There's no doubt that the modern airport hotel is a thing of great convenience.
However, there's a price to be paid for this, and sometimes near enough is good enough.
Unless you have a near-bottomless corporate expense account, sometimes you just want to save a few dollars and spend them somewhere else on your journey.
It wasn't that long ago, in 2018, that Adelaide opened its first airport hotel, the 165-room Atura. It was the first in the country to be connected directly to a terminal building.
However, I've found another perfectly acceptable property within spitting distance of Adelaide airport. I worked out that you’d save at least $50 on a room here compared to the Atura.
The Best Western is a clever and sensible conversion of a classic old motel into a comfortable modern accommodation within easy reach of the terminal. The former beige-brick 1970s Aviator’s Lodge reopened in August 2024 as the thoroughly refreshed Best Western Adelaide Airport, falling into the ‘mid-scale’ range of accommodation.
Yes, it's outside the airport precinct but easily accessible by public transport or a dedicated shuttle at a reasonable extra cost. ($14pp or $20/couple). A lunchtime Uber is about $14.
My room (9) was also an accessible suite. It was large and comfortable, with everything you could possibly want for a brief overnight pre-flight stay. Double-glazed windows and soundproof doors ensured the room stayed quiet. The superbly comfortable bed, massive flat-screen TV, hot shower, minifridge, and breakfast and bar were just a hop and a jump across the driveway.
The restaurant menu offers generous pub-style dishes at reasonable prices. Steaks, pizzas, burgers, and chicken are featured, along with local wines and Coopers Ale on tap. What else could you want?
In almost 30 years of staying at and reviewing hotels, the thing that often lingers in my memory beyond the carpet and wall hangings is the quality of the staff and the warm feelings they leave you with long after you've checked out. This was certainly the case with the Best Western Adelaide Airport, and I want to thank ever-cheery Millie and her team for a most pleasant stay.

The Parador was a fabulous place to stay so close to the airport. My room was exquisitely clean, very quiet and tastefully decorated. The bed was heaven, so comfortable. The manager has a new commuter bus to transfer you to the airport for a very minimal fee. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to try the restaurant meals.
I travel frequently for work and this would have to be one of the best accommodation I have stayed for its quiet rooms, most comfortable beds and impecable cleanliness.

The Hosts and staff of this motel were amazing, they were so welcoming and accommodating for our short stay. The room was spotless, the bed was so comfortable and outside our room was a lovely area where we could sit and enjoy our lunch & relax. There is vending machines for drinks & snacks and a restaurant for dinner. The location is perfect for the airport and harbour town while we went for a short stroll to West Beach. The option to book a direct shuttle bus to the airport is another bonus!

Stayed here for one night as we had an early flight out the next morning.
Modern furnishings, with a very comfortable bed. Not a super spacious room, but just enough for two people for a short stay.
We had a rental car so driving into the city to get some food for dinner was fine (about an 18minute drive into the city center.)
Very convenient to the airport, however we did not have any noise issues either
Safe as it is gated and the gate locks and closes at a certain time in the night and then you use a code to get in.

I can't recommend this motel high enough. A Wow motel.

The room has beenupdatedbrandnew - a king bed with Kitchenette and a court yard.
The bed was like sleeping on a soft, fuffly cloud, so comfortable.
Court yard to yrslf.
The bathroom was large, and spacious shower would fit 2 people. Water pressure is great. Hot showers very welcoming.
The restaurant that is with the motel was amazing, and the service was impeccable.The menu is small but everything that came out looked delicious.
Our steak was cooked perfectly,
Salad was very fresh, chips hot, crunchy, and didn't overtake the plate. Duck spring rolls hot crispy delicious. I'm absolutely glad we didn't overlook coming here.

We had a late minute cancellation with our airline (thanks Jetstar) so we had to fly to another City from Perth to Adelaide for our flight to Cairns. We had to google our accommodation in Adelaide for the night but it was difficult due to the end of the school holidays. After phoning around 15 hotels that were fully booked up or it was too late to book, I was advised by the couple I was sitting next to on the plane to phone Parador Inn to discuss our situation. They were wonderful. The plane was literally taking off on the tarmac and I phoned them to advise our situation. They just said I have your room booking and it's confirmed. They were waiting for us when we arrived on our late flight from Perth and the customer service was just wonderful. I highly recommend! The room was clean and the bedding was so comfortable. Thanks again to a wonderful experience. xxo

The room is clean and tidy with crisp sheets and good pillows, I slept well. The complex is well maintained by Bev and her husband who care about their guests. I walked over to Harbour Town quite easily for some shopping and the airport shuttle dropped me off at 5am to catch my flight.

No noise from the airport or the highway. The room was neat, tidy and clean. The bed comfortable, it was good to know that our car was safe at night, "secured gates", under floor heating worked like a charm on cold Adelaide mornings. The staff were friendly and helpful. Initially we booked in for 2 nights but ended up staying 9 nights.
Great place, we would recommend it and would happily stay again.

My stay in Adelaide was because of a family medical issue and a rushed trip from our home town. Even though though the motel was heavily booked the owner juggled bookings so I had a room every night. The standard of the rooms was excellent…recently remodeled with comfy beds and lovely hot showers. My breakfasts and dinners were amazingly good with a view over the airport (but no plane noise)

Arrived at 8.00pm on Friday, and was met with the opposite of hospitality. A man at the desk who was incredibly annoyed that I tried to tell him I had been told food would be available.
He abused and shouted at me and told me to leave.
So I did. Called a cab, and managed to secure a room at the Atura Hotel at the airport.
Total hospitality there. Chalk and cheese!
