Nestled close to the harbour, the Reef View Hotel offers stunning vistas and easy access to dining, which many guests appreciate despite the premium price. While the hotel's amenities, including the pool and complimentary water activities, are a highlight, some visitors feel that the accommodation and services do not justify the high costs. The service received mixed reviews, with some guests encountering friendly staff and others disappointed by unprofessionalism. The hotel's atmosphere and cleanliness receive varied feedback, with calls for updated decor and more thorough maintenance in places.

Great stay at the Reef View Hotel. We stayed in the Garden View Apartments that were nice and renovated with lovely views. Our initial rooms (we had two) were a bit noisy but we really couldn’t fault Guest Services and the Manager for listening to us and accomodating our concerns. Gosh it made a huge difference. For our entire stay, we couldn’t fault the service or the hotel - from the transfers and welcome at the airport to the well coordinated shuttles back to the airport.

Great music at the Reef Lounge as well.

High Five Reef View and Hamilton island. Loved our stay. Everything about it.

Wonderful 7 night stay at the Reef View Hotel. Could not fault the hotel in the slightest. There is a renovation program ongoing, renovating a few rooms at a time, but it didn't impact on our stay at all. Could not believe the negative reviews I've read on trip advisor. Room was spacious, clean and the view towards catseye beach is great. Breakfast buffet was great with a choice of 3 locations - large selection of fresh fruit, cereals, toast etc and the usual full english breakfast. Nice large pool onsite, always fresh towels on the sun loungers in the morning. Could also use the other pools in the area, one with a swim up bar.
We tried most of the restaurants while there and all are good. Favourite was Manta Ray, excellent food and a great outlook over the marina for dinner while the sun is setting.
Even though check out is at 10am, there is a departure lounge with lockers that can be used, so you can use the pool and have a shower before you catch your flight home. (complimentary)
Couldn't fault the housekeeping, daily service including washing cups / wine glasses etc.
Overall we had an excellent stay and would recommend to others.

We stayed at the Reef View in a coral sea view room for 6 nights in mid June. If it is in your price range, I would highly recommend a coral sea view room – the views are amazing. The outside of the hotel is looking very tired but it looks like they have done a renovation of the lobby and the Pool Terrace restaurant. Whilst we were there they were putting the finishing touches to the new bar which looks great so that would be an absolute plus when that opens. The rooms are large and spacious however the bathroom could definitely do with a makeover and new mattresses would be a godsend (ours was like sleeping on a water bed). Very little space to put your clothes though. Ours had no drawers which was very odd as was the cupboard/wardrobe in the bathroom. We had to put our clothes in a very small cupboard in the desk under the tv. The buffet breakfast is good with a wide variety to choose from. We hired a buggy for the day but you don't really need one as the shuttle bus comes frequently. We mainly used it to do a trip around the island to have a look, stock up on some supplies at IGA and to get to One Tree Hill for sunset drinks. If your flight is in the afternoon, the departure lounge is fantastic. You can spend the morning at the pool and then go and have a shower and get changed before your flight.

One big thing the hotel needs to address is the complimentary shuttle bus to the airport. They need to prioritise those travelling on the first flight out. On the day we left, it was very busy and there was a very rude lady in a group of 16 who pushed in front of families with small children and people who had clearly been waiting before this group and insisted that her group all get on the bus. The poor staff were railroaded by this woman and could do nothing. By the time we got to the airport on the third bus out, we nearly missed our bag drop and noticed that the group of 16 were on a much later flight than the rest of us.

At least two months before you arrive, make sure you have downloaded the Hamilton Island app and booked your restaurants and buggy hire so you don't miss out. Things are expensive so bring your money with you. Everything is cashless but if you need to do some washing, the washing machines and dryers take gold coins only.

A lot of the staff were in training but everyone was friendly and very accommodating.

My girlfriends and I travelling to Hamilton Island for the weekend for a long overdue catch up. I’m a local and wanted to show of our beautiful region and I knew the island was going to be the perfect spot. We literally had the best time of our lives. We arrived and loved our room it had the most spectacular view of the ocean. We dumped our bags and it was straight to the swim-up pool bar and lunch. We loved the light menu options at the Sails restaurant and the choices of wine. We booked onto the sunset sail and it was great value for money with a cheese platter and bottomless bubbles. I highly recommend doing this if you’re on the island.
This provides another view of the island from the water and offers beautiful photo opportunities and shows how well maintained the island is. We had dinner at Romano the Italian and it was delicious. We felt well and truly spoilt the whole time we were there. One of the highlights is driving around the island and taking photos at all the lookout locations. The island is absolutely stunning in every way. If you’re looking for a quick escape to Paradise with family or friends, I highly recommend visiting Hamilton Island. I don’t believe there is anyone in Australis that offers such an incredible experience. I can’t wait to come back and visit with my children soon.

We came to Hamilton Island with our family of six and our nephew. We had an awesome three days together - swimming at Catseye Beach, visiting reef world with Whitsunday Cruises and a lovely sunset sail with explore. It was brilliant.

We stayed at the reef hotel in two rooms and while the rooms were a bit tired, they were really adequate. Incredible views daily, plentiful breakfast, good size rooms and we made the most of the swimming pool and the included activities at Catseye beach.

Then, my youngest daughter tested positive for COVID. Those in her room, immediately went into 7 days isolation while the other half of the family finished the holidays.

The reef view hotel staff were excellent. We needed to stay an extra week longer to ensure we had recovered from COVID. We were given a discounted room rate, our included breakfast became room service breakfast and the staff were helpful in trying to make our iso go smoothly. We were even given an order form for IGA and the staff would have done a shop for us, in order to have some of our own food to eat during iso. Although we did not use this, it was a great service to be offered.

Thankfully, we were able to enjoy a few days out of iso before heading home.

When on check out, we had a few issues (the rooms were not cleaned when they told us they would be), but the reef view hotel management generously compensated us. Brilliant customer service.

Our only challenge was no cooking facilities (understandably) and limited choices for room service over 7 days. Pizza delivers, but no other restaurants do and the room service was limited in options.

However, we hope to definitely come back.

The big issues with this hotel is the lack of sun loungers however I feel this is an issue on the island that needs addressing.
The hotel is a little dated but for the price and location you can’t argue, if you are looking for a hotel to spend a lot of time in don’t stay here. If you are looking for a good balcony to enjoy a drink after being at the pool or beach all day then this is a great hotel.
I read that they are due to close to refurbish however are room was very nice, the air con would only go down to 22 which I put down to its age and the hotel trying to be more environmentally friendly but that wasn’t really cool enough and if you had a family in the room (it was just me and my wife) then I doubt it would have been cool enough.
Ultimately my pros are -
Cost
Location
Beds (super comfortable)

Negatives
Shoddy AC
Not enough sun loungers

Anyone who complained about the golf buggies should have read that you need to prebook to guarantee having one, we walked or caught the bus a lot however had a buggy for 2 hours which was great fun to explore the island.

I would come back here in a heartbeat and would be happy to stay at the Reef again

Was such a great and easy trip with the family, we hopped on a plane from Melbourne and in 3.5 hours we flew direct to Hamilton Island and was driven straight to the hotel. That flight is perfect for young kids, as they are just about to hit the wall when your there. The resort was under-going some renovations, as the island is still repairing all the damage from cyclones several years ago, but it didn't detract from what's there and things to do.

The views are amazing and driving the golf carts around the island is lots of fun!! Yes, it's not Bali cheap, but reasonable (maybe not the golf cart hire cost!!).
We stayed in one of the rooms on the 4th floor, the views were still fantastic and heaps of room, 2 king beds, couch TV and balcony left plenty of room for a family of 4. The bathroom was so large it made it so easy having a separate bath and room to move all 4 bodies.

The food at the hotel was really nice and the cost was similar to normal restaurant prices. Breakfast included was fantastic each day and meant lunch wasn’t required. The kids enjoyed the pool and other activities on offer i.e. tennis, beach, boat ride etc.
The township wasn’t far, which also had an IGA so the Island offer everything you could want via free bus rides or a nice stroll.

The Thai restaurant was amazing and I definitely recommend you go there if visiting the Island. We had such a lovely holiday I can’t wait to go back again!!
The only bad thing to note was the design of the building seemed to make balcony hopping look like a fun challenge, I wouldn’t want teens left alone to explore that. I think the Hotel would do well to add balcony doors or a joining door to neighbours, so for groups it’s easy to visit one another.

Recently refurbished and well located. Covid restrictions were well adapted. Sea views from upper apartments. Staff friendly and helpful. The included breakfast excellent, and was also available at Sails Restaurant on the beachfront nearby. Items purchased on the island can be charged to your room. While we were there the island was completely cash-free.Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos can be a nuisance on the balcony. They make a huge mess of the rooms if the balcony doors are left open.
Special mention to Ross, the Green bus driver, who gave excellent guidance and advice.
Romanos restaurant also excellent for location and quality of food and service.
Recommend the sunset catamaran cruise - drinks and nibbles provided, and we were visited by a large pod of pilot whales.
Unfortunately the Yacht Club was closed due Covid, but a great looking building that would be popular for drinks and meals when open.
Strongly recommend protective footwear in the water as the sea bed has rough stoney areas. My wife simply took an old pair of the original type Crocs which were very effective........

We were forwarned that a lot of restaurants weren’t reopened on 1 August with the rest of the resort, but it did make food variety very limited for a 1 week stay. The poolside restaurant at reef view hotel is not equipped to serve a la carte breakfast (usually buffet but switched to a la carte due to COVID) with a lengthy wait to be seated (>30 mins at 9am) and > 1 hour wait for food.
The swim up bar is not open, with service only on the dry side during limited hours (12pm - 4pm) and fairly pricey ($10 beers, $19 basic cocktails). Although the website says bar hours “till late” the few bars that were open were all closed by 9:30pm (when asked where we could get a drink we were told “room service”; we didn’t really come here to drink in our room at 9:30 pm).
The island is beautiful with lots to do during the day (swimming, snorkeling, hiking, tennis, paddle boarding etc) but night time is very limited. It was also strange that the health club (including Putt Putt and tennis) was closed on the weekend, which seemed to be when the resort was busiest. Putt Putt is also now an upcharge ($17.50 per person) whereas it used to be free. I don’t think the cost is justified as it is fairly basic.
If it weren’t for COVID restricting travel there are many better value offerings in Asia that would cost less all up.
I understand that they are still getting back up to speed after an extended period of being closed (needing to rehire / retrain staff etc), and the staff that were there were doing a great job and always friendly but overall the offering was disappointing for the price being charged.

The rooms have great ocean views and the verandah is a really great place to relax during the day and evening. The hotel is central with a regular free bus service to get around with the beach less than 200 meters from hotel entry. We enjoyed the fine dining restaurants but we were disappointed that it was so difficult to book them. Hamilton Island is suffering from a lack of staff like many hospitality locations which impacted the availability of bookings. It would have been better if the Hamilton Island venues prompted people with bookings to make before arrival on the island. There are onsite self-service laundry facilities that are coin-operated.
