Detailed Reviews
This was my second stay at the Adelaide Paringa and it hasnt changed. Still good value for wonderful central location, large clean rooms and friendly staff. It does get noisy at night on the weekends as it is in the night club district. So if you are a light sleeper bring ears plugs, but weekday nights are much quieter. It is an older style hotel and absolutely nothing flash or fancy. Rooms are well equiped with coffee making facilities and fridge. Bathroom is totally adequate. Beds are comfortable and A/C worked fine once I worked it out. Nothing to fault really.

Good value, great location, comfy beds, very handy having a fridge, table, and chairs.
The window was basically covered by buildings, however this wasn’t an issue.
We were happy with the ‘stay 3 pay 2’ deal - it made it very affordable for our family.

Location was excellent, in the heart of Adelaide, 5-10 min walk to markets, shops, cafes, restaurants, sporting venues & botanical gardens. Karine & staff were very helpful & friendly. We asked for & were given a quiet room. The hotel is a little dated, but it is clean & comfortable & has WiFi & a lift. Recommend it for convenience, comfort & price. Disadvantage is parking, which is close, but not free.

We stayed here for a two night break, lured in by the stylized photographs.
The hotel itself was built in 1926, and I think the rooms were last refurbished around 1976 the furniture is old and dated. The med was comfortable, but we found some serious stains on the bedding. The location is excellent for trams and access to Rundle St Mall, however being so close to Hi key Street means that there are council street sweeper trucks passing around 430am ever morning. Also, the lane way that has access to the hotel had a few undesirable characters camping in the doorway of the hotel, and having a little drink and argument to themselves quite late.
The cold water tap in the bathroom didn’t work. We alerted the hotel reception who told us there was someone booked to come and fix it whilst we were out. When we returned it had not been fixed. We told the receptionist that it hasn’t been fixed so if the plumber had billed them, then he hadn’t done his job.
Finally, the hotel policy has a clause for “night workers” who are to “escort their guests out of the building and ensure the security fort is closed” I wasn’t quite sure what that meant at first, but it didn’t take long for the penny to drop. Several times during the night there was a rhythmic banging of the headboard in the adjacent room ….. business must have been good!
Overall, I guess you get what you pay for. We lamented over the additional $20 a night extra we could have spent to have a much nicer hotel, just an extra block away from being smack bang in the middle of the city.

Reception was full of people running back and forth between rooms, yelling, and asking for power points to charge their phone.
The location is in an alleyway, which is very attractive to the homeless.
The first room I went into was already occupied by someone else’s things.
The second room didn’t have a key, so I was told that if I needed to get back in, the receptionist would have to let me in.
The room smelt so bad the staff told me they were coming straight back with air freshener. She didn’t return.
I was told to keep my room locked when I was inside for safety. (Maybe because other people are given access to your room…)
The carpet had visible rubbish/crumbs/dirt, like it hadn’t been vacuumed.
The receptionist was fearful of the lift. It was clear she didn’t trust it. It had no flooring, and was very dirty, as well as graffitied.
I left, with my money back, and found a much better hotel around the corner.
I read through the other reviews. All the positive reviews are from years ago. Please read the reviews from 2021, educate yourself, and find somewhere else to stay.
Adelaide Paringa should be closed down immediately, and should not be advertised on Trip Advisor. I was fearful, and I have been in very poor countries, where the quality of accommodation was far less dingy and dirty than this place.
I wish I had photos to update the misrepresentation I saw online.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

The rooms were completely opposite of what we saw in pictures. The alley to motel's entrance has drunk and druggies at night and smashed bottles and garbage in the morning. The street gets very busy at night time (not in a good way), not suitable for families. The rooms were very dark, the toilet smelt, toilet tiles were missing, hot water in the sink wasn't functional. You cannot open any windows so cannot get any fresh air. The carpets were extremely dirty.
It was extremely depressing every time we came back to our room. I will not recommend this motel to anyone, singles or families. A very poor decision to choose this motel and pay upfront before checking the rooms.

Despite being a ‘non smoking hotel’ the room had a very strong smell of cigarettes, the bathroom was old with a cracked sink and had mould growing on the walls. We were woken up at 3am to other guests shouting, swearing and slamming doors. Dodgy guests staying at the hotel and hanging around out the front, someone urinated in the lift overnight. Noisy pipes and could hear water turned on in other rooms several times during the night.
One good thing - the location.
Tip: spend a little extra and go somewhere else!

+1
This hotel and the room we had bears no resemblance to the advertised rooms. For its price $220 a night I got
Sucked into a very poor experience. The location is very central, and was ideal for our needs, but the room was uncomfortable, falling apart, blocked out windows, stuffed mattresses, very old and unmaintained. Find somewhere else to stay.

They canceled my booking without any reason just 3/5 days before. because I booked through a website, I was tensed because of that. you know Australia is expensive, if you can't book your hotel before 1month, it will cost high. so I called them directly, which was bit stressing...surprisingly I found that they take booking only over phone! and that street is very popular for bar areas ..so bit noisy for a solo traveler..you can check Rundle mall road, that was I find more interesting & happening place. room not too clean comparing the rent.

Hotels that are old, basic and inexpensive can be great. I've stayed quite happily in many that fit this description. But the Paringa is something else. It felt grubby, poorly maintained and unsafe. My first room had a broken bathroom window that wouldn't close and opened onto a flat roof a metre below. There was no mattress protector, the air conditioner vent was cracked and dusty and the carpet was stained. I felt uncomfortable and would never recommend it or stay there again. I endorse the other recent negative reviews.
