We just spent 5 incredible days at Hayman Island in a premium king lagoon room, and wow, what a trip! The room was spacious, spotless, and had a large balcony with views overlooking the lagoon. While we would have preferred a firmer bed and different pillows, the room was cozy and comfortable for the two of us. The location of the room (125) was perfect, with easy access to the central lanai and the smaller, more intimate pool near Bam Bam restaurant. This side of the property seemed more family friendly, but it was still peaceful and relaxing. Even without our child this time, we could tell there was plenty to keep kids entertained.

The island views were like something straight out of a postcard, turquoise waters, blue skies, and palm trees swaying in the breeze. We had amazing weather, which made lounging by the pool every day a dream, with the option to take a refreshing swim whenever we felt like it.

Each morning, we enjoyed the breakfast at Pacific, where a wide variety of hot and cold items were on offer. If you're sitting outside on the deck, just keep an eye out for cheeky seagulls and cockatoos ready to snatch your food! A table undercover is the way to go if you want to avoid their antics.

Dinner was a highlight as well. We had a 3-course meal included every night and tried all the restaurants. Pacific wowed us with its seafood buffet, Amici was a delight for Italian lovers, and Bam Bam's Asian fusion was on point. The food here really adds to the overall experience.

We also ventured out for the Bali Hai escapade, which was a joy for snorkelling lovers like my husband. Though, we wished we had more than two hours and adding a small picnic would have made it even better. On the flip side, we didn’t feel the sunset cruise was worth the cost. It’s better described as a "sunset float" the boat traveled a short distance, stopped for a while, and returned. The two drinks and small self-serve platter were underwhelming compared to the boat ride to and from the island, which had more substantial food and flowing drinks.

The Whitsunday Lookout hike was a standout for us. Though a bit rugged with loose rocks and debris, the sunset views were nothing short of breathtaking – it felt like we had reached heaven. This spot was one of the island's hidden gems and should be utilised or developed more.

Overall, Hayman Island offers an incredibly peaceful and tranquil vibe, with stunning views and plenty of activities to fill your days. The staff were friendly, and it was tough to say goodbye. We’ll definitely be thinking about a return trip in the future. Highly recommend!

Dear cortneyja, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review of your recent stay with us at Hayman Island! We’re thrilled to hear that you had a relaxing and enjoyable experience, and we’re glad the premium king lagoon room with its stunning views was a highlight of your stay. We truly appreciate your feedback regarding the bed and pillows, and we’ll certainly look into making adjustments to enhance the comfort of our guests. It’s fantastic to hear that you enjoyed the family-friendly atmosphere of the area you stayed in, and we’re glad to know there was plenty to keep everyone entertained. It sounds like the variety of dining experiences, from the seafood buffet at Pacific to the delightful meals at Amici and Bam Bam, added to your overall experience – we’re happy to know the food exceeded expectations! We’ll also take note of your comments on the sunset cruise and picnic on the Bali Hai escapade to explore how we can improve those experiences in the future. Your feedback about the Whitsunday Lookout hike is especially appreciated – it is truly a gem, and we’re excited that you had the chance to experience its breathtaking views. We agree, it’s a spot with a lot of potential for even more development, and we’ll consider how to make it more accessible and highlighted for guests. Thank you again for recommending Hayman Island to others, and we can’t wait to welcome you back for another relaxing tropical getaway! We’re sure your next stay will be just as memorable, if not more. Warm regards, Adrian Levy Resort Manager

We stayed 4 nights on a Luxury Escapes package , this included , arrival and departure from Hamilton island, via their own island ferry, with complimentary drinks and meal box of yummy food, breakfast and a 3 course dinner at any of the three restaurants, they were all excellent…our favourites were Amici and Bam Bam.
( the Curlews also like to wander around, we found them to be pleasantly distracting and very cute)

We stayed in Room#336, 3rd floor, King premium lagoon - Ocean view, spacious, clean, huge ensuite with a bath, lounge and dining area, balcony ( doors best kept only slightly ajar, as yellow crested cockatoos like to enter). Hayman Island water bottles and beach bag to keep, a nice touch. We did find using the switch panel key pads for all lights, drapes and ceiling fans a bit confusing….but got there in the end.

The gardens, pools and surrounds are perfectly maintained by conscientious Staff. A cafe is also available for light snacks and cool drinks, which we enjoyed.

On the negative side, our room basically only received Housekeeping 2 out of the 4 days, not sure why, and only after making a complaint at Reception with Isabella, who by the way was very apologetic, did they arrive at 8.30 pm on the eve of our departure! We’ve not experienced this in a Resort of this calibre and were left very disappointed .

Dear Cathy147, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed so many aspects of your visit, from the seamless ferry transfer and delightful dining experiences at Amici and Bam Bam. We’re pleased that you found the grounds, pools, and gardens well-maintained and enjoyed the light bites at our café. However, I want to sincerely apologise for the housekeeping oversight during your stay. This is certainly not the standard of service we strive to provide. While I’m glad Isabella was able to assist, I completely understand your frustration with the delayed response and the inconsistency in servicing your room. Please know that we are addressing this matter with our housekeeping team to ensure such issues do not recur. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve and uphold the high standards our guests expect and deserve. We hope that despite this shortfall, the positive aspects of your stay will encourage you to visit us again. It would be our pleasure to provide you with the flawless experience you deserve. Warm regards, Adrian Levy Resort Manager

surprising improvements since Intercontinental have revamped this resort. beach is clean and wide, no shortage of chairs however if to be picky I would suggest new towels are in order (the beachtowel old, faded, frayed and felt like being at a ymca) and add another restaurant option. rooms were large and comfortable, staff doing their best and we all know australia does not have a 'hospitality' mentality however the vittoria coffee was excellent, kid friendly, beautiful location and a special shout out to mary alm and atama for mine, went that extra yard to be charming when some of the staff were hassled and stressed looking all the time. lerts hope they can keep the quality up and add another quality dining restaurant as you dont have much choice on a single-resort island.

Dear EmaJayKay, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us! We're so glad to hear you enjoyed the improvements we've made since the resort's renovation and that you appreciated the beach, spacious rooms, and beautiful location. We also truly value your kind words about Marie and Atama—they’re both wonderful members of our team, and we’re thrilled they made a positive impact on your stay. We take your comments about the beach towels and dining options to heart. Your feedback is important to us, and we’re already looking into refreshing the towels to ensure a more comfortable experience. Additionally, we are always evaluating ways to enhance our dining offerings, and we’ll certainly keep your suggestion for another restaurant in mind. Such a shame this once beautiful resort has gone down hill over the past few years.

Being a frequent traveller to Hayman over the past few years, it's gone from amazing and great to an average hotel run by visa backpackers.

Pros: The location is faultless as are the gardens ....Bam bam restaurant is by far the best of the 3.

Sadly it ends there.

Cons: Dirty bathroom I recommend you check for hair of the previous occupants.
Soft lumpy pillows.
No longer offer a turn down service.
2 days to fix the light bulbs in the bathroom.

Restaurant service is terrible. When you do get served, they forget half the order. Food luke warm at best. Not what you'd expect as the city prices charged. The breakfast buffet had no tongs for the fruit being strawberries, grapes, cherries and the like, I saw many a hand rummaging for the good pickings.

Water activities roughly for 3 hours a day, we understand it's tidal but could have been longer.

Pool towels in short supply, they should be provided in the room to stop some people taking 6 to 8 per couple. Equally the pool loungers need clearing if not used for an hour or so. Many times we watched guests "bar" a spot at 6am and disappear for ages. The infinity pool needs a good clean to remove the mould around the rim.

The transfer over used to have a lovely food offering, now it is popcorn, 3 grapes and a little cake, for a luxury transfer it was disappointing.

Overall our stay was below par for what used to be our favourite escape.

We are regular travellers and thought we would try the exclusive resort in Hayman island. Unfortunately it was a bit disappointed with everything in general. Food varieties are very limited and if you are looking for a luxury fine dining, you may be disappointed like me. Cleaninless of the hotel room is not up to a 5 stars standard nor even a 3 stars hotel to say the least. We had dirty marks on the bath towels, very rusty kettle and housekeeping kept forgetting to replenish amenities and new towels in the room. Our welcome fruit baskets were moldy and we ate some without realising!! We had to keep calling reception to make request for the standard service that I would expect from a 5 stars hotel. Staff in general were very polite and helpful but that didn't really compensate the basic cleaninless standard that I would expect from a well reputable brand.
We had been to Hamilton Island with similar pricing and probably would recommend that over Hayman Island. I chose this resort due to the Intercontinental brand but felt a bit disappointed.

Staying in this hotel is supposed to be a pleasant experience, but it was frustrating and disappointing.

When we arrived at the hotel nobody told us that during the day the housekeeping staff could enter our room at any time. The first evening before going dinner we left our stuff on the table (including my wife’s wallet). When we came back to the room after dinner around 9pm we realized that someone had been in our room leaving towels that we did not ask. At that moment we saw that in the wallet there were 100 AUD less. Obviously if we had got that information we wouldn’t have left the wallet out of the security box.

We have paid for our stay more than $AU 6.300 so $AU 100 don’t make the difference. However, the treatment received made the difference. We made several attempts to resolve the issue with the hotel staff. We reported the problem to the front desk, and they sent a security guy (Paul Senese) to start an investigation. However, security team was unable to fix the problem, and we were left with a less than satisfactory experience at the hotel during our stay. We also spoke to one of the hotel managers, who promised to look into the matter and get back to us with a solution. Unfortunately, we did not receive any follow-up from the hotel staff until checking out. We were extremely dissatisfied with the resolution provided by the manager.

We expected to receive a certain level of service, and we feel that the issue we faced was not handled appropriately. This issue greatly affected our ability to enjoy our stay, and we believe it falls well below the standards expected of a hotel of this caliber.

After those days, the 6th November,2023, Ben Matters (Director of Guest Services) send us and email to apologise for the experience that we encountered. He told us he would be refunding us the amount of $100 back onto our card but we never receive the confirmation of that.

We were fortunate enough to stay for 5 nights over the Christmas break with family

The resort was very busy, most notably at the buffet breakfast, however there was always an opportunity to find your own space, especially on the beach

Breakfast had some interesting dishes including curries, Christmas ham, pork belly, as well as fruits such as lychees and the ever popular juicer

The weather was sublime and I was able to hike to the lookout and enjoy the view

The food was great at essentially Sydney prices not unreasonable for an island location

I note that some reviewers commented on the younger staff around the resort however we live in a country of an unemployment rate of 4% so one would expect this,

Compared to our previous trip during Covid we actually had more fun this time with a lighter atmosphere and great service

The family had relaxing and wonderful time here

A stunning property with amazing facilities. The pools are huge and there is easy access to the beach. Rooms are large and very nice, but ask where your room is located we were in 302 which was a very very long walk so wouldn’t be ideal for some people. The activities available are very good, the team at the marina are very helpful and we enjoyed the glass bottom boat trip, jet skiing and an excursion to snorkel at Langford Island. The weakness of the hotel is its food and beverage which is very below average. Food quality is ok (although we had to send one dish back at Pacific restaurant) the problem is service. There are lots of staff but they are not well trained nor supervised properly. So there are unnecessary and annoying queues to be seated at breakfast (we saw quite a few frustrated guests just walk in as they were not prepared to wait). Tables are not cleared. We were given incorrect information by staff (eg being told by a breakfast waitress “sorry there is no pineapple we are expecting it to be delivered by tomorrow” but then I asked a passing chef who quickly brought me some!). In Bam Bam we were seated at a table directly by the kitchen door and the waiter seemed very surprised when we asked to be moved to one of the many other available tables in a quieter/more pleasant location! Opening hours for the pool bars (11.30am till 4pm) are too short there were lots of guests including us wanting to eat or drink before and after these times. Also BEWARE! If you eat at the pool restaurants particularly Aqua the birds swoop down and steal food straight from your plate!! On our first day we saw a seagull snatch a whole taco from the plate in front of a guest on a neighbouring table!! So if we ate outside we kept a napkin over our food the whole time!! We warned others, but strangely staff did not warn anyone nor made attempts to shoo the birds away? We like to tip staff in cash and I found I only had $100 bills so asked front desk if they could split these into smaller bills. I was told no they couldn’t as this is a cashless resort. I completely understand they don’t take any cash payments, but not to be able to assist in this way is a poor management decision. The staff member who gave me this reply said the staff felt they are losing out by not getting cash tips.
Lots of other small things you don’t expect at an expensive InterContinental hotel eg in our room the cups didn’t fit the coffee machine, the WC constantly trickled water, the electrically operated curtains are either fully open or shut you can’t have them part open, minibar is minimally stocked. The App is good but was never introduced to us prior to or on our arrival, I found it by chance on last day of our stay. So overall a beautiful location, but needs to significantly improve f&b.

Dear CotswoldVisitor1234, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us at InterContinental Hayman Island Resort. We appreciate your honest review, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve and enhance the overall guest experience. We're pleased to hear that you found our island property stunning, with excellent facilities, and ease of access to our pool options and private beach. However, we are truly sorry to hear that you encountered some issues during your stay. We appreciate your comments about room locations, and we understand the importance of providing information about room layouts to guests. We will certainly review the current information and where we can enhance this to avoid any misinformation. It's great to hear that you enjoyed the activities available, and the positive interactions with our marina team. We'll pass along your kind words to them. We apologise for the issues you experienced with our food and beverage services. We take your feedback seriously and will address the service concerns with our team to ensure that our staff is well-trained and supervised properly to provide a seamless dining experience. Your feedback regarding the service at the Pacific restaurant is particularly concerning, and we will investigate this matter further. Whilst we’re privileged to be in such a tropical location with an abundance of wildlife, unfortunately, the birds and their actions are outside of our control. We will continue to manage as best as possible to minimise disturbance. Your comments about the smaller issues in your room are duly noted, and we will address these concerns to ensure that all aspects of our guests' stay meet expectations. Additionally, we have readdressed the importance of explaining our fantastic complimentary app during our arrival resort tour. We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences you encountered and thank you for your constructive feedback. We value your input as it helps us make improvements to provide a better guest experience. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide a more satisfying stay. Warm regards, Adrian Levy Resort Manager

The Hotel service is not up to the standard of a 5 Star: The cleaning of the room was poor, they never changed the waste in the toilet trash can. The reservation of the excursions and dinners all outside the agreed day: Even today, January 9, is my birthday and the special dinner that my partner reserved for tonight was made yesterday, without even the possibility of changing it because it was a hotel error.
To use e; spa, you must reserve any treatment two days before, so if you come for 5 days, you can't do anything. The same thing happens with excursions: if the weather is bad that day, you can no longer reschedule them even if you want to pay for them again, because they do not have sufficient availability of services.
We stayed in a Pavilion, the facility is beautiful, but the exit to the sea is unreal compared to the photos, because during the day you have at least 600 meters of walking along the stones until you see the shore.
The staff is very friendly, but they are not trained to offer good service. A shame, not at all recommended.

The big pool isn’t heated but the other pool is, they felt the same to me but we were there in Summer. The ocean temp is sometimes as nice as the pool temperature. You might find the heated pool more effective in the cooler months. Hope this helps, it’s a lovely resort, enjoy your stay.

Hi there are walks around the island, didn't see any snakes. No crocs in the Whitsundays on the islands.

Just checking if you still get complimentary water bottles supplied by the resort.

Complimentary water bottles are part of your room gift and water stations are all over the resort with chilled water.

"Pool rooms are nicer. Download the app and get connected for daily schedules and orders. Get a spot by the pool early. "
