried to find somewhere decent to stay here in Coober Pedy. Anyway the stay was great. This time my wife and I have been on a m massive roadtrip from Townsville via Alice Springs to Ballarat where I have relocated....we pulled in to Coober Pedy tired and hot after 7 hours of frustrating car troubles in the stifling 40deg + heat. Not wanting to chance a night drive through to Adelaide we once again chose to stay at the Underground Motel. I can tell you , it was a most stupendous choice. Upon check in we were once again shown to out pre cooled underground rooms , resplendent in their cool rock hue....The room was beautifully presented with clean linen, a small but well stocked bathroom and access to a communal kitchen with all the facilities needed to avoid a visit to an overpriced hamburger joint. Sitting here relaxing after a hard day's drive was a pleasure and I can only recommend ...if you need somewhere to stay in Coober Pedy, come here 😁

This is a really comfortable motel at the affordable end of the market. High points were its location with a terraced area looking out to the west which was great for Coober Pedy sunsets. It has a range of facilities not commonly found - a new microwave, crockery and cutlery, and glassware (including wine glasses!). The owners were very friendly and helpful, including being available when, for example, the bbq proved difficult to start. We found the whole place very relaxing and enjoyable with really nothing to complain about. The fact that rooms were located into the hillside, a common feature of accommodation here designed to reduce the impact of high summer temperatures, made it a little more interesting.

One roll of toilet paper, hot water ran out after 3 showers, front door looked like it had been kicked in, wifi did not cope with visitation numbers. A lot of money for a hole in the ground. That and you had to wash all the crockery, dry it and put it away to avoid a $30 fee.

I guess we’re not suited to staying underground. We stayed in Room 9 on the lower level which was smallish and the air somewhat stuffy. It was pretty ordinary to discover the bed was pushed hard up against the rock wall so one person had to clamber over the other to get in/out of bed. The “double” bed seemed really small - I’m 5’11” and it felt like my feet hung over the bottom edge. With only a tiny window there’s not much fresh air. Shower was good, as was the little kitchenette. However, it was a bit rude and unnecessary to have a note stuck to the wall saying we’d be charged $30 if the dishes weren’t cleaned, dried and put away, especially when the room was $145. By the reviews, this place clearly suits some people but next time in Coober Pedy we’ll choose a place with a queen bed and good air circulation.

Room Tip:Think twice about a small double bed up against the wall

The motel room was a dugout into a hillside. The room had what we needed. However the door lock was not in good condition and door (with glass panel) had missing blind. So we used a spare bathing towel as a blind for the door’s glass panel. The plants outside the motel room were not well looked after.

Lovely place with good decor and use of space. Walls have been sealed so no dust for those who might have allergies. Access to a kitchen is a bonus for those who need it. Bed comfy and the shower was a nice treat at the end of the day coming off the Oodnadatta track

Stayed here for two nights and we had the budget room which was small but had all the amenities. The shared kitchen provided all the necessities with a spacious frige, cooktop, oven and cutlery and crockery. Great shower, cosy room. The only thing we missed was another chair in the room but you could also sit in the shared hallway which was breezy and had easy chairs just outside the room.

Stayed 4 nights at the Underground, we booked the self contained deluxe room (room 9) which was great. There are 2 self contained rooms, the other one (room 8) is suitable for families having 2 bedrooms. They are outside the main building dug into the hillside at the front of the grounds. Room was well equipped with tv, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and crockery etc, one minor negative is we found the 2 seater sofa a little small to be able to both stretch out comfortable on it whilst watching tv but the rooms are compact so space is a little tight for anything much bigger but outside you have your own paved sitting area with outdoor setting which was a lovely way to enjoy a wine or coffee. There is a communal bbq on the grounds also. Hotel management were helpful and friendly and overall was a great experience.

We stayed here for 4 nights last week. Mike is a wonderful host, nothing was too much trouble and he was happy to share lots of useful information. He recommended a tour which we were thrilled with. The rooms were spotless and we were pleasantly surprised they were cleaned daily. The only disappointment was that the BBQ, cooktop and inclusive breakfast were not available due to Covid restrictions. It would have been handy to know this before we travelled as we had brought steak etc with us which we were unable to cook. Will stay herr again if we ever return. Thanks Mike.

Sorry, I don't know if they are pet friendly. We did not see anyone with pets, Looking at the compact size of the motel, I suggest they are not Pet Friendly.
