Everything everyone says about the bird-life/sea-life/turtles is true. We sat on the bar patio at sunset and watched sharks cruise the shallows below. We saw rays breaching off the jetty and snorkeled over rays that exploded out of the sand. It's hard to look up or down without seeing birds. The barrier reef is incredible, with deep coral, rich in...

Fantastic location for getting close to the turtles and 'on the door step' snorkeling. We traveled with our grandchildren and it was a magical place for them. The resort itself was disappointing, It was shabby, rooms tired, and although understanding the island is full of birds a greater effort is required to keep the place clean. Like others we found...

Highlight of our trip seeing all of the nature so closely, the accommodation was basic and the food expensive for what it is but don't let that put you off. The Snorkelling / Scuba diving is World Class. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. This is a must do for anyone on the East Coast.

This place is really all about the location: -one of the few places you can see baby turtles hatch and run out to the sea -it's home to 200,000 nesting birds, which is kind of a stunning level of birds -it's on the Great Barrier Reef, so you only need the shortest of boat rides to get fantastic diving, and...

At Heron Island you have the chance to recharge, surrounded by turtles, reef and beautiful beaches. Opportunities to snorkel and dive. There are talks to help you understand and interact with the wildlife, and to protect and appreciate your surroundings.

It's a 2-4 hr crossing to Heron, from Gladstone, by boat. This is a pleasant experience in fine weather, as you sail away from the mainland past other islands and moored ships until eventually you arrive at the boat channel / jetty of Heron. The initial view is stunning, it's the tropical dream of crystal clear ocean over coral reefs...

There was as little or as much to do as you wanted, I just relaxed with no pressure to do anything at all. The staff was great, the scenery & wildlife was beaut, bit disappointed with the quality of restaurant meals

Island and reef are stunning, truly a natural wonder of the world. Resort itself is tired and very much needs updating. Birds, birds, birds everywhere with sounds, smells and poop. Staff are excellent! University of Queensland research centre an added benefit

Very removed from the world's issues. Nice beaches, great snorkeling. Staff members were quite helpful and knowledgeable. This was our second trip and we felt the same level of comfort and joy. Sun, sand beautiful fish and coral. What more could you want?

Amazing memories, turtles hatching, turtle laying, snorkelling straight off the beach, diving, bird watching, touring research facility. All while in comfortable but not flashy accomodation. Decent food and great service.
