Lovely comfortable bed. Large clean modern room. Bathroom and shower are large and modern. The Latest security pin code entry to building and room. Divine breakfast coffee. And reception was full of information on the area.

No personal contact with staff, car vandalized in car park -not ours, drunk/unconcious man in stairwell. Well appointed room, comfortable bed, very clean, quiet placement, near to eateries. Newly refurbished.

Booked a family room for 3 adults for 3 nights over the weekend and when we arrived found the reception area completely deserted. A sign said we should enter the restaurant where the manager would be working. There was very loud music and only one table being occupied but still the manager took about 5 minutes to come to reception to check us in. After he made several jokes about our surnames he gave us keys for room 108 on the first floor. When we got there we were overpowered by the smell of cigarette smoke and realised he had given us a smoking room. The window was set to open about 2 inches so we could not let any more fresh air in. We tried to change rooms but the manager claimed to have no more non-smoking rooms which would accommodate 3 people.

When we asked if we could cancel and try somewhere else the manager became quite nasty and defensive and said it was our fault because we did not specify a non-smoking room. He said we could not cancel and would have to pay the first night's accommodation as 24 hours notice was required.

After enduring the night in the smokiest room on earth with air conditioning which seemed to make it worse we checked out the following morning and will never return.

We have stayed in most of the Motels around North Adelaide, and have finally found the perfect place.
The staff and owners welcome you into the Motel as if it is their home. They have a wonderful rapport with all the guests and you leave with a whole new group of friends, and a desperate need to arrange another trip to stay.
Do yourself a favour and experience hospitality how it should be.
PS Make sure you make time to have the breakfast, it is an brilliant.

Arrived late in the afternoon and tired - were received by very friendly proprietor - the good service lasted throughout the stay - greeted by a tidy, clean and comfortable room - in the morning was treated to a hearty home-cooked breakfast - would stay there again - and car parking was free too

had booked in for family wedding. New baby with us so rooms booked (and checked 3 times). Needed two rooms to accomadate baby but was given a queen size room with cot! ! had to change with another family member. Could not walk barefoot without feet ending up black so could not put baby on floor at all. The whole two rooms were dreary.
I cannot believe this is a four star, in fact it definately IS NOT.
I have travelled the world and would state this was the worst valued ever.
disappointed

We arrived late (9pm) and the reception desk was not open. This didn’t matter as a courtesy email from the establishment prior to our arrival gave us all the codes to get in/out seemlessly. Quite good actually. The room is a bit noisy b/c of the traffic, but it was clean and serviced daily. The sink hot water tap didn’t work, but it wasn’t an issue. Close to a good variety of restaurants. Overall good value.

Actually, we enjoyed our stay at the O 'Connell Inn. As described by other reviewers, the location was most convenient, with many little restaurants close by. The bus stops for Rundle Mall and the Festival Centre were on the doorstep, or a short walk there. The rooms were large, well appointed and well serviced. Yes, there is some noise from the traffic, but what one would expect from a city location.
The only point I have to mention is that there is no more on-site reception; instead, there is a "satellite" reception. If you had provided them with your Australian mobile account, you would have received a text with instructions on how to access the hotel. For us, who had only got our Australian sim cards on arrival in Australia, we were completely in the dark, till we read the sign on the door about having to call up a number, to receive the access instructions.
I thought that the management could have sent us an email or even a Whatsapp message, to make things more convenient. Also, this "satellite reception" procedure should have been mentioned in the description on the advertisement on the website!
However, the other good qualities of the accommodation( and the moderate price) far outweighed the initial dismay at finding ourselves in front of a locked door with no reception.

Booked in Saturday night at 7.30pm, with reception hours closing at 8pm. We had a room away from the traffic so noise was not a problem. Room was clean and functional and a good size; neat, but no frills. Nice decor and a gorgeous shower. Great location in the heart of North Adelaide right next to the cinema. Plenty of parking. We were surprised by a few things. There is no ability to control airconditioning in the room (and nobody available to do this after 8pm). There is one microwave oven for the complex - this is in the laundry, and for us it was one floor down. We booked a late checkout, but still got asked to leave at normal checkout time. We paid $195 for an Executive Room (2 queen beds) which is reasonable for the location.
