Like Long John silver & "Treasure Island we are forever returning hoping to find a "GEM QUALITY OPAL" by 'noodling' on the dumps of old mines. To sleep in an underground mine transformed in-to a modern hotel is a very special experience, imagine your sleep completely un-disturbed in your room deep below the ground where the constant temperature remain the...

Dear fhjensen2016, Thanks for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay with us. Happy to read you enjoyed the underground room experience. Sounds like you've ticked a few boxes on experiences in the town as well. Best of luck with the Opal search in the noodling pits! They have been found before.... Happy travels! Matt Coxon

An experience to sleep in a room carved in rock. Most of the hotel rooms don't need AC as it is naturally cool enough although outside temperatures reach plus 40 C. The swimming pool is a very pleasant addition and the restaurant is very good.

On first appearance it looks very impressive and does seem to be one of the nicest places in town however ...... our underground room felt damp the bed sheets also felt damp , they were old pink and green stripes and felt rough like they were pilling . Our room opens to the outside and was hot with only a...

More comfortable than the sister hotel Opal, underground rooms are huge with huge bathrooms and excellent amenities. Watch out if you are claustrophobic as it us truly underground - no windows so it is dark at night with lights out.

I could not stay in Coober long ; hotel very comfortable ; staff very friendly ; there is a nice pool though surrounds could be a bit tidier and some lounges would be good; big disappointment was arriving after 9pm and all restaurants were closed.

Dear Bernadette O, Thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. Happy to read the hotel was comfortable and staff very friendly. Unfortunately during the summer months most restaurants in town would struggle with costs of staying open after 9pm when there's not many travelers about. If you're ever passing through this way again late, give us...

The room was comfy and spacious. The room was lovely and cool but we did use the fan for air flow. Everything was clean and the staff were friendly. The room next to us were pretty noisy and it almost felt like the walls were too thin. The tv was great and phone signal down in the room was pretty...

Coober Pedy is where the beautiful Australian opals are mined. The miners sell direct but the prices are not inexpensive, although some deals can be made. The Desert Cave Hotel has rooms both above and below ground. Obviously below ground has no windows and the "rooms" are actually cut into the stone. Stone walls and ceiling, don't expect drywall here....

I called in here while Ferrying a plane from WA to QLD, I arrived late and was not expecting to get anything to comfortable, The staff at the Desert cave sent a vehicle to the airport to pick me up ($10 each way) On arrival the reception staff were friendly and offered an underground room. It was a nice room...

I have to say the facility is comfortable, clean, just like a regular hotel, just without windows. The staff are friendly and efficient, the facilities are vast and includes internet, although sometimes this is patchy in the underground rooms, cafe, restaurant and opal museum and shop. It is very well located, right in the Main Street of CooberPedy, and you...

Stayed here on our way to Uluru and back. First night was great but second night we had some crickets and bugs come in under the door but easily fixed. We had a great stay and breakfast in Crystal Cafe was fantastic! Lots to see at this hotel as well.
