I'm still staying here and I'm writing this review! About 6 years I first started at The Underground Motel here in Coober Pedy and it was great then. My wife and I were travelling with friends on route to Womadelaide and chanced upon thus establishment by chance as we tried to find somewhere decent to stay here in Coober Pedy. Anyway the stay was great. This time my wife and I have been on a m massive roadtrip from Townsville via Alice Springs to Ballarat where I have relocated....we pulled in to Coober Pedy tired and hot after 7 hours of frustrating car troubles in the stifling 40deg + heat. Not wanting to chance a night drive through to Adelaide we once again chose to stay at the Underground Motel. I can tell you , it was a most stupendous choice. Upon check in we were once again shown to out pre cooled underground rooms , resplendent in their cool rock hue....The room was beautifully presented with clean linen, a small but well stocked bathroom and access to a communal kitchen with all the facilities needed to avoid a visit to an overpriced hamburger joint. Sitting here relaxing after a hard day's drive was a pleasure and I can only recommend ...if you need somewhere to stay in Coober Pedy, come here 😁…
I remember staying here about 18 years ago, and it has definitely been kept up-to-date. We stayed in room 9 and it was so amazing. There was a large amount of room for the two of us, wonderful amenities, able to part right up to the door, and it was very quiet. The host was wonderful to us and was able to help us with recommendations for activities and a dinner spot (with 10% discount). Would absolutely stay here again.
We stayed 1 night in Room 1... easy parking and the experience of underground camping was a once in a life Time for us. Rooms were so cool, motel is super clean, Man who served us was super helpful. Great views, nice and cool inside the rooms. Very quiet and we all had a great sleep
We found the place on line and it was easy to find the “Underground Hotel.” The place is build into a the hill. As we entered the hotel our room was spacious and clean. The walls and ceiling showed the hard work that has been done to create them . Steve the owner was very friendly and hospitable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We stayed here for 4 nights last week. Mike is a wonderful host, nothing was too much trouble and he was happy to share lots of useful information. He recommended a tour which we were thrilled with. The rooms were spotless and we were pleasantly surprised they were cleaned daily. The only disappointment was that the BBQ, cooktop and inclusive breakfast were not available due to Covid restrictions. It would have been handy to know this before we travelled as we had brought steak etc with us which we were unable to cook. Will stay herr again if we ever return. Thanks Mike.
