This BIG 4 is a great place to stay. The amenities are clean, BBQ and pool are clean and the staff are friendly. There is a variety of accommodation available from tenting to cabin. The van sites are level, have cement slabs and you can easily park your van and car on the one site unless your van is a 5th wheeler or something huge like that. Overall we give our stay at BIG 4 Rowes Bay at 5 stars out of 5.

A friend and I camped here over night in our campervan, it was one of the more expensive Holiday Parks we'd paid for on our trip but figured that came with the BIG4 name and locality to the coast.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the amenities were a little dated but were clean and comfortable.

The downfall for us the site, said to be a "grassy powered site", it was dirt with accompanying bindis and completely without shade, I'm aware this can't be helped when it's dry season but for the $50 price tag it was a little disappointing. Also the parking bays themselves and roads are very tight to get around, so may be a little difficult for bigger vans.

Nonetheless, the holiday park itself was pleasant and in a very nice location within walking distance to the main Esplanade of Townsville.

We checked in at the office the friendly lady gave us our site and info as
we prebooked in Feb
having stayed here many times. the park as usual was looking clean and gardens very tidy.

The new camp kitchen was almost finished but not open
when we stayed on our way north in May
what a surprise, the outer deck had 4 BBQ,s and outdoor settings,
inside more settings, a large Tv and lounges
big oven, fridge, and large Prep area, large airy windows,
its more of a bistro setting than a camp kitchen
with many beautiful Rhapis Palms along the entrance.

The park has many trees, golden canes, Palms, and shrubs and lots of shade
many sites have slabs, the 3 amenities blocks are clean Laundry's in all.
there is a wide choice of cabins /units some with ocean and Maggie views

The Cairns Bird Wing butterflies flew threw our site nearly every day,
last time here in May our site had 4 Curlews under the palms, shrubs,
this time only 1 appeared the female was nesting 2doors down.

The front sites most have ocean and Magnetic Island views across from the Park which has Cycle/ walking paths that lead into the strand,
or Parendella conservation Park
a longish cycle but with beautiful views over the Bay and "Maggie" (local speak).

The local shops are an easy short walk away, and main shopping centers close by
also a great place is Ingham road seafoods.
we have never been let down shopping here.

The Casino, and the Townie Yacht club are great places to have a nice meals in very pleasant water views surroundings

The staff are friendly and helpful specially Nikki who looked after us in May on the way up to FNQ and in Aug on the way back down,
Thanks also to Steve the friendly Manager.
and the gardeners Gavin & Ricky, and the cleaners who all make this a great Park to stay in.

Always happy to stay at Rowes Bay Holiday Park. Large sites with lots of shady trees. Facilities are always clean with plenty of showers & toilets. Laundry facilities are also good. Location across the road from the water is good and there are great walks nearby along the new boardwalk with access to the Jezzine Barracks Park.

We’re very sorry to read about your experience, Kerri. We apologise for the mix-up with the accommodation types that allow pets. They only apply to our caravan and camping sites which can be confusing as the full terms and conditions were not listed clearly on our third party sites. We do hope that we can welcome you back in the future with your dog on one of our pet friendly sites.

We thought this park would be a nice place to stay being opposite the Bay, & saw they had some Villas right at the front of the park. We asked for one of those particular Villas & we were told they were booked out. She offered us a cabin and would upgrade us to ocean view. It cost us $ 151.00. Well what a rip off! It was nothing more than a fitted out sea container. You could hardly move around the bed, the bathroom was so tiny and so was the TV. Nothing special at all & definitely not work what we paid. Well we noticed overnight & in the morning that none of the nice Villas we wanted & were prepared to pay for were occupied, they were all vacant on our side of the park! We were not happy & could not understand why they told us they were full. I wanted to do some washing , well 2 laundries only had 2 washing machines & 1 dryer in them & the other one had 1 that was our of order. Everyone was waiting to use them & you had to clean them yourself. We were so disappointed about everything at this park & will not be back, nor will we recommend it to anyone.

Hi Michelle, we are deeply saddened to receive your review but appreciate the opportunity to respond. We are very sorry to see that you did not find our Ocean View Villas to your liking or found the park to be good value on this occasion. Please know that the other villas were already booked so we could unfortunately not move you to them. We have recently replaced our washers and dryers in our three laundries and with our park being full at peak times, there are sometimes wait times. Unfortunately, things do break down from time to time but we work hard get them fixed as soon as parts are available. Thanks again for your feedback and we wish you happy travels in the future.

Rowes Bay is a very well run Holiday Park. The front counter staff were very friendly, flexible and accommodating who went out of their way to help us to find the best Motorhome position for us in the park. Amenities were clean and close to our site. The No#8 position was close to the beach where there were Electric Scooters for hire to take you into the CBD.

We have been coming to Rowes Bay C/P for over 10 years, but since Nicci has taken over management, the park has improved 100%.
Not only organized a fabulous barbecue night, with a great singer/guitarist and had all of us up dancing and having the best night, Nicci goes out of her way to meet everyone’s needs, when at all possible. All the office staff are wonderful.

Our kids enjoyed the pool at Rowe’s Bay Holiday Park and we really enjoyed the park’s proximity to The Strand, the city, Palmer St and the new NQ Stadium. Facilities are adequate with spacious showers and great water pressure. It was very hot during our January visit which meant sand flies (midges) and other biting insects were present. Be sure to bring plenty of insect repellent.

We have stayed here repeatedly because of its location near the heart of town.

Thank you MissMapleLeaf for your informative review. We do have midgies in the area and whilst we do quarterly mosquito misting treatment, the last being in December, it's hard to keep on top of them. We do recommend you bring a good insect repellent with you or you can buy from our reception kiosk. We are positioned perfectly for easy access to, as you mentioned, The Strand and island adventures, whilst also not being on top of Townsville. We're really happy you have enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Top price bottom quality. The ammenities are really tired. The dump point was blocked As were the toilet bowl drains.
It’s ok to be older but they have to be maintained
Nice to have an elavated slab though but big 4 you sort of expect a level of quality that was not availiable at this site.

Would like price for 3 nights for one in budget cabin
Answer from NextGenHP_Manager
Russell, New Zealand7 contributions2 helpful votes
Hello Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to have the opportunity to discuss the matter with you. The thefts referred to have been part of an area wide spate of opportunistic thefts. Fortunately the Police have recently taken a more proactive approach and have made numerous arrests of juvenile offenders. We are happy to report that our community now has a much reduced incidence of theft. I will forward to you recent newspaper articles on the matter if you wish. At Rowes Bay Caravan Park we do take our guest security seriously. Our security measures include boom gates to restrict unauthorised vehicle access to the park, we have a network of wireless cameras around the park as well as multiple nightly patrols by a security company. We certainly encourage our guests to take sensible precautions with their valuables as they should in any location. Re the liability, I am confident that our insurers would be happy with the measures that we take to ensure the safety of our guests and their valuables. I hope that this helps to alleviate your concerns and that you do choose to stay at our park in the future. Regards Barry Toohey
