Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We drove through the grand entrance where we found a run down resort with poor service and food.

Upon booking over the phone, we were advised our rooms would have ocean views and breakfast included.

One of the rooms had an ocean view (3rd floor) however the other didn't (second floor). Though we paid the ocean view rate for both, there was no apology, refund or credit offered when we questioned the 'ocean view' room. We asked for a room change to an actual ocean view room (as that's what we paid for) and the staff advised there was none available. Though, the resort seemed very empty.

Breakfast was not included, the staff eventually apologised and confirmed 'the resort has never included breakfast and you must have spoken with our new staff who have made a mistake". After suggesting their staff need to be educated as they're informing people incorrect information over the phone, we got an apology.

The resort features very outdated flooring and mismatched furniture. Our bathroom stunk of bleech however the room was clean and with a good layout.

The overpriced restaurant served bad bistro like food where we ate as the resort is not in walking distance to anything else. The happy hour cocktails included orange and cranberry juice with a pinch of alcohol, although the beers were $5 which my husband said was good.

The air conditioning in the room is programed to about 18°C with no way of us being able to change it. This made our stay very uncomfortable with our 2 month old baby.

Ive just had friends ask if it was worth staying at the Opal Cove and unfortunately I advised to go elsewhere. We won't be back and won't be recommending.

On our road trip to Brisbane we stayed overnight at this resort, the last time we stayed here was 28 years ago. 28 years on and this place needs some serious tender loving care. Air conditioning in the foyer, restaurant and other common areas not working correctly. Our room 115 , as I reported to the desk , had a non compliant hinge fitted to the fire rated entry door of the room that obstructed the doors closure without assistance.
Also it’s fire rating.
Bathroom sink had no drainage grate fitted to waste line, ( watch your jewellery or small items dropping into drain), bathroom tiles old and yukky.
Externally most of the pool furniture collapsed when sat upon .The foyer fountain needs a proper cleaning out, it was green with algae .This venue advertises as a resort and you pay a price for a resort room as well,I rate it around a 3 star motel.
I do hope someone there takes note of my words ,perhaps even do a room by room inspection and grounds create a list and bring it back to its glory days.

The buildings (interior and exterior) and surrounding grounds, car park, driveway etc are getting tired and need a makeover. The rooms, conference area and restaurant were mostly clean and tidy but the furniture and fittings are showing their age. 20 years ago it would have been right up there with some of the best.

Stayed in Deluxe Room. Some dodgy maintenance on bathroom and room fixtures, chipped paint on furniture, electric light switches and TV that didn’t work, and a queen bed on coasters that slides around the room when you sit on it. Great for housekeeping but scary for guests. And my bed was short sheeted, they used a single mattress cover on a queen mattress and the bottom sheet was 15cm short of the foot end of the bed. Dirty exhaust fans in bathroom.

Coastal resorts will always have rust and salt issues but the sliding glass doors and windows opening on to easterly facing patio deck and Pacific Ocean (stunning views of whales and sunrises!) from my 3rd floor room were spoiled by dirty and smeared glass.

Staff at OCR are mostly great especially the mature staff who clearly have been there a while and appreciate local employment. One younger waitstaffer (reception were great!) was pretty ordinary, sloppy in her dress and how she went about her work, half wiping down tables, missing spilt drinks on glass Tabletops on the sun deck from the night before. Only takes a few like that to make a difference to the culture.

The mini golf course was overgrown, desperately in need of attention especially the wonderful FJ HOLDEN rusting away in the salt air. It needs a new home under cover with someone who can lovingly do it up.

Food was good but bar and restaurant prices are expensive for what you get.

Kids area seemed well equipped with slot games, table games that worked. Water feature in foyer showed staining and lime deposits on pebbles etc (they need a water chemist to advise them.)

If you have a fear of lifts, forget it. Not allowed to use stair well for access to rooms. Maybe a security issue but they wouldn’t budge on this.

Plus side? Great location, close to beach, bushland, pool was good. Staff mostly great. 3 stars at best.

Recently 4 of us travelled to Coffs Harbour to see Elton John on 26 Feb 2020 - and we booked this 4 bedroom villa 4 months out. Luckily we did as the entire city was booked out for his 2 shows. This 4 bedroom villa is spread over 3 floors - carpark/entry on bottom floor, followed by 2 bedrooms on 2nd floor and remaining 2 rooms on top floor with balcony/kitchen/dining area. Lots of space - comfortable beds and all the facilities you'd need for one night or a week. Very clean and modern... will stay again. Breakfast was only $21 (a concert special) and lots to choose form.. so well worth the stay.

The last review was the misleading wording of the room type ie Beachside but there isn’t a view of the beach . To continue : the pools were closed for a majority of the two days that we were there even though they were fully booked with the Elton John concerts in Coffs Harbour . The WIFI was down for part of our two two days and the rest of the time it was a poor signal . Overall it was a memorable trip but for the wrong reasons . The saving grace was Drew , the restaurant manager . He couldn’t do enough for you . It’s a pity that the building didn’t reflect the positivity that Drew did . Very poor

Got a terrific deal on bookings. Com but regretted making the booking.
Passing through as a half way stop over and read the reviews which were great as well as the photos - NOT TRUE - this hotel is very run down and to top it all there was a conference on which meant the restaurant was closed as well as the bar. Other than drive into town for something to eat we chose room service. We ordered wedges which were very nice.
The location is very good and the ocean view was lovely but that’s it. Plus when we arrived they took $100 off my card and it’s been a week and I haven’t received a refund. I would definitely not stay here again.

We tried to check in but we were turned away saying we need to have a negative test. We are both fully vaccinated from regional NSW. No where on the website or booking.com it states this. I think it was due to the fact we are young. So disappointed for our first time away. The manager was so rude to us.

staff were great. clean room overlooking a car park (with 5 rooms occupied!) an upgrade would have been welcome. No room service but same price to 'grab n go'. No breakfast and no lunch vs website. overcharged and told to wait 7 days for a refund! no thanks. never again.

Great place to stop on the way to Qld plenty for the kids plus the adults with a good restaurant and bar. Great place on the beach front and close to Coffs city. 2 minutes to the big banana with plenty to do.

Old hotel and very rough around the edges... lots of maintenance required to keep the rooms in good shape - but for the price point, it wasn’t too bad.
Would I stay again - No... pay the extra $50 and get somewhere nicer
