Looking for an alternative place to stay in Rockhampton, then look no further than the Denison Boutique Hotel, which was once home to Queensland Railway offices. The building itself is classic old Queensland but the rooms are lavishly presented with a chandelier hanging from the approx. 6 metre ceiling, a solid timber four-poster bed, a modern spa bath (&shower), 2.5 seater lounge and armchair, desk and chair, timber wardrobe and mandatory TV on the wall (& CD player). Plus enjoy a continental breakfast in the dining room ( gluten-free options available) for free - ie brekky is included in the modest tariff. A very helpful staff member at reception helps with the breakfast. The only downside is the occasional noise from the nearby railway track.

Historic railroads building repurposed into a lovely historic hotel. Room was huge, very clean, comfortable king bed, spa bath, big lounge, well stocked minibar. Nice touches like bathrobes and hotel slippers, and foam ear plugs for sleepers who might get disturbed by noise from freight trains passing by
First up we had a car park facing room and it was very quiet. We only had one freight train go by (that were we aware of as we were still awake when it went by). If more went by during the night we didn’t notice and I’m a very light sleeper but didn’t need the ear plugs. So ask for a quiet room and use the earplugs if you think it will be a problem
The room is really quite luxurious and incredibly good value. My only query is where is the hair dryer? Maybe there was one but we searched everywhere and couldn’t find one.
The dining room looked very classy but we were keen to see the river so opted for breakfast out.

Thank you very much for your lovely feedback. We are overjoyed you enjoyed your stay with us and liked the property. The hairdryer is in the drawer that is located inside the cupboard. We tucked it away so as not to take from the old world charm, I wanted to tuck away the TV and fridge as well, just could not find a way and a hotel mini bar is my guilty pleasure. Thank you for your fantastic rating, we look forward to welcoming you back

An old railway training building re equipped as a hotel. Rooms are old fashioned four poster beds etc. Victorian furniture for character!. The spa bath in the room was unusual but separate toilet made it workable. Breakfast at $10 was a bargain.

After reading the reviews and description we were looking forward to our romantic getaway. Upon arrival the receptionist was brisk and dismissive. “Room no 4 around the corner”. I had to ask about parking. When I went back with other questions the reception was closed 5pm!
Please note this hotel is on the train line. Not too busy but there are trains!
The building was as described but upon a closer look was tired and needed repairs and some tender loving care. The same could be said for the room: door lock/handle nearly falling off, very bad reception for the tv even though we were in the town Centre (could not watch it), no drinking glasses, wine glasses did not match, bed very soft and if you wish to cuddle then you are rolled together in a big dip in the middle of the bed. Also there was a drip just outside that was not conducive to good sleep. A boutique hotel needs to have an eye for detail and it seems that nobody cares for this building. The garden area was neat and tidy.
The beautiful old pub across the road is closed so had to go in the car to find somewhere for a beer and food. Not walking distance, we asked a local.
Breakfast was such a disappointment after reading the reviews. Please a decent coffee would have been nice. Cheap instant does not cut it for a boutique hotel. Lots of sliced bread and pastries all wrapped in plastic. Whole fruit and sweet yoghurt. Basic muesli. Nothing hot apart from using the toaster. As a lover of good food this was a very bad experience and really prompted my review. Certainly not a boutique experience.

This boutique hotel offers a truly memorable and luxurious "old world " experience at a very reasonable and competitive price. The rooms are large, spotless and beautifully decorated with quality furniture and furnishings from a "by gone" era, and have a spa bath. The Continental Breakfast provided is one of the best ever, offering a wide variety of food and beverages in spacious and beautiful surroundings. The staff are also amazing, friendly and eager to please and assist.
I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Rockhampton.

This colonial styled hotel is a delight to visit. The furnishings, the extremely high ceilings, the big 4 poster, very comfy bed, the spacious rooms and the spa bath made for a beautiful atmosphere. Unfortunately our spa had been fixed during the day and despite the best efforts of onsite staff the air lock couldn’t be sorted but it was neither here nor there to us. The Manager wanted to give us another room and was really concerned about the lack of facility. The offer was genuinely appreciated but not necessary.
We were disturbed once through the night by a passing goods train but the thick walls toned down the noise and we decided it was a small price to pay for the experience of being here. All in all - a great time was had by all.

We stayed one night and the room was decked out in old world furniture. Bed was a four poster and very comfortable. One word of caution it is a 10 minute walk into town and there is not a lot in the immediate vicinity. We walked into town to check out a few pubs and eating options. Caught an Uber back for less than $10. Breakfast is included - cereal toast yoghurt fresh fruit tea and coffee. Good value for money in a setting of days gone by.

Charming period Hotel in Rockhampton that is well worthy staying in. Check In was swift and with a smile. Everything is clearly explained. The rooms are very large and very well appointed. I doubt you will find a property in Rockhampton with such high and period style decor. 4 Poster beds are absolutely the bees knees for comfort, crisp cotton sheets and the rooms smell clean and fresh. Nice quality towels and a good shower with lots of hot water. Theres a great mini bar/snacks and the pricing is most reasonable. Theres a buffet continental bfast on for $10. Will definately stay here again

A short walk from the city centre, this 1885 old railway administration building, recently converted to a hotel, is an opportunity to experience heritage grandeur. The rooms all have 16ft ceilings, four poster beds and specially designed and fitted furniture. A spa bath in each room completes the luxury. Staff are friendly and helpful and there is plenty of parking. It is close to the railway line which might be a detractor if you are a light sleeper. We found it a source of interest.

The building is historic, and it has a focus on the 1880s feel with the furniture, it could have been great - if it was clean and fit for purpose as accommodation!
It's 4.8m high walls were covered with dust, the skirting boards hadn't been cleaned, there was dirt and dust behind and on top of the furniture and under the bed, and mould on the windows. All of which is bad for your health and dangerous, particularly you're asthmatic or prone to hayfever.
When you close the door you can still hear noise and feel the breeze from the outside. The hotel sits right on the train line, and I was repeatedly woken up by the coal freight trains through the night.
I considered speaking with the staff, but after walking around the building it was evident these issues would be in all the rooms as I sighted mould on all the windows. So I contacted the company I work for and had alternate arrangements made.
They have tried to leverage the buildings older looks but as a hotel it just isn't up to standard, and I travel a lot for work and see all sorts of accommodation. I genuinely take no pleasure in broadcasting my experience but hopefully it serves as a warning to anyone considering staying here.

Thank you very much for taking your time to leave us your feedback. Let me start by apologising and how horrified we are with the experience you had. Please rest assured that this is absolutely not the standards that we adhered to. Unfortunately we have recently lost some of our key staff members and this is the handy work of the new staff member that have now been let go. We have also let go the new house keeping manager, as she was not adhering to our standards of cleanliness. All the rooms are now undergoing yet another round of deep cleaning to insure our high quality of cleanliness. Again we sincerely apologise for our oversight and we hope we get another chance to welcome you back and make it up to you.
