Perfect Elopement. Where to begin? Comfort! The beds are so comfortable and deck is the lounge of your dreams. It's always perfect swimming conditions because if the tide is too high you have the pool! When the tide is a lovely height snorkelling is extravagant! There is coral gardens! You are literally over the great barrier reef and I had the privilege of seeing angel fish, clown fish, giant trevally and parrot fish! When we went kayaking we saw many turtles, sometimes from the deck with our morning coffee! We Eloped and had our honeymoon on this vacation and not only was I blessed to marry the man of my dreams it came with a stress free adventure. They caretakers always helped us with our every need and Gene especially when we needed some advice. It was private, romantic and perfect. I can't say I've ever been on a better holiday and my husband and I will be back here for our next one. It was the perfect place to get married because as soon as the wedding was over we got to do our favourite thing: swim ❤❤❤ if you love the ocean this is the perfect place for you.

My son & daughter-in-law, 2 of the grandsons and myself finally made it to East Bedarra after having to postpone our trip due to COVID restrictions. When they say..”Good things come to those that wait”, they weren’t joking!!! Wow, the island was everything I imagined it to be. Warren, our driver, arrived at our hotel exactly when he said he would, and gave us an informative wonderful drive down to mission beach where our boat was waiting to take us to paradise. From when we stepped off the boat into the warm tropical waters of FNQ, I was in love with the place. The house was amazing, felt like home instantly and the outdoor living area was enormous. We spent most of our time, (when we weren’t out exploring the island) on the deck. There was a double and a single canoe for us to use if wanted and we sure did use them. Every day we paddled round to explore new spots, 3 adults with a child perched somewhere on each canoe, life vests and stinger suits provided if needed, but we opted to live life on the edge that week. We paddled, swam and fished more than I’ve done in the last 2 years combined. We ate my home cooked meals at night on the deck, whilst watching movies on the large television perched up high on the deck wall. I took off on my own on one of the days and spent the whole day walking along the most beautiful beach I’ve ever been too, swimming, sun baking, collecting shells and just totally enjoying being the only person in paradise for miles. The weather was simply perfect the whole time. I’ve promised myself that I’m coming back. It was a week that my grandchildren will remember for ever, my 4 year old grandson commented on the boat ride back to Mission Beach that he misses his island home already. Treat yourself and go there, you won’t be disappointed 🥰

East bedarra is absolute magic. Words and reviews will never give you the full picture. You have to see it to believe it. We reached out to east bedarra in September as we were wanting to elope and get married there. We dealt with Sue who was amazing. She organised Absolutley everything for us, and it was absolute perfection from the wedding to the honeymoon. There was a couple of hiccups along the way such as not being able to get on the boat on the day we arrived due to it being too late, and weather conditions. A helpful tip is to get the earliest flight into cairns as possible, as if you go a bit later you won’t be able to get out there on the day. The seas were incredibly rough on the day we went over so the trip was just short of an hour and Absolutley horrendous, however the trip back was splendid and around 14 minutes, on crystal clear calm waters. A few tips to consider before going- - it’s a long drive down to mission beach. around 2.5 hours but our driver organised by Sue was amazing and made it a very comfortable trip. - stock up on food and water!! You don’t want to be short on anything out there as you cant get back to the mainland to shop until your due back. - there is no aircon!!!! if you cant handle heat and humidity please reconsider. there are fans but it is still very hot. lucky we could just jump in the pool when it was very hot, but if you dont do well in heat it probably isnt for you. - it is solar run. we ran out of power at 2am on our last night and were very hot we couldnt sleep. we didnt want to wake the caretakers, so had to tough it out. - it is supposed to be private but we found there were lots of people and kids on our beach which was incredibly frustrating. they were leaving their kayaks around and were very annoying. also lots of boats pulling up to our beach and turning around when they realised it was private property, except one who ignored the signs and parked their boat there all day. other than these few things, this place was nothing short of magical, and we will be back for our 10 year anniversary! the care takers on the island were lovely too! would recommend.

Amazing!!! Sue and her team and just too good, everything was organised to get us to the island from Cairns airport. The facilities and accommodation are stunning. The caretaker was lovely and responded to any questions in just a few minutes and made sure everything was perfect. There was an issue with filling the pool on the first night, but they went above and beyond to get the issue sorted ASAP for us. The beach, reef and island are beautiful and we had so much fun exploring on the kayak and snorkling. Best destination for our honeymoon and I wouldn't change a thing.

My partner and I travelled to this perfect paradise in July 2021. Our friend's had organised the trip so we weren't sure what to expect. East Bedarra exceeded any expectations we could have possibly imagine. Words really can't explain it. The barrier reef literally at your back door, on a private tropical island, with its own private beach, balcony and out door entertaining area and pool. I love that is environmentally conscious and the rain catchers. If you're into snorkelling/free diving as well, literally out the front is phenomenal - giant clams, huge brain coral and tree coral, abundant fish life, it was wild! The caretakers were delightful and helpful and residence was gorgeous as well. Can't wait to get a chance to come back and have another private and luxurious escape, off the beaten track. I loved it! Thanks for having us.

Heading to this retreat, I had high very expectations. We had prepared our food and drink purchases the day before (self catering due to remote location) and set off on a beautiful 2 hr drive down from Cairns towards Mission Beach along the Great Green Way (stopping at Babinda for refreshments and a quick detour to the Babinda Boulders). The personal ferry service to the island ($500 total cost for return trip) was a large boat that easily swallowed us and all our food bags and boxes with very friendly staff and even a spot to park our car on the premises. We were met on the beach by the patient and helpful caretakers and despite the rainy weather the first impressions of the house still left us gobsmacked. The location is absolutely stunning and no photos will do this place justice. It sits next to a small sandy beach atop some large boulders with the sea actually rising below the spacious deck at high tide. The house itself is the most luxurious remote pad I have ever seen with a well equipped kitchen including large fridge/freezer for all the good food you bring along. There is a gas stove top and a dishwasher and Nespresso coffee pod machine. No oven - but you do have a large gas Weber BBQ on the patio with the most amazing views. 2 lovely comfy bedrooms and one large bathroom complete the setup. As if all the beach and sea is not enough, you have a pool filled with sea water to relax in. And kayaks….and snorkelling gear…and wifi and music speaker…and day bed….and large TV on the deck with Netflix. Do keep in mind you are completely off grid and on solar power. If you want the battery to last overnight you cannot switch on the dishwasher or have too many lights on at the same time. The caretakers do have a backup generator…just in case. I had excellent phone reception on Telstra and was able to connect easily to my office server (not that you would probably want to). I have lived in Far North Queensland for the last 15 years and been to most local resorts. If you are looking for great restaurants, spas and cannot live without all the amenities you have plenty of other choices around here and this place is not for you. If you desire to be transported to an unspoilt romantic paradise island in your stunning luxury cocoon, in almost total privacy, where you swim out to explore your own reef then get back to your cooking and wine sipping whilst gazing over the pristine clear sea, absorbing the most spellbinding scenery and regenerate, then….this is it! THIS is Australia.

Went just got back from spending 3 magical nights on this picture perfect retreat, it was nothing short of spectacular From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Maggie & Mike the caretakers the relax mode had already kicked in. Maggie & Mike extremely friendly & helpful in showing us all that this luxury retreat was all about. The location was stunning, the facilities were on point and the ocean view from the beautiful deck was amazing. From watching turtles & and abundance of fish to cooking beautiful food on the Weber and settling in to first night having a drink on the rocks (called the point) to watch the sunset to returning to the deck to lay under the stars. This is the perfect location to just relax and do nothing or to use any of the equipment provided to explore the island in a canoe or to snorkel around the close reefs or to just sip a few drinks and relax, this is a must do retreat Has to be added to bucket list We have already contacted Gene to see when it is next available. Also when Gene says clothes are optional he wasn’t joking We could have packed everything we needed for 2 people in 1 carry on suitcase 🤭 I also have to mention the transport provided by Gene Warren was our driver for every leg of our journey which also included a couple of nights at Genes other wonderland Misty Mountain . He was absolutely fantastic with his pristine vehicles to his knowledge of the region to his fantastic friendly personality If you are ever traveling to cairns and need transport to either Port Douglas or Mission beach or anywhere in that region , then I can highly recommend him if I could rate him out of 10 he would get an 11+ We actually missed our flight home and for Warren this was not a problem, he recommended a beautiful hotel in Cairns and took us there and returned next morning to take us back to airport . After having stayed at the all inclusive resort the month before, we returned to Bedarra and stayed here for a week. Initially hesitant because we had to fully self cater, that concern quickly drifted off in the distance once we arrived at this secluded and private sanctuary! Beautifully clean this place has to be walked into to appreciate its unique location. Having stayed on a lot of islands we haven’t stayed anywhere as unique as this with the water literally coming underneath the deck at high tides and a lovely backdrop to watching a movie or 2 at night! The caretakers told us to expect a pesky black chook to come visit that they had tried to catch to remove from the island that morning so I took that as a challenge to catch her at the end of our stay....after falling in love with our little pet and naming her ‘Rambo Gene’ (very stylish black feathered chook!) I did feel bad about catching her for return to the mainland and as you can see from the photo she was not happy!! Having said that, all future guests won’t have to dodge the daily ‘deposits’ she left on the deck that we were cleaning up! You feel so close with nature and the ocean here it’s hard to describe how peaceful it is. If you are trying to decide on this place just book it, it is a rare and unique place to stay!! Having to self cater was the best as you can eat at your leisure and not feel any pressure of set meal times...and the scenery while cooking! Stunning sunsets, rock formations and great fishing are just the start to a thoroughly relaxing stay. Oh...and the saltwater pool that is emptied and filled for every stay was amazing!!!! Gene thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us for the week, it’s certainly in the best location on the island!

East Bedarra Retreat was pure magic. You have the entire gorgeous house to yourself and it feels like you’re just about the only people on the whole island. A stunning, turquoise water private swimming area right in front of the house was amazing for cooling off and seeing the abundant marine life such as beautiful small reef sharks, turtles, and fish. Ending the day with an Aperol Spritz on the balcony while watching the sun set was divine. The house itself was spacious and had everything you need to have an amazing stay. We even had our groceries (and alcohol!) delivered by water taxi, waiting for us unpacked when we got to the house. The team looked after us so well and I can not recommend a more dreamy holiday in all of Australia.

My husband and I spent four nights at this stunning retreat and we were absolutely in awe of the gorgeous location. The house is literally on the waterline. Every night we would go to sleep to the gentle sound of the waves and we would wake up and walk outside to a view that, honestly, pictures can’t do justice to. The accomodation - Firstly, everything was really clean. There were rose petals on the bed and we were met on the beach by the caretakers who talked us through everything about the place - what walks were around etc etc. Everything we could possibly need was provided with kayaks, snorkelling gear, fishing reels and hooks - even board games. There’s a television in the bedroom and in the outdoor living area (where we spent most of our time) and THE POOL!! Oh the pool was just amazing. I remember seeing the pictures and thinking is was just a small plunge pool but it is actually quite large and deep enough that I had to stand on tip toes to keep my head above water. The place is on solar power, so you have to be careful during the evenings and night about what appliances you use or you may have no power in the morning, but by about 0800 everything works again and there’s no issue. This place is luxury and, most importantly for us, absolutely private. We saw two people when we went for a walk on day two, and a couple more at the beach on day three. But the entire rest of the time we saw absolutely no one and the house itself is like your own little private oasis. We very much felt like we were in our own little world and were just able to spend time together without any distractions from the outside world. The location - Though the water was fairly poor visibility at the time (which I’m told is very unusual) my husband and I did do some snorkelling and the water was the absolute perfect temperature. Not once during our trip did I feel hot or cold, it was as close to perfect as I have ever experienced temperature wise. While we were there the area got a fair amount of rain which, given we were on our honeymoon and just wanted to relax, didn’t bother us (though we did get caught in a major downpour while we kayaked around the island but, again, the rain was warm and it just added to the experience). We saw a total of four turtles during our stay without actually going out and looking which was just awesome, and we could see fish swimming around below as we stood on the deck. The service - I mentioned the caretakers earlier and I will mention them again because they were just so lovely to talk to leading up to our trip. They answered any questions we had and put us in contact with the boat charter company we would go over with. At the end of the stay They arrived half an hour before the boat to help us with any rubbish we had and they just took care of everything. We actually arrived on Boxing Day so the shops at mission beach were closed. I hadn’t even thought of that but our wonderful hosts and Bec from mission beach charters were all over it and I simply did a Woolworths click and collect order and it was collected and transported over and even put in the fridge/ freezer without us having to worry about anything. They even sourced fresh seafood for us from a local supplier according to our tastes. The one hiccup we did have with the booking was an error with the dates booked. The invoice accidentally ended up for five nights instead of four however when we realised there had been a mistake during our stay we contacted the host and were really quickly able to sort it out. They were kind enough to give us a refund for the night that we had unintentionally paid for and, for a young couple starting a life together, this meant the absolute world. I would 100% recommend this place. It is incredible and if you want a private place to honeymoon in complete luxury with the best views imaginable you don’t need to go to Hawaii or Bali or anywhere else - East Bedarra island is paradise and it’s right here in Australia.

Your absolutely right that the photos don't do t it justice as its almost hard to imagine a undercover deck over the ocean and those views all the way across to Australia which actually is only 6 kms away as the crow flies The pool or should i say the natural ocean water pool with no chemicals where we watch our favourite Netflix movies on the deck TV while lying on your back and thats our fave place in the evening and yes Marg and Mike make the place even more magical with their attention to detail such beautiful people. We look forward to having you back for your 1st anniversary and we will of make sure you guys have another amazing experience Many thanks and we wish you a very happy 2020 filled with joy, health and prosperity:)
