Nestled in a prime location, the InterContinental Adelaide is frequently commended for its proximity to attractions and transport. Guests enjoy the Club Lounge and commend the attentive, professional service. The hotel's cleanliness, particularly the stylish bathrooms and well-equipped gym, also garners praise.
However, the overall atmosphere and room decor are often noted as dated, with some visitors feeling that the experience doesn't justify the price. While the amenities are appreciated, the pool area and other facilities are viewed as in need of an update.

Great hotel and location if you are happy to pay a premium or get a good deal for a stay. The hotel is 15 mins drive from the airport (about $17 uber fare). The location is right next to the Adelaide train station and just across the river from the Adelaide Oval but you’d barely notice if a game is on if you are staying on the other side (street side) of the hotel. The room is spacious, is somewhat aged, but most importantly as an IHG hotel the beds are comfortable and the bathroom is stylish and contains a bath. There is a small pool downstairs in an outdoor terrace and a large gym room with heaps of machines and facilities (no sauna or spa that I could see)
Interestingly, the hotel is right next to the most non-descript casino in the world. There’s barely a sign visible to say it’s Adelaide Casino and you’d only know if you look through the windows and see the machines when walking on the river side of the hotel.
There is a few eating places nearby but you are better to walk or catch the free city tram to some other areas that offer more alternatives.
Overall, you won’t go wrong staying here for the hotel and facilities.

The bed, the bed, the bed, aaah the bed. So cumfy. Room was very comfortable and clean. Beautiful bathroom with bath and walk in shower. Valet service was exceptional and enough staff available for quick service and attention. Easy check-in and out. Magnificent breakfast, nothing too much trouble, just ask. The price was more than competitive with other hotels in the area. Will try and use this Hotel more.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
I have stayed at the hotel at least 10 times now and always return for one simple reason. The hotel and staff always look after me and are aware of any dietary needs and requirements in the room itself. When I stay at the hotel I always select the Club Intercontinental as it is like a hotel within a hotel. I have been tempted to stay at newer hotels within the Adelaide but the service brings me back. Plus most newer hotels have air conditioning in the room that turns off or goes to a higher temperature (in summer) when there is no movement.
Room: pilows and bedding always meet my requests on file. I always book the Club King Room with a river view. Yes we all know that the room is dated with browns, but you need to remember as I have experienced over Christmas all modern hotels use the colour of brown and grey. So the brown bathroom is now fashionable again!! I love the water pressure in the shower, as most hotels I have stayed at use special rain water shower heads no pressure and water is cold after 2-3 mins. As I am a very difficult sleeper, the hotel even provided me with a fan as I find that I needed this when I am sleeping.
Club Intercontinental: excellent service with breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks and canapes in the evening. Again aware of my dietay requirements and they were all met. Staff are always so obliging. I know that guests had complained that hot food at night is brought to your table but in most 5 star hotels, this is what normally occurs in a Club Lounge. Most recently when I stayed in the Duxton in Perth.
Room service: I had the two dinners in the room and found all meals were hot and the food was fantastic.
Gym: did not use it this time, however, it has what anyone needs when they are on holidays. Though there is a lot of parks and the river to walk around when I am there.
In summary outstanding, excellent hotel. If you have any requests or needs remember to inform the hotel staff.

We often go on a weekend for the buffet breakfast at the Riverside Restaurant. Today we went on a weekday but it was not the same. You pay $40 per head and the cashier had to use a calculator to work out the $40 x 4 =$160.00. This is not good. The table was under the window and the air-conditioning was so cold it was unpleasant. There was no cream for the pancakes and we were told there wouldn't be any provided. A blow fly was landing on the fresh peaches because they were bruised and 'on the turn'. A limited amount of some items are provided and run out quickly. The restaurant is open from 6.30am - 10.30am. My friend asked for a coffee at a couple of minutes after ten to be told at ten the coffee machine is turned off so no coffee for her. They start cleaning away at just after 10am so your last half hour is spent looking at clean-up time. I was so disappointed because this was a gift to my friends. Sorry but this is our last time now.

An interesting review to write, as this is a really nice hotel, in a really nice location and the staff are great. So what's the go then...? Well, this Intercontinental isn't quite to the level of other Intercon's around the world. The hotel feels just a touch dated - like the Intercon has acquired this location from another hotel chain that was perhaps 4 star, rather than 5 star. Management have done their best at bringing the hotel up to 5 star, but haven't quite managed to get there. The bathrooms in the rooms feel a little dated, the bathrooms in the foyer are even worse. The pool - albeit nice - is tiny, with the deck chairs/cushions needing replacement. Don't get me wrong, still a great hotel - and to be honest - I think the lower price (at least when we booked) reflects that this isn't Intercon is not at the same level as many others.

Fantastic location with great access and views out to the water. We recently stayed three nights to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and the service provided by the staff was amazing. We stayed in an Club room which had fantastic views out to the water. The rooms are a little quirky in shape which was a welcome change from the standard design you seen in so many hotels these days. The bathroom was huge. We had read reviews that the hotel is very dated, and whilst a lot of fixtures are definitely showing their age, the room was very clean and had all the facilities you would need.
What really set this hotel apart was the fantastic service we received. On multiple occasions staff went over and above what we would have expected to make sure our stay was special. Special note has to go to the staff in the club lounge who made us feel very welcome and the duty manager who gave us many personal recommendations of places to visit in the Barossa and surrounding areas.
As other reviews have mentioned, the club lounge operates differently with a nightly themed selection of canapes offered on a plate. This was complimented by a small self service selection of fruits and cheeses. I really enjoyed this setup over the traditional buffet as you could sit back and relax. The food quality each day we dined was fantastic. The only recommendation would be to improve the selection of food on offer at the afternoon tea.
The other hotel facilities were great including a well heated pool, gym, bar and restaurant.
Overall, we do hope the hotel proceeds with its planned refurbishments as, when combined with the service provided this will take the hotel to the next level. Can't wait to return in the future.

This should be a five star review, but one big deficiency kills a star. This was the fifth major hotel in a six stop tour of Australia and Singapore. In every other place there has been a place to plug in a mobile device on both sides of the bed. Not here. Even the cheapest one-star properties in North America cover this need with a USP port in lamp base. Not here. This is a great property in a great location, but they must enter the current century and recognize that mobile devices are more than just phones. I try to be fair in my reviews and avoid nit-picking, but this one fault annoyed me so much I would think twice about returning to this property.

I had booked a weeks stay at the intercontinental adelaide with my family we had 3 rooms in total booked. I have an ambassador platinum membership and had stayed at the hotel previously 5 years ago so I wanted to give it another try.
its location is its biggest asset perfectly next to tennis and sports stadiums and also set on the river which is nice for a walk around and centrally located within a few minutes walk to Rundle mall. On check in the welcome was ok not as good as previous time and there were lots of tennis players staying due to the Adelaide open so we were separated from the players on arrival we were given level 9 which was not too bad would have preferred a higher floor but these had all been allocated to tennis players staff coaches so a bit let down for ambassador recognition they couldn't really upgrade us so gave us some bonus points instead and a couple of drink cards to use in the atrium bar.
we were on the package which included breakfast which was and parking although at moment there is no valet you had to park in the convention centre but it was not very desirable so we asked to leave our car at the front of the hotel instead which they said would be ok and it included a $50 credit per day too which was very good indeed.
the intercontinental is a great hotel the staff really make up for some areas which need a bit of attention the atrium lounge was lovely but could be very slow in service but then again the staff lift the class of the hotel I'm sure once it has its renovation it will be back to her former glory.
room was very spacious and great view of river marble bathroom still in excellent condition and rooms were cleaned very well as it was covid I understand it was a difficult time the restaurant Shiki Japanese was a highlight I recommend a booking as it was very busy Kenny was great he was our chef
we had a lovely time and breakfast was in the atrium lounge due to all tennis players in main dining area they then let us sit in the club lounge which was a much nicer touch and we really enjoyed that on our stay
I would recommend the intercontinental on a good package if you get it she's still a little beauty and staff especially special mentions to both Abraham on front desk he was very kind and understanding and very pleasant top Job and also in club Ganesh who looked after us every morning well done and big shout out to concierge team as well thank you we look forward to coming back again with sparking rooms and hopefully a higher floor :)

Hello, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review, and particularly for your feedback regarding Abraham, Ganesh, and the rest of our fantastic staff - I will be sure to pass it on to the team! I am glad to hear you enjoyed your dinner at Shiki and received such excellent service from our chef de cuisine, Kenny. Thank you for your understanding regarding the changes in place to accommodate both the tennis and the Covid regulations. I am glad to hear that suitable alternatives were generally given, but apologise for any inconvenience you experienced during your stay. We are very excited to have announced a $32 million refurbishment of the hotel, which will include a refresh of our guest rooms, and is due to begin mid-2022. We hope to see you again once the renovations are complete. We thank you for staying at InterContinental Adelaide, and look forward to welcoming you again soon. Michael Gaedtke, General Manager

We booked this hotel in Adelaide for the following reasons;
We needed a holiday to relax and get away from the routine of home caring for the elderly and the young in our family. We haven't been to Adelaide before, We wanted Club Lounge facilities and an outdoor pool to swim and sit by to read and chill out.
First impressions were great. Lovely foyer and reception area. Our room was ready apparently but we were asked to wait 10 mins so that someone could check - ok. The room is large with a view over river and Adelaide oval. The bathroom is also large but with a very narrow entry. The decor is to be seen to be believed. Very outdated but clean. The mini bar and coffee/ tea area is so cramped and old. passable but not 5 star. The cupboard space for suitcases and hanging clothes is very limited so the floor and lounge suite in the room had to suffice
The pool, which was an important part of our choice is well below standard. There are only 3 sun lounges for the whole hotel! People are sitting on the hot cement - today's temperature of 34C made this very uncomfortable without any shade protection. We waited the whole day and did not get access to a sun lounge. As we are both beyond our youthful years and with a husband who has had 2 hip replacements, this was hugely disappointing. No drinks or food are allowed in the pool area apparently so there is no way you can have a refreshing drink or bar service. Some people did bring their own resulting in chips and dip being eaten whilst standing in the pool as they had no where to sit. No tables provided at all. When i spoke to the concierge in regard to the lack of sun lounges, he said he would speak to management. It is not hard to buy a couple of sunlounges from an outdoor furniture store and have them put in position.
The Club Lounge is nice and the staff friendly and attentive though the choice of food is a little limited.
We have another 4 nights here but I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a nice pool to relax and read a book by.
The Intercontinental brand is well known for its 4-5 star facilities, but in this case it leaves us disappointed

Dear JaneE789, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your stay with us. I truly appreciate the time you've taken to provide your insights, and I'm sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. I’m glad you enjoyed our central location, the spaciousness of your room, and the friendly service in the Club Lounge. However, I understand your disappointment with some aspects of your stay, particularly the pool area. I regret that the limited availability of seating caused frustration, especially given your needs for comfort and relaxation. Your comments about the setup and amenities in this area have been noted, and I will review them with our team to explore improvements. Regarding the room, while I’m pleased it was clean and offered lovely views, I acknowledge your feedback about the design and functionality of the space. Third time staying at the intercontinental Adelaide this year and unfortunately will probably be the last. The only highlight was the lovely lady at reception who was training. She did a great job checking us in and bonus that our room was ready early. We had a card slid under our door at 4:30pm saying we missed turn down service for the night and to call housekeeping to arrange a time. I’ve never stayed at a hotel when turn down starts at 4:30pm. My wife called and asked them to come back after 5pm but no one turned up at all. Not a big deal but don’t offer the service if you’re not going to come back. The biggest downside of the stay was the club lounge. Afternoon tea was nothing special. Coleslaw sandwiches and beef and mustard pickles was a bit underwhelming but the staff were polite and quick to bring out food. We were informed at that time that the evening drinks and canapés were moved from 5:30-7:30 to 5:00-7:00 which wasn’t a big deal. Evening drinks came around and unless you were drinking wine it took a considerable amount of time to order another drink. The cold food (buffet style) was very limited and took a long time for the staff to replenish but the biggest problem with myself and several other guests was the hot food. It’s no longer buffet style. They bring around 4 pieces and that’s all your given. Everyone that asked for more was told no as they were too busy to allow seconds. Serval guests were quite vocal about this. The staff didn’t explain what sauces would be on certain items and two of them were quite hot. When I told the staff member this I was told basically bad luck you should have said you don’t like anything spicy. The bloke making the drinks was exceptional as always could not say a bad thing about him. Breakfast the next morning was fine although a bit slow. To pay for access is an extra $139 per person. The way it’s run at the moment I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Like most reviews the hotel is very outdated now. The only thing to be upgraded has been the lifts. We were told during Covid that the hotel was going to start renovations but obviously hasn’t happened. The carpets are stained and worn. The lounge looks like it’s stuck in the 90’s. They are no longer a 5 star hotel and the only thing going for them is the location.

Dear shaneom2021, Thank you so much for your review and for staying with us again. I’m really glad to hear that our team at reception made a great impression during check-in, and I’ll be sure to pass along your feedback. Regarding Club InterContinental, I truly appreciate your thoughts. Our canapé offerings are meant to be light, and we’ve recently refined the service to better align with InterContinental standards. While most guests have responded positively, I’m sorry it didn’t quite hit the mark for you this time. We’ll definitely take your feedback on board as we continue to improve. As for the condition of the hotel, we remain fully committed to refurbishment plans that will elevate the guest experience. While there have been some unforeseen delays in moving forward, we are continuing to work closely with our ownership to ensure these improvements come to life. Your understanding and continued support during this process are truly appreciated. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back in the future for a refreshed and enhanced experience. Warm regards, Josh Davies InterContinental Adelaide

Sorry, I haven’t been on here for a long time. Yes there is a minbar fridge tea and coffee with a kettle provided. Intercontinental was going to be doing major refurb so best to check with them directly before you book this is important to you.
It's probably too late, I just saw this question, sorry. The room I was gives was an accessible room and did indeed have a large bath in it for that reason.
Cheers.
It’s 5:30pm to 8:00pm.. liquors and six bottles of wines white and red three each.. local beers and a sparkling wine. Absolutely one of the best lounge from IHG!
Not to mention they have a kickass industrial Nespresso machine that make fantastic latte with a touch of the button
