I'm really sorry to leave such a poor review but I have to be honest. The second we arrived here we both regretted it + considered leaving + forgetting about the $55 we had paid for the night. It's hardly a backpacker's hostel, but more like a rehab/recovering alcoholics centre - forgive me for sounding rude, I'm just being honest. Lots of aged 50+, long term residents + I saw maybe 3 'backpackers'. The men I saw whilst staying here made me feel VERY uneasy - one man even tried to look up my dress as I was walking up the stairs!!!! The hostel (weirdly) came to life around 9.30pm? I was honestly scared to use the shared bathroom to clean my teeth at this time... The room was honestly like a prison cell.. stone walls, dull + pretty bare. It also really smelt like stale BO. The pillows were rock solid, + I mean really hard, not a comfortable bed at all. The only good thing was the bathroom + toilets were clean! For anyone reading this review, I honestly would pay a bit more + stay somewhere nicer!…
After reading some of the other reviews I nearly got scared off this place. After visiting I have no idea what they were talking about, maybe they changed since the negative reviews or maybe was a troll with a lot of spare time. When I went there was very fun atmosphere, other Backpackers were cool I did meant one longer term resident he was an old guy just there while house was getting built n very friendly. Excellent veiw from pool roof. Close to hub n strand. Staff were helpful. Fun Texas theme bar dwn rd. Only thing could need improvement 5$deposit for blankets was annoying.
By far the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed at and I’ve stayed at plenty. Booked over the phone no problem, checked in and paid, I couldn’t find my passport in my backpack and was told to just bring it down when I found it. Took my passport down the next day and was given a hard time and told I shouldn’t be staying because I have a Australian passport and the hostel was for international traveler’s, I’m a duel citizen so I offered to go get my Swiss passport..... unnecessary..... owners are rude, felt like you should feel privileged to stay at such a dump. It’s like a council estate with all the long term crack heads staying there(don’t leave anything laying around including open alcohol), yelling at all hours, fights and general shady people. No atmosphere besides depression....
I stayed here and it was clean and the staff is really and helpful. I booked a ferry ticket from the hostel and I went to magnetic Island during the day and it was really pretty. The hostel is very close to a lot of restaurants, bars and shops.
Good location, close to Magnetic Island ferries, Woolworths, restaurants and bars. Outdoor pool with a nice view of Castle Hill and the marina. The room, kitchen and bathrooms are quite clean. Staff is friendly and helpful, the American girl on reception is pretty entertaining, offered useful tips and played good music.
