The foyer looks great don't be fooled the rooms are dated, old and need a whole lot of maintenance. We booked a ocean view king suite and while the view was wonderful and the room clean it needed a whole lot of maintenance. Toilet only had one button working on duel flush system. Furniture dated, film on bathroom window peeling, everything 1990's brown. You have to walk up 6 stairs to access foyer from carpark and no you can't access the lifts to rooms from the carpark wich is a shared public carpark and not secure. Room was clean and the staff were doing a great job despite having a fully booked hotel and being short staffed. The building is in need of repair and rooms are noisy as can hear all the street and corridor noise so we won't be rebooking this place again there are better options for the price in this location.

The best part about this stay was Sandy at reception. She was lovely, helpful and thoughtful with our kids. We were originally booked at Voco, but had to be transferred to this hotel as Voco had become a hotel quarantine facility. The main things we were looking forward to was breakfast and a pool for the kids. We were told upon arrival that breakfast had been cancelled but we could walk 10-15 minutes to the other mantra for breakfast which we did (or have a refund). Breakfast was average. We are Accor members and have stayed at lots of hotels. It was buffet breakfast. Pool was more like a spa. Not for swimming. There were no doona covers on the bed, just a sheet and shower was crap. Not powerful at all. Bathroom paint was chipping off the bottom of the bath. Twice we were only given 2 towels for 4 people. Never provided any beach towels. We were told being Accor members we could have midday check out, this was made known to us when checking in on the first day. On our last day before breakfast, we clarified this and were told no by another reception staff member. I explained what we had been told and they seemed to ‘compromise’ and allow us to stay until 11am. However we were then frequently harassed by reception and the cleaning staff at 1015 1020am to check out. Apparently it had not been written into the system. Phone calls and banging on the door occurred until we checked out. It’s interesting that we had to chase for towels and our bins to be emptied once they had taken our money, but when it came to check out they wanted us out asap. No one was enforcing wearing masks. Seems like a lot of schoolies use this facility. Phone was disconnected so couldn’t call reception. Had to go down and see them directly. I understand covid staff shortages, but in 4 nights our room was cleaned once. Car park is not pram/ little kid friendly. Lots of flights of stairs/ no lift to the basement car park we were allocated. You also need more hand sanitizer on every floor when getting off the lift. Disappointing stay. Would not stay here again. Thanks to Sandy. You were the best thing about our stay.

The location is very good, but the rooms overlooking the bar/pool next-door are very noisy (until midnight!). The gym & pool are sub-standard & well below what is expected in a hotel of this type. Some staff were excellent - helpful & polite - but others were less responsive.

We arrived at the Mantra at approximately 9.30pm after a flight from Melbourne to the Gold Coast to which Milly was her happy and content usual self. It was around 10:24pm that I video called my partner, Milly’s Father, Kyle Osborne, who was still in Melbourne at the time to show him what we had just wrangled out of Milly’s mouth – an LR44 button battery. It took us well over a minute and two sets of hands to eventually pry open her mouth to get it out. At the time we had no idea what was quickly shoveled into her mouth, it was only due to me seeing in the corner of my eye that I had noticed something went in there. Milly is at the stage where everything goes into her mouth, so I am always on the watch to get fluff and crumbs out of her mouth, but not once did we expect it to be BATTERY that was found just under the bed, within hands reach of our little one. You can only imagine the shock and instant relief that we had caught it, the thought of what could have happened is part of anyone’s worst nightmare. It had taken about an hour to get her off to sleep on this evening, finally getting to sleep around 1130pm. (I would just like to mention that Milly is a very co-operative little girl, we have never had issues with getting her to sleep and she has always been very placid and very content no matter her surroundings (adjusted VERY well to our relocation from QLD to VIC in April of 2021 with zero hassles)). After about an hour of restlessness I had finally gotten her to calm. After 45mins of sleep, for herself and myself, she woke up screaming her lungs out, something just did not seem right. She screamed and clenched over for a good 30mins; it was at this point we wondered if there was another battery? Did she manage to consume something without us noticing, if there was 1, could there have been another? The cries that were coming from Milly were something I had never heard from her; it was the cry of sheer pain – something was wrong. She was refusing her milk bottle (which is very, VERY uncommon – she LOVES her milk) Refused dummy, cuddles didn’t help, didn’t want a drink of water, anything to do with her mouth just caused even more distress. We had done some research associated with batteries in children’s mouth, besides death being something that can occur after batteries enter children’s mouth, to our discovery just the battery touching saliva can cause chemical reactions, causing irritations and discomfort… this then prompted the 000 call at 1am. Due to the nature of the circumstances, the paramedics took the entire situation very seriously. Even though the outcome was what would be considered “best case” and after an immediate x-ray to confirm there was no additional battery anywhere, Milly was in a lot of distress from the entire ordeal and as was I. Having had lost a child in the past and multiple miscarriages the thought of our rainbow baby, Milly losing her life due to something that should not have even been a situation in the first place, was beyond frightening. Imagine if we didn’t get it out of her mouth? What would have happened then? What happened if another family came through and didn’t notice the battery being put into their child’s mouth? Death. Death is the answer to both of those outcomes. Farewell to the life of an innocent child because somehow vacuuming efficiently 2inches under a bed is such a hard thing to do. While I understand mistakes can happen, crumbs/hair/fluff can be missed, we’re currently living amongst a global pandemic, you would assume that COVID-19 would have been enough to have spotless rooms. I have personally been a cleaner at a motel and ALL beds were moved side to side when vacuuming to ensure cleanliness of the rooms, to avoid situations such as these. In previous discussion with Patricia Osborne, you have stated Milly has not been “harmed” so there is no need for compensation above the 1 night of accommodation refunded, harm doesn’t just come in a physical form, there are many types of harm. We arrived at your hotel under the impression we are starting our holiday on a relaxing note but instead I/we endured 30mins of sleep and spent the entire night in the Emergency Department, the fear alone was enough to cause phycological harm to oneself, constant thought of is my daughter going to be okay, is she going to happy and healthy for Christmas this year? This whole situation has caused more mental turmoil than one can put into words, the fear of losing her is even more prominent than it was before due to our past. Besides the emotional harm that I had to endure, Milly faced the distressed, dragged around a hospital until 430am, her mouth stretched open and hands prying in. We can see that Milly hasn’t been herself since this night, having had probably the worst 2 weeks to follow. We appreciate you taking this matter as seriously as we have, but despite that we do feel that just the offered 1 nights’ accommodation isn’t anywhere near the level of compensation this incident deserves. The negligence that created this situation vary easily could have ended in death.
