This hotel is ripe for renovation! It’s very dated and pretty daggy BUT if you are ok with that and just want somewhere that is clean and well located in Palmer Street for a few restaurants (if you aren’t looking for luxe dining), it’s okay. Keep your expectations very measured and you’ll be fine!!! It’s a bit hilarious to think their own website uses the word ‘luxurious’. Hmmmmmm!!! We wouldn’t have chosen it in a different situation but given a flight issue we ended up choosing late notice accommodation and there was little to choose from on Christmas Eve/Day night - unsurprisingly!! The very spacious executive suite we did book was good value at Christmas time we thought though, despite the aged appearance. Nothing really matches in the room!! Parking was readily available and felt secure so that was good. We had a lost baggage/airline issue and we received good assistance from the fellow at the front desk, and always a smiling face from him generally. I’m just embarrassed not to remember his name - but certainly his welcoming nature outshone all his other colleagues over those couple of days who had a hard time even looking up the from the computer to make any eye contact!!

Had a 3 night stay. Very disappointing. Stayed with Rydges on many occasions. Asked for room to be serviced. Had to place a sign on door not really told about at check-in. Asked for room to be serviced throughout day. Told no staff available and I was on list at the 2nd or 3rd prompt at the 6pm mark. Rang again at 7pm and told sorry but no service would be done today. Asked: What was I after? I said towels needed replacing, bins needed emptying and we would like the room to be serviced. Told it wouldn't be happening today and would let housekeeping know for tomorrow. Asked whether I would need to beg for it to be serviced tomorrow. Very disappointed. Part of the reason at stay in hotels is to have rooms serviced. Felt very dismissed by staff. No follow up from reception that service wouldn't be happening. Had to ask for another roll of toilet paper. Staff not overly friendly on reception. I asked about parking was only told I could park downstairs if there was room. Didn't advise of parking at back of hotel. Beds comfy WiFi actually works.

Because of our flight’s late arrival, we chose this hotel for its 24-hour reception and good location on the Palmer St restaurant strip, a short walk from the town centre. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Underground parking is free but not secured. The buffet breakfast was delicious. Our room was spacious, with efficient air con, comfortable beds, two good chairs, hospitality tray and frig, no minibar and no ice cube tray. The two bottles of water delivered each day were very welcome. The bathroom, with walk-in shower, worked well but was a tad shabby. The bedroom lighting was excessively 1980s dim. We needed a torch to see the aircon control panel. We would return and recommend, but bring a torch.

Staff was so friendly and helpful. Overall very clean. This is a no frills hotel. Rooms basic. Walking distance to several great restaurants and to Woolworths. Had a great stay! The breakfast buffet was amazing. There is a convenience next door which was great. The conference center next door was great as well.

We had two seperate visits to this ideally located accommodation on the southern side of the Townsville CBD. Both two night stays were booked about 3 months prior during Rydges 'Flash Sales' promotions through PGR. Both stays were the similarly priced, yet our accommodation experience was poles apart. The hotel has excellent parking above and below with access by lift to the foyer and floors above. Both our rooms appeared to be recently renovated and were very comfortable with excellent bedding and normal room inclusions plus smart TV's and wifi. Our first 2 night stay was in a room overlooking the pool below and was quiet, meet all our needs and we considered was a 5/5. Our 2nd stay of 2 nights, reception staff told me, 'we gave you views over the city', Well the 2nd floor overlooked the brewery and car park across the road and yes I suppose some of the CBD. No problems so far, as the room was similar to our 1st stay. Come evening and the room had no sound proofed windows and what occurred outside of our Friday & Saturday night stay, certainly was heard in the room, though not to the same extent as being on the street and all the rooms facing the street must have similar issues. Being located near the lift we heard late on the 1st night, excited noisey children leaving the lift, late night/early morning returning guests, who appeared to use seating near the lift, whilst discussing world events and letting doors to rooms bang closed. The 2nd night we listened to a late night meaningful family discussion, with other guests again using the seating to talk, before moving off to their individual rooms and the doors banged closed in the early hours of the morning. One night, I can put up with the noise, but not for two nights. With upgrades done to rooms, they should have included the shower taps in our room having the 'H' and 'C', so children and adults are not left with the guessing game of which is the hot water. I suppose the desk and chair look nice in the room, but the chair is high and the desk is low and I could not face the desk to use it, but sit sideways. We thought the breakfast and evening meals were excellent, whilst there is plenty available outside to give variety for breakfast and evening meals. As an Event shareholder, I suppose the 'algorithms' can be used for the variation in accommodation and someone has to have a room facing the street and averaged my rating for our 4 nights. So much for being a PGR & Discovery Black member for the past 5yrs, it appears to mean nought.

We chose this hotel to stay overnight when attending the Elton John concert and were not disappointed. Our room was a double double to accommodate three adults, one of whom is in a wheel chair. Special thanks to Emerald who went above and beyond to ensure we could manage in this room as there are no acessible rooms at this hotel. The room was very comfortable and spacious enough for a wheel chair. It provided a view over the marina which was most appreciated and proved a point of interested. The bathroom is where it's apparent this is a mature hotel. It is small but adequate, just required a small wheel chair and experience to manage that part. Breakfast was enjoyable and provided sufficient choices for the standard breakfast buffet. We chose to eat at the end of the breakfast time knowing there were a large number of check outs. There was still plenty of food despite an extra busy morning. Staff were very attentive and friendly with regular pick ups of used plates, checking that we had everything we needed and were satisfied. We were not rushed and encouraged to take our time and enjoy the meal. We were very happy with our stay and can recommend this hotel, particularly if you are in Townsville for any events at the new stadium. It is an easy walk and council have constructed a new wide, well lit pathway plus a creek side boardwalk directly from Palmer street to the stadium.

We usually stay at Rydges when in Townsville to watch the Cowboys play so when our daughter was advised to attend the Townsville hospital for a scan we decided to stay there again. As usual the room was clean and the beds comfortable. Also liked the fact that the fridge wasn’t full of drinks that leave no room for water bottles or the lactose free milk that I drink and for medication that needs to be kept cold. We had room service dinner that night but apart from the lovely bruschetta, the meal was ordinary. Frozen battered fish and chips and limp salad. We were looking forward to an ,included in the room price, breakfast as the Buffett breakfast we enjoyed in the past was well worth the money but unfortunately it just wasn’t as expected. Had to ask for toast and hash browns that were ordered on the menu but didn’t make it to our room. Also had to ask 3 times for a bottle of water that was my choice of a ‘welcome drink’ as quoted if you joined the club. I realise that covid19 has meant changes have had to be made and am hopeful things will get back to normal soon. Did not like being kept waiting at reception for 15 minutes when checking out in the morning. When we arrived on Friday night there was no one on reception but there was a phone with a sign to say call if you needed someone which I did and the young lady answered immediately and was at the desk within five minutes but on checking out at around 9.15 am there was no one in sight although we could hear voices in the office but had no way of attracting their attention. When the lady finally did come out she wasn’t able to get the computer to log on to process our payment because I was using an eftpos debit card and not a credit card. We have had this problem several times in the past and I think this should have been fixed by now. I am hopeful things will improve as we get back to normal when the pandemic is over as we really enjoyed staying at Rydges in the past.

Can’t complain about the location but when you book one of the few Executive Suites, where the description says “Appointed with High Quality Modern Fixtures and Fabrics” then one expects a little more than chipped paint, a cheap chipped coffee table, bathroom cabinet doors needing work, stained carpets, every door entry including elevators almost destroyed... Sure it’s COVID time, but this hotel has past its use by date! Staff great, albeit bed not made, bath not cleaned, and toilet paper not replenished after first night. Done second night after mentioning at reception but shouldn’t have to! In short... Definitely NOT a premium hotel, no matter the price!

Staff were very friendly and hotel is in a great location. These aspects will put me off booking here again though: 1. Air con was not functioning properly and it was very hot and humid 2. Shower pressure was terrible 3. I asked for an early morning wake up call which I did not receive 4. Only available breakfast is the $27 buffet plus $5 coffee
