We didn't stay at the hotel and only wanted a drink at the famous subterranean bar. It has an impressive entrance through an old opal mine. The bar itself hasn't changed since opening day 30 years ago. No music unless you pay for the juke...More

The Underground bar is built into the hill and will remain as is for many years to come. We have an extensive wine list in the Umbertos Restaurant but regrettably the demand for a more varied list in the bar is small.
The rooms are comfortable and ensure a goods night sleep. They contain all amenities to ensure a enjoyable stay. The costs are reasonable The meals at the restaurant are well priced and very satisfying.

In fairness they did try...More
We stayed one night here, moving from another hotel just up the road, which we deemed unacceptable-ironically it turns out this is owned by the same people! Hard to believe. Only a $10 price difference, but miles apart in terms of quality. The underground room...More

The Desert Cave Hotel is the world's only underground international hotel. We're located at Coober Pedy, which since 1915 has lured those who seek the elusive opal, found in this vast outback semi-desert area. ...MoreAvailable Government and Corporate Rates with meal deals available. Less
