We arrived in Coober Pedy at 5.15 in the morning on the Greyhound Express coach, it was dark, cold & "bus station" was shut & in darkness. I had emailed the Desert Cave Hotel 2 nights previously asking if there would be transport to meet us at the bus station, I had no reply!!! As there was Wifi on the bus... More

Dear FayKayRay, Allow me to apologise if in any way you mistook me for being rude to you. I can assure you I was not purposely 'berating you', or accusing you for the coach service being early. At the time my only concern was for your safety as I assumed you had walked alone from the bus station. I agree,... More

We were so disappointed over this hotel...The hotel has an absolutely excellent restaurant, and i highly recommend a dinner there, but we were not impressed over our room and the other facilities. For example, the hotels bar downstairs could have been marvelous, but is not cozy, and is mainly occupied by drunk locals. Our room (let me note that the... More

Dear Anna-Maria T, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I'm pleased you enjoyed the restaurant. I'm sorry our above ground older style rooms did not impress. In regards to the bar, I can assure you it is never occupied with drunk locals as this is completely against our responsible service of alcohol policy. Some of our... More

To start on a positive note the staff were friendly and accommodating. But we got put in a room with carpet that was soaking wet, not knowing what underground living was like at first we thought this was normal. After showering everyone and putting our children to bed, we realised the amount of coughing coming from them was not normal.... More

Dear Luong16, Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. Firstly, let me apologise that the room you went into had wet carpet. This is anything but normal. Unfortunately we've just had a recent heavy rain event which has delivered over 60ml to the town in one day. This has affected 2 of our rooms which... More

This large Hotel has a range of facilities and there were a number of tour groups staying. It has under and above ground rooms. We stayed in an above ground room which was maintained, clean and roomy but a little "tired" and dated in its decor. Unfortunately, the hotels excellent restaurant Umberto's is located at the top of a three... More

Dear mustdotravels, Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We're looking at some improvements over the summer months which should lift the rooms appearance a bit. The Restaurant does have a rear entrance which guests often drive directly to, thus avoiding the stairs. Happy travels! Matt Coxon More

Very comfortable stay in above ground room. The room was clean, large and quiet, bed comfortable and good curtains to block out light. Bathroom a little dated but well supplied with good quality towels and toiletries. I agree re other comments about tea facilities. Please upgrade to decent sized mugs and a toaster would be highly valued by travelling guests... More

We were very much looking forward to retiring in our room as we travelled from Yulara to Coober Pedy this day. We very surprised with the friendliness and efficient service of the staff, they could not be more welcoming. After taking our gear to our room we ventured down stairs to the bar to have a quiet drink. Being underground... More

Underground rooms are large, super quiet and super dark at night. I'd not stayed here since 1992 or so but we weren't disappointed - except for the underground bar which was cold and noisy with tiled floor and pool tables serving to eliminate any sense of cosiness on a cold night. The restaurant is nicely appointed with excellent friendly service... More

For the unusual, a stay in an underground room is a must. Very comfortable room with all the mod concerns. The concept of having a room in a cave is very original, and fitting for Coober Pedy. Staff was a little stiff. Wifi does not work in a cave, so hou have to go outside for that. Facilities are good. And if the lights are out it is very dark! Rooms was quite big too.
