Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great hotel in a perfect location. Look at the North Terrace Rooms as the view is worth it. The basic rooms are the nice but they are overlooking an alley. We had booked a basic room and when I asked for an upgrade Brook was very helpful. So pleased we changed into a suite. The service was amazing. Everyone was so friendly and so helpful. We had dinner at Lume one night and the food was beautiful. We stayed for 3 nights and couldn't fault anything at all. We had a great time and we will definitely be back.

Most beautiful hotel. Very spacious and gold class room. Bathroom is the best. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast best we've had. Staff are amazing. Check in with Melissa who is super efficient and so lovely and helpful. Lounge bar is great and Olga is so helpful. Staff here are a great asset to the hotel. Will be back soon.

I’ve just spent three nights at the hotel with my teenage son - our first trip to Adelaide and a fun way to finish off the school summer holidays. I couldn’t speak any more highly of the Playford, it was a perfect experience from start to finish. All the staff - from the front desk, to the wait staff at breakfast and dinner, to housekeeping - were exceptionally welcoming and friendly and very helpful. Our twin room on the 6th floor was spacious and very clean, great to have a separate bath and shower, and we loved the sunset views over the city. The room was quiet, easy to keep the temperature right, and had plenty of storage space. Nice selection of drinks and snacks in the minibar, and a great selection of channels on the tv. We visited the pool and spa three times and it was lovely - nice and quiet and clean. There was a good selection for breakfast, so we ate at the hotel all three mornings. We had dinner in the hotel one night and that was also excellent. For first time visitors, the hotel is in a brilliant location - easy for trains, trams, walking or cabs. We spent a lot of time just strolling along the river paths, which are less than five minutes away. Thanks to all the team for a wonderful experience, and for making us feel so welcome at the hotel! We hope to make it up again from Tassie very soon.

I stayed here for one night and had the most wonderful experience - though my expectations are already set quite high for my favourite Adelaide hotel. While the hotel is expensive when compared to other 5-star properties in the Adelaide market, it sure makes up for it in terms of staff professionalism and friendliness. The hotel renovated extensively during COVID and the clean, new, and wonderfully appointed rooms left me wanting for nothing. The bar staff have a good memory (though when it is busy service can be a little slow), and although the breakfast offering is small it did not leave me feeling unsatisfied. The location of the hotel opposite Adelaide Railway Station and tram stop meant that I could conveniently get to any meeting, meal, sporting event, or function.

We had a flying visit to Adelaide for my husband's 50th birthday and chose the Playford as a bit of a treat for ourselves. It really was a step up from our regular hotels, and felt very luxurious to us. The bathroom was elegant and well stocked with everything we needed, and the soaps supplied smelled and felt great. The decor of the room felt classy and well designed to mix modern and art deco styles. The bed was very comfortable. We visited the pool area and enjoyed the spa and sauna. And last but definitely not least, the staff were all excellent - friendly and helpful. The location was also perfect for us to explore the cultural precinct and attend a show at the Festival Theatre.

We stayed here as a family of four in a twin room. The room itself was lovely - i have a broken ankle though and was impossible to wash with hard a shower above bath. Unfortunately the twin room only has a few rooms with separate shower. Our room looked out to a wall so not exactly a beautiful view - when I asked about this I was informed all twin rooms have the same view. Given the location of the hotel there is really only one side that would have a view and lots of natural light. The refurbishment of the rooms is great and the beds and bedding super comfortable. The block out blinds had us sleeping late. We did not eat or drink at the hotel. The friendly gentleman at reception recommended a great cafe down the road - Peter Rabbit - for brunch and helped us decide what to see while in Adelaide. The car parking is across the road and someone assisted us with our luggage while my husband parked. I recommended as a great stay in Adelaide. Not a too notch 5 star hotel but not too far off. Only 4 stars because bathroom could not accomodate my broken ankle.

Generally pretty good, decent breakfast, well equipped gym, spacious room, helpful staff. I can't think of anything it was lacking, I would stay here again. That should be enough but triaadvisor insist on 200 characters

As Accor members we received an invitation to stay at the Playford in a premium room at a special price of $300 which included $100 Dining credit at the Luma. We had not returned to the Playford since Covid and knew that it had undertaken a luxury renovation. We were there on a Friday night and had booked dinner at the Luma : I was ambivalent since our earlier experience was lackluster. See my review of the Luma, but what a lovely surprise : It was a 5 star experience at dinner and breakfast. Check in was smooth. The room : New York Style Loft room on the 7th floor was AMAZING. I suspect we were upgraded to the best which was 705 : a North Terrace facing loft room. The furnishings, the space and the luxurious amenities were world class. The windows are " double glazed " to keep the street noise to a minimum. The Bed and linen, the Bathroom the Mini Bar inclusions were exceptional. Would encourage any one looking for a City break or visiting from interstate to consider The Playford. I have stayed at the Sofitel Adelaide and if I were to return would choose the Playford. The Service and friendliness of the staff at Reception, Bar and the Luma was reminiscent of what one often gets in Asia but is rarely seen in Australia. This I believe is often a sign of excellent leadership from the GM and the management team. Thank you Sam & Angela S

Very disappointed with the cleanliness and lack of attention to detail in the rooms. Turned up with a can on the balcony with cigarettes butts, chip on wine glass and only one glass in the room, dirty cutlery, grime in the bath. Breakfast staff need improvement with all round customer service.

Great luxury hotel in the center of Adelaide. I recently stayed at the Playford for work, and was very impressed. The staff were amazing. Greeting us on arrival and taking care of our luggage. We arrived early, but they allowed us to take care of our checkin paperwork and arranged for our bags to be delivered to our rooms for us. Parking is across the street in a multi level parking facility. There is the option to park ourselves or valet. The rooms were very styling and comfortable. Mine had a large bathtub in it, which was a nice touch. Walking distance to many popular spots in Adelaide. Whilst breakfast was included with my room, we did not get to try it, as we had to leave at 6am each morning to get to work.
